(very minor Spoiler)

Anyone see Wanted, and see the Loom and immediatly think Alvin Maker? From what I understand it is not in the Graphic Novel but totally a movie creation. Anyone else think that?

Nah. It was just a poor plot device.

Though I feel like I did think "Huh. That reminds me of Enders Game" at one point during that movie, though I also could be thinking of another one.

Perhaps we can assume that the director/writer have read some OSC?

Too bad it didn't stop them from making a crappy movie.

The idea isn't original to Card. Human fate being determined by three weavers is an archetype that occurs in Greek myth with the Moirae, Klotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. The archetype may also exist in Norse myth in the form of the Norns, but it's very possible that the Norns have been forced into that role by people viewing Norse myth through the lense of Greek.

Read enough fiction and you'll find the same devices and symbols showing up again and again. OSC himself suggested that Harry Potter books used his ideas - but he was kidding. Nuttin new under the sun.

Actually, David Brin has a great novella that predates any of the Alvin books, and uses the loom metaphor. You can read it online on Brin's site:

"The Loom of Thessaly"
