Do you find yourself quoting OSC ad nauseam? I read just about all the OSC reviews and I find myself saying, "OSC thought...," "OSC didn't like that movie because...," or "OSC liked/didn't like that author" WAY TOO MUCH!!! It has gotten to the point that my husband makes fun of me every time I start talking about OSC's likes or dislikes. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird. I guess it is just a good thing I don't live near Greensboro because then I would have to talk about all of OSC's food choices as well!

What do you say when you're in a conversation about global warming?

Honestly, that topic confuses me so much I usually just keep my mouth shut. I hear too much conflicting information and don't know who to believe.

My love of OSC's views make it tricky where I work since I work for a university where I'm the only non-extremely-left-wing person in the office. My boss keeps trying to get me to watch the Gore movie and Bowling for Columbine.

My wife makes fun of me for that too. She usually asks "Do you just like that because OSC likes it?"

I do often bring up things I've read in OSC columns, if only because it brings an interesting viewpoint to an otherwise one-sided conversation. I disagree with him sometimes, but it's fun to play devil's advocate with my liberal friends.

I only quote OSC when he's talking about writing. So, more accurately, I quote "Character and Viewpoint," "How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy," and anything he says about JKR.

Steve_G, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

There are actually somethings I disagree with OSC about. I don't enjoy all of his music suggestions...but that is just a matter of having different taste. I usually have luck with his book recomendations. Also, sometimes when you don't know anything about a topic, hearing his veiwpoint is at least a starting point I guess.

My wife thinks that I try to read everything he has ever written but I now have her on board as far as his movie reviews go. Now she asks me "What did Card say about it" when we are checking movies to watch. (It helps that she is also a Card fan)

I don't quote much from his essays and opinions, but I find myself using phrases or quotes from the books alot.

Or even worse, thinking "Wow, that guy acts alot like Peter" or "What a Calvin he is"

What I find is that if both Orson and my ex-wife like a movie, it's going to be truly great. IF only one of them likes it, it'll be OK. If both dislike it...I've never bothered with those.

Same here, minus the JFK bit. [Wink]
