Ender's Gamer is my favorite of any book, and I just wanted to know to if anyone who has read his other books can tell me: Which are most similar to EG?

The older stuff. Songmaster, Treason, The Worthing Saga. I think they make me feel more the way Ender's Game did than any of his relatively newer stuff. The majority of OSC's work is beyond exceptional, and if you stick to his sci-fi written before '00 I don't think you can possibly go wrong.

Really? I thought the Bean books were the closest to Ender's game in tone. The Speaker books move in a different direction (a direction which I prefer, but a different one none-the-less.)

So, in conclusion, read Bean books written before 2000.
Ta-da!

Yeah, I think the best two of the bean books are Hegemon and Ender's Shadow.

Hmm... I loved EG but prefer the Speaker trilogy over the Shadow series. But Ender's Shadow is the one I would recommend as closest to EG (of course) and certainly take a look at Songmaster, the Worthing Saga, and Treason for similar OSC works.

I also think Memory of Earth has alot of the same tones as Enders Game (though a totally different subject).

Songmaster and Ender's Shadow, in different ways.

i just joined the forum like .. 5 seconds ago, and thought i would pipe in

im not sure why anyone would say "the bean saga before 2000," because the entire shadow saga is basically done in a format similar to enders game. the ONLY difference is that the reader has more awareness of whats actually going on towards the end of the saga

i just finished reading shadow of the giant in like.. 4 days, and i was pretty pissed when i was done reading because i was done so fast. i believe any part of the bean saga is worth reading, and very similar to the ender saga.

i'm sure you could compare and say the first two of each saga were better, blah blah, etc etc, but i think to get the full feel you have to read all 8... an incredibly worthwhile read.

i guess im really preaching to the choir, but im pretty pumped from finishing the shadow saga

I like the older stuff, too. Especially Songmaster and Treason. And Hart's Hope.
I think I like the non-series stuff better, on average, than the series, except I also loved Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead when I first read them. I haven't reread them for quite some time now, so not sure what my older opinion will be. I guess it's time to dust them off in preparation for the new Ender book i read about in another string.

Read the Bean books. A lot of people are saying read Worthing and Treason, but I would avoid those books. No offense, but they are my least favorite of Cards books next to Empire.

hey, off topic, probably bad form, but why is abysmalpotart (great name) listed as a member when he says he just joined. I just joined too and I'm listed as a NewMember. What defines these, just out of interest?

I'm trying to decide whether to read Empire, having read a number of things about it now.

It's the number of posts. I believe 5 is the cutoff.

I don't see The Worthing Saga as similar to Ender's Game at all. But since I don't have much of an answer otherwise, I don't really know what else to tell you. I guess you'd have to elaborate on what it was you really liked about Ender's Game.
