This is topic wait a second I think I found another little continuality error in Ender's Game. in forum Discussions About Orson Scott Card at Hatrack River Forum.
In Ender's Game when Dink and Ender are talking about its the teachers not the other armies that are the enemies and that the Hegemony is lying about there still being a bugger war on.
Ender somewhat shrugs this off with the naive little tinbit about how in America people don't lie and that the nedarlands which have been under the domination of the Warsaw Pact for generations....
Wasn't the neatherlands international territory?

OMG (couldn't break the string) just because somone has dominated you doesn't mean you are officially part of the country. The USA is now dominating Iraq and Afghanistan, yet they are not part of us. The USSR dominated countries without taking them inot the USSR. It just means that they are under domination, not that they are a part of

rofl, hey I'm just essentially thinking out loud here I wasn;t saying *aaaah! the best series of books Ive ever read is now TOTALLY RUINED by a single inconsistency!* I was simply noticing and commenting on somehting I noticed .
But no the netherlands in the shadow books were established as being directly under the control of the Hegemony not the Second Warsaw Pact thus made international territory. Ender's Game made it seem like the Warsaw pact was bordering france when it appears in Shadow series to be more or less the same countries it was 20 years ago plus a few others like Greece.
And why is everyone saying OMG? Everyone points out coninuality errors in fact i think its a tradition.

that is plausible and was the first thing I thought of afterwards but I didnt want to mention it since it would've killed the reason for starting the thread.
for example ender is what? 7? 8? how many 8 year olds know current events and near recent history that well? Maybe he heard his dad rave about how the Hegemoney is a bunch of pawns to the Russians and maybe it got molded into his mind that that is how it was. *also established in EG how Paul Wiggin supported Demonthenes views*

But Ender did not reach Dink's conclusions. The buggers were real. The threat was real. The I.F. controlled a lot of things, but it didn't control the videos and the nets. Not where Ender had grown up. In Dink's home in the Netherlands, with three generations under Russian hegemony, perhaps it was all controlled, but Ender knew that lies could not last long in America. So he believed. (EG, page 111)
Is Russian hegemony the same as the Warsaw Pact? To be honest, I never really understood a number of the political references in the book; I didn't even realize that Locke, Demosthenes, and the other names mentioned were real people until I had read EG several times.

I think it's reading too much into a small detail. I felt like Dink was half believing/half doubting his own words. It's tricky.

Well, considering that the Warsaw Pact was in real life puppets to the Soviet Union I geuss it is a fair assertion to make the logical jump that the Second Warsaw Pact is sort've the same thing.

Lets not be apologists, ala Star Trek fans who continually revise their vision of ST based on the silliness and script errors of later time travel episodes.
Its possible OSC just forgot about this and it slipped through the cracks.
Jay, this is an author who named two main character in one series (Han Tzu) the same name and never noticed the connection. He has admitted that he did this accidentally.

Yeah i was a little confused on that regard, Hot soup reminded me of a title of a story OSC wrote, and i couldnt think of what book Han Fei Tzu was in, she appeared in Xenocide correct?

What’s your point? OSC is a dang good story teller. His character development is among the best out there. Sure you can nit pick and find stupid things that don’t matter. People have the same names in real life all the time. Real people misspeak all the time. If you don’t have anything else better to do with your time then try to tear someone down you live a sad life and I don’t feel very sorry for you since you bring it on yourself. I really don’t understand the logic here on this board of being disrespectful to OSC. He has brought so many stories and entertainment into my life that I don’t know how to thank him. It’s certainly not standing by though while other so called fans try and belittle him. If you have something constructive for OSC I’m sure he’d love to hear from you. But pointless junk made to try and make him look bad is really sick. I’d rather be on the ban wagon of how kindness and thanking Scott for everything he’s done to make my life happier. For being a friend to us on this board and through his writing. Thank you Scott! I love what you do and hope you never stop enjoying it.

what are you dim? I'm not doing anything more/less then dozens of other people in the boards, there have been what 30 or so threads based on one continuality error or another? I mention it for the sake of mentioning it, it should've been apparent I didnt mean to disrespect mr card, I have what? all of his ender/shadow books plus the random enderverse novel.

Hello? I was responding to your saying that his genius has no end, and that maybe this mistake was really a subtle play on his part...
You pretty much just admitted that you were wrong, so why attack me for pointing this out? My remembering a mistake that OSC pointed out himself, which I didn't even notice reading the book, doesn't say anything about me. I just noticed another continuity error, right here on Hatrack! In the beginning of this thread, everybody said OMG. But then . . . it stopped! What does this mean? Could there be some hidden reason? I mean, the writers on Hatrack are professionals.
