Thought OSC and other non-Canadians out there might be interested to know that the last time the Canadian dollar was worth 90 cents U.S. was September 2006. I'm guessing that's not the 'when' referred to.

Also, it's not really that much of a difference anyway -- compared to Mexican pesos/US dollars, it's nothing. (1 peso is worth 10 cents).

I think the Americans should wait before they start trashing on the Canadian dollar. imho I believe in 20 years the world is going to see 3 new super powers emerge. The first being China, sheer size and power house industry wise, second European Union, Biggest trading consortium ever seen, the Euro has continued to climb like a rocket due to the fact china relies on a stable trading partner J - and yes you guessed it CANADA in an equal position as a super power. Not because of military might or super geniuses running the country but simply because of our stores of fresh water. The middle easterners use oil to boil salt water down into drinking water, and the north of China may experience major famines due to a lack of drinkable water. It may seem odd now but imho water will soon be the next "hot" commodity on the open market - which Canada has in the form of the great lakes.

Canada has vast oil shale reserves, and the extraction technology has reached the point where they can be mined profitably (if not "responsibily"). That's still not enough to make it a superpower, but it's enough to buy off the Chinese if it comes to that...not that it will. The Chinese have made the classic mistake, showing up only when the game is already over.
