Great column.
BUT, David Crosby's not dead!! He's in good shape, lost 50 lbs last year, his voice is still fantastic. I saw him with the rest of CSN in concert 10 months ago. And he and Nash are on David Gilmour's latest DVD, singing backup.
OSC might mean Stephen Stills, but he's not dead either, although his voice is definitely a goner (another of the great '60s voices smoked into oblivion).

I thought I would have heard if David Crosby had died.

Sorry ... I thought he HAD heard. Kristine thought so too. I think what happened was that we read about his diabetes, and discussed how ironic it would be if he got the transplant and then died of diabetes ... and that conversation got transformed in our aging memories into a discussion based on his actually having died.

For what it's worth, columnists and other writers make mistakes like this all the time. Nobody's memory is even remotely perfect, and we don't just forget, we transform and combine and imagine things and they become "real" to us. Normal functioning of the human mind. That's why the job of "fact-checker" exists - not because writers are liars and have to be caught, but because memory is imperfect and writers assume things that they "remember" that in fact are not true.

Usually the Rhinoceros Times fact checkers catch such mistakes. But sometimes BOTH the writer and the factchecker share the same misconception ... and then the error has to be caught by alert readers.
