the greatest of luck in all your endeavors!

I hadn't read the landmark until now, but I have to admit that I am also interested.

Unfortunately, the BaBar detector has been having vacuum problems lately, and we haven't been able to run at the high luminosity we were getting before the October shutdown. The problem has been traced (or so the accelerator people hope) to a particular module, which unfortunately is in the worst possible spot for repairs - there's a huge amount of cables and other modules in the way. If this turns out not to be the problem, heads will roll.

For myself, I have been looking at my background - using some really brutal cuts, with a very low signal efficiency, to see what my most signal-like background comes from. It turns out that you can, as we had hoped, classify it into relatively few types; it remains to be seen whether each of those kinds can be dealt with, without unacceptably degrading my signal efficiency. We'll be making the decision within two months or so, either to give up on this analysis and do something else, or to forge on with making a likelihood selector. (I passed my oral exam last week, and it was a presentation on just this topic, so I tend to ramble on a bit about it.)
