I just read at Dark Horizons that Joel Silver has acquired the rights to do a film version of Orson Scott Card's novel 'Empire'.

(Am I too late? Is there already a thread about this?)

This should make for one heck of an interesting film, if the first few chapters of the book are any indication. (Or, if just, you know, OSC's time-tested greatness as an author is any indication.)

Here's hoping that the floodgates will open at some point, and we'll see a bunch of great OSC films on the silver screen.

(I'd pay triple to see a film version of Treason, for example.)

Not sure if you saw this already, but Pathos Bill posted an interesting link about this in an earlier thread .

Well, camus, thanks, but I don't see where anybody mentioned Empire being optioned as a film by Warner Bros and Joel Silver in that thread, so I do think this deserves its own thread.

Quite true, I agree. Perhaps i should have rephrased what I said earlier. There was some additional information regarding the subject that I thought could be included in this thread also, but I didn't want to take anything away from Pathos Bill's thread so I included the link to his thread for you or anyone else to check out if interested in that discussion while also giving PB credit for his link. Quote from Pathos Bill's link:

"We can do so many different things in the video game that you could never do in a book or a movie. These things will all work in conjunction to support each other."

Hmmmmm. Has he ever read any Card? I'm sure the game will be great, and I bet my husband will HAVE to have it, but I'm fairly sure that it'll be pretty hard to beat the book. It usually is in these situations, when the book comes out first. [Wink]
