I recently heard the audio version of this story and I have a question or two about this story. It seems to me that OSC took several stories he's already written, and incorporated themes from these into this story. IE the queen who has the dragon baby, the idea that the dragons were going to imitate humans. These themes came from Wyrms.

Was this done purposely, as I suspect? I enjoyed the story either way.

I'm not sure, but it isn't as though he doesn't regularly expand his short stories into novels. Ender's Game, and Lost Boys both did.

His short stories almost all have a lot of themes and plot ideas that have been picked up and expanded.

I suppose to be a little more sure I'd have to look up the publication dates of Butterflies and Wyrms. But I'm lazy, so I'll let someone else.

Plauge of Butterflies came first, then Wyrms.
