I'm sure there are a million threads on this, but I just finished reading "Treason".
Cool book. I even got my partner at work to read it too. Looking at the date it was written, or at least the rough draft, was written before "Songmaster", one of my all time favorite books.
I say this because "Songmaster" seems so much better written then "Treason". Maybe it's when OSC did his revisions or maybe I just like the story and pacing of "Songmaster" better.
"Treason" seemed almost similar in tone to the "Worthing Saga".

? A partner? Well, you could call him more of a special friend than anything else. I don't think we're serious enough to be called "partners". And I'm still on the market too. Why, what have you heard?

Yeah, there was. I still get depressed and lonely from time to time but I'm getting more and more used to living alone. I figure if I'm comfortable by myself I'm a better match for a future partner.

I think Treason is either my second or third favorite OSC novel. I love how he adapted known sciences into a far-out scifi world. Also, the different abilities and how they worked with the perspectives and goals of the particular people, and the commentary this had on society as a whole was stellar. Good book.
[MINOR SPOILER]
The only thing that bugged me the tiniest bit was at the end when Lannick1 was able to convince Lannick2 to join him in practically no time. We see throughout the story how strong willed, clear thinking and smart Lannick is, and then the exact copy of him turns out to be a pushover in the end. Well, not really a pushover, but you know, he just caved on everything he believed his whole life after two minutes with his... other-self. I think I mentioned this in another Treason thread and it was pointed out that who better to convince you of something than yourself, but still.

Well, going from memory, Lanik the protagonist was able to convince the ruling Lanik because the ruling Lanik was still a rad and miserable from it. At that point he probably would have done anything for a cure, and he saw that Lanik the protagonist was cured. It probably made him seem almost god-like. The Author's Note in my copy says that Treason was the author's "second book to be published", and that he has learned a lot more about writing since then. My copy says copyright 1988 on the inside cover.
If it was the second book he ever wrote, I wouldn't be surprised if it was similar to others of his books, and not as well-written as we're used to.

that book was crazy awesome, but it was weird. it reminded me of the worthing saga in a strange sort of way.

I really enjoyed Treason. It's one of my favorite OSC books. It's also not one I hear peopel talk about much, even OSC fans. Most people only seem to read Ender or Alvin and sometimes the homecoming books. Even though Treason may not be as well written as some of his more known books, I just love the story. I recommend it to OSC and sci-fi/fantasy fans all the time. In fact, I've never actually met another person who has read it.
