Hi, I'm new here.
I heard OSC is now trying to write the script for the movie.
I thik there are a few basic problems to begine with:
1. Ender is 6 when he gets to the battle school. I really hope the producers won't try to make him older for their own reasons. And he is supose to grow. at the end he needs to be at least a ten year old. Will they get sets of two actors for every child?
2. I really hope they wont take out the violence. Like Bonzo's death.
3. wars in the battle room. How are they going to do that? of course CGI. but it won't be eazy like kwidich at harry potter. its 82 moving kids in a room.

I have heard that they are going to make them older but not real old, I also saw on one site that they have already casted Ender's role. The problem is that I can't remember the site and IMDB has nothing on it.

Yeah the battle rooms will be a little tricky but if they get good CGI guys and do some good movie magic they should be able to pull it off well.

Don't know about the violence though...Will they go for the PG rating or will they settle with a PG-13 or R to keep the story???

Would love to hear more veteran's of the forum opinions on this one???

The Man himself on adapting a novel into a movie. If you scroll up a bit, there is another post by OSC; I just linked to this one as it addressed more of the concerns you stated in your post. I also found an old post stating that all of the kids would be under the age of 12.

I'm pretty darn sure that all rumors of Ender actually being cast are just that: rumors. Note that since that post was written, the option has been extended and Mr. Card has written another draft of the script. But I'm still pretty sure all casting rumors are just rumors.

Well I heard that he's already finished writing it, and I would guess that if 3 such obvious issues hadn't been addressed to some extent long ago, no one would have bought the movie rights in the first place.

I think that the first issue at least has been answered based on what I've been hearing for years and some common sense. The kids will be older from the start (Ender will be about 10, I believe), and the timeline of events will be reduced to something like just a yeah. They're simply the type of changes that must be made to adapt the story to film. You're probably not going to find an actor as young as 6 for Ender (and 4 for Bean!) who can play such a role. It's hard enough to find good child actors at all, and having to cast two for each role makes it more than twice as hard! In this case, staying true to the book is impractical to the point of being impossible, and I don't think that the change has to hurt the story.
