That Mr. Card is this down to earth guy that is very kind. I had this twisted idea that all people of great prestige were...well mean. It's good to see that a talented writer has a deep religious background and doesn't act badly to his fans.

This website is the best...

OSC has prestige? Since when? [Wink] Just kidding.

ha ha, Jon!

Yeah, he seems like a pretty cool guy, doesn't he? The type of guy you'd like to hang out with. I'd say "buy a beer," but he doesn't drink. The type of guy you'd like to buy a cheeseburger for. There ya go.

Diet Coke, Libbie, I think he likes Diet Coke.

That and Brasilian food, of course. [Wink]

He doesnt drink!!! Nah Im just kidding, but yeah he does sound like an awesome guy. His reviews on everything are the best.

I was wondering just the other day how success must change you...you can't tell people to piss off, have to keep an eye out for what people want from you, etc...

It amazes me how humble and approachable OSC is, and how generous with his time.

Way to go OSC! We love you!

I believe his last column mentioned something about celebrities can't buy "Playboy."

Posted by TheLastGunra (Member # 9860) on :

Wait why can't they buy playboy?

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

I'm guessing it's more image-wise they 'can't' than that they technically can't...

Posted by TheLastGunra (Member # 9860) on :

Yeah getting caught with those would put a blemish on your reputation.

"In the book, Miller does riffs on... why celebrities can't ever buy Playboy..."

Posted by DaisyMae (Member # 9722) on :

I feel fairly confident in my belief that OSC wouldn't buy Playboy anyway.

Posted by TheLastGunra (Member # 9860) on :

Exactly, something like that can only hurt you and your family.

I agree with you on the porn, but if I may change the subject:

This may be a dumb question, but how does he prefer to be addressed? Mr. Card seems too formal, Scott too familiar, and OSC too sterile. (I'm assuming he doesn't want to be called Orson.)

(I keep thinking of that SNL sketch where the guy keeps hassling people using the office copier:
"Sting...Sting-man...The Stinginator...making copies...")

Has he ever indicated a preference?

I think Mr. Card is used primarily when people are angry at him, and OSC the rest of the time.

Posted by TheLastGunra (Member # 9860) on :

Haha great question, I would probably end up calling him Mr. Card and secretly wish I could be more formal with him...

"Hey Scotty boy hows the writin' goin'!!!"

Yeah he'd probably file a restraining order...

Hmm, I have been using Mr. Card, and I am not angry.

oops.

Posted by DaisyMae (Member # 9722) on :

I always say OSC.

Posted by DaisyMae (Member # 9722) on :

Of course, if I were addressing him directly, I might opt for the Mr. Card.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

He has in the past expressed a preference for Mr. Card in that context.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

I refer to him as Memsahib Dude Sir.

Posted by Soundstream (Member # 9869) on :

Good, one, quib! [Smile]

So I guess the Cardinator is out, right? <g>

Seriously, I thought he might be okay with Scott, but whatever.

I still think O-Dizzle is good. He should consider legally changing his name. [Wink]

Posted by RunningBear (Member # 8477) on :

Orso Skizlle Dizzle seems formal enough.

OSC did touch on this subject a few years ago in his review column. I remember finding the juxtaposition with a Quizno's review kind of humorous. [Smile]

Edited to add: and in a cross-foral context, my greatest fear currently is being assaulted by the spongmonkeys.

RunningBear - isn't Orsizzle Skizlle Dizzle a little more accurate? ; )

Wow odd board...
