but... I find it totally awesome that Orson Scott Card 'checks in' to see what his audience is chatting about. No real reason for this topic other than to say thanks for reminding us that our input is important and valuable.

It is cool. But it isnt like he is some big time writer who won the hugo and nebula awards or anything, or like his books are being made into movies or anything like that.

I actually write most of the posts on this forum using 48 different screen names. I'm so grateful when REAL people come and post things.

Possibly the funniest thing I've heard all day [Smile]

The more you make jokes like this, sir, the more I get that urge to try to register as, say "Orson Scott Card " (note the extra space) just to see if you'd foiled that in anticipation of an Ender copycat.
But since that would likely get me banned from the forums, I've managed to keep it under control. And to avoid doing it in the future, I'm giving fair warning right here so that I'll be less tempted. (It would be great if you'd respond with something like "you idiot, I got rid of all the extra-space derivatives as soon as I made the forums," whether or not that's true, so that I'd be sure that it wasn't even possible and would have a new argument to wave at the Extra-Space Demon.)

When I first started posting here, I asked if the orson scott card was really him... I was told that if I meant the one with caps in the right place (teehee) then yeah, and anyone found trying to impersonate him would probably be banished to the isle of perpetual tickling. I thought that was hysterical.

And geesh - how do you find time for anything else, like family, supplying us readers with more material, eating, sleeping, breathing...... with 48 screen names! One is all I can handle!! : )

No, we didn't bother making the other variations on my name unusable (though some of them are because I kept forgetting my sign-on and password and those unused ones still hang around).

The reason was that since that gag was used in Ender's Game back in 1985, it's really not funny any more. Nobody would actually get any points for doing it. So as far as I know nobody's ever bothered. Maybe once ... I have a vague memory ...

Whether somebody who did it would be banned or not rather depends on what they DID with it and who they were. A kid who was just being "funny" might be told to stop it and given a second chance. Somebody who used it to post maliciously would be hunted down and stapled to the floor.

*heh - stapled to the floor... imagine someone in cleric gear stapled to the floor by the cloth struggling to get up - flailing, muttering almost explicit words, getting nowhere... foolishly amusing to me*

edit: by cleric gear i mean in the hooded robe sort of way.

Stapled to the floor in the Isle of Perpetual Tickling, and just out of reach of the computer. Which just happens to have Hatrack up. Definately torture.

Actually the only guy who ever cloned OSC really well was made moderator. Sometimes I wonder if they remembered that when they asked me. Other times I wonder if that might be the punishment. *smile*

As far as I know, the method you (Gwen) suggest never worked. The other method employed no longer works, either. And to my credit, it was more of an "I wonder if I can do this" thing, with no animosity involved at all. You know, just sayin'.
