I just finished reading "Treason" for the first time, and found a lot of similarities between Alvin Maker and Lanik Mueller. Several of the skills Lanik learns in his travels around Treason are similar to Alvin's knack of making. And I was just curious if anyone thought this was intentional. If nothing else, I found it an interesting parallel.
Switch around the letters in Lanik and you get Alkin...coincidence!?!? I think not.

I think so.
But yes, there are a lot of simularities. I've often though of Lanik as a proto-Alvin, Ansset from Songmaster as a proto-Ender, and Mikal from Songmaster as a proto-Peter*.
*The ruthless Peter that becomes Hegemon in Ender's Game, not the far more likable Peter that becomes Hegemon in the Shadow series. I consider them different characters, because I like the idea of Peter being cruel and ruthless like he is portrayed in EG.
