I was looking at resigning up for ATITD. It is a cool game with a good concept. They are in the 3rd telling.

However, I decided to wait until I hear about OSC's MMORPG. When will it be done? Is it still in the works?

I remember reading a while back that they were using the ATITD engine.

Anyone know when/if it will be released?

You have no idea how much fun I had making up meanings for "ATITD" before I looked it up. [Wink]

If your "fun meanings" had anything to do with 2 cup sizes, I might have a clue. [Big Grin]

Seriously, where is everybody on this side of the fence? Two days and this post has only been responded to once. That alone doesn't surprise me, but it hasn't even been bumped down half a page.

Maybe I should post this on the "cultured" side.

Well, I'd like to see it done. Though Treason would be a much better setting for a more traditional MMORPG.

I've had much the same thought, Bok [Smile] Though it's a more obscure book, it's got a great title, and some awesome faction differentiation. Of course, it would take more than just that to compete with WoW.

We have been teased with the possibility of an OSC MMROPG based off of his Alvin books two years ago.

I am still patiently waiting with my Credit Card.

After all these years of taking part together in this online Hatrack River community, I'm happy to announce that today (5 January 2005), I entered into an agreement with eGenesis, the game company that created "A Tale in the Desert."

Andy Tepper, the lead designer of ATITD, saw in the Tales of Alvin Maker a world where another non-combat-centered community-building game could offer new possibilities.

Man, think of how awesome a Treason mmo would be.... You get to pick a Nation, and all the Nations are competing for iron, which is like the equivalent of honor points in other mmos. Like if you kill an enemy player you get iron, ect. It would also be cool if events triggered wars between nations, and sometimes you are at peace with a nation, sometimes you aren't.

They'd have to take a lot of time to make each nation unique, yet at the same time completely equal. Much like Horde vs Alliance in WoW.

Oh and an Alvin Maker MMO sounds cool too =P.

I agree, using Treason for the setting for an MMO would be a great idea.

Puppy, I agree [EDIT: about the toppling of WoW]. I actually have a couple MMO ideas (one a RPG, one a two-tiered RTS) bouncing around in my head. Both non-traditional in setting, like Treason. [EDIT: I doubt they'd be massively popular, but I think they'd be cool.]

As for a Treason MMO, you'd start with a 4-5 nations, tops, as playable. You'd also likely have some nations as non-playable PvE enemies... An interesting problem would be how to set the game? Pre-Mueller or post-? Pre-Mueller leads to a setting where people are maintaining an uneasy balance, so no one family gets a ton of iron, but then you can never really affect the world. Post allows for a different dynamic, but the fact that one can learn all the different family talents could be unbalancing. Of course you could just disallow it, but then you'll get some complaints.

So...has anyone heard about the status of the Alvin MMORPG based on the ATITD engine?

You create Treason the MMORPG and say it topples WOW. Blizzard counters with World of Starcraft and BAM! You are obliterated back to square one.

The difference between Treason and Alvin, is that there is actually a plan in the works for the Alvin MMORPG. I just can't seem to find any information on when it will be ready to buy.

The thing is these things take time, unlike the rest of the world OSC is in no rush to make a product that could quite possibly come out as garbage. If it isn't good it won't be released.

*edit* sorry been swearing in a couple plays as of late and it's coming into my writing.

Please try not to use gratuitous swears in posts. It's a long standing tradition/rule that Hatrack, being family/kid friendly, discourages the behavior.

Otherwise, I think your opinion, while true in general, is not the case here. OSC provided the rights to the game to a small indie-dev who has created a prior game that aligns well with a lot of OSC's personal philosophies of society-building and noticeable lack of direct violence.

Mostly, I'm pretty sure Teppy, said indie developer, is swamped with his current game.
