..Hey I never hear anything about this series. Everyone always talks about Ender's series or Bean's or Alvan's, and the single books, but I don't think I've heard any reaction to these books. I've seen the books in the library, and they look really old, and I'm going to get around to reading them along with all the other OSC books, but I'd like a quick opinion of what you guys think of it. Thanks!

I really liked the series... in fact my copy has the first 3 books in one big book. Talk about looking like a nerd lugging that thing around. (see col graff's nerd question on other forum)

I really enjoyed them, too. Got into the characters, as usual with OSC. But that made it difficult when I got to the last book and it took place so much later that there was only like one original character left.
But those first few books ... I really dug those.

I've a question to Mr. Card, but maybe someone will reply. I looked thru Homecoming series and figured out that many wordrs are transliteration of Russian words, many of which are used only in vernacular and never in literary form, choosing my words carefully. As well Russian adverbs and adjectives are used as personal names. Was it intentional? And how well Mr. Card knows Russian?

It is, hands down, my absolute favorite Card series. I LOVE it.
I found out after I'd read the series about half a dozen times that it's actually a rough adaptation of the Book of Mormon (or some parts of it anyway). It was pretty funny, I was reading another ancient card book that I found in a used book store ("Woman of Destiny" better known as "Saints") and at one point a character synopsizes a little of the Book of Mormon. I was like, "Woah - that's Nafai!".
Anyway, I highly recommend the books. The last book is hundreds of years after the second to last, but that is sad only because you mourn the characters you knew before. Actually, some of my favorite characters of all time are in Earthborn. Edhadeya is a princess to shame anything out of "Once upon a time"

I think Earthborn was my favorite of the Homecoming series. I guess the way the characters from the first books (especially Earthfall) came and went through time kept me from getting too attached to them. One minute it's all about Nafai, the next Oykib is the axis of the story, there's an attempt to include Cheveya... but Earthborn introduces new characters and focuses on their story.
Or maybe it was just that Earthborn was less about adultery and more about unalienable rights.

I was just thinking how this is his most underrated series. I put off reading them until I had pretty much read everything else, and they were just so well done. Powerful writing.

It's one of my favorites. Elemak is a memorable villian, even if hes only an average character, and Earthborn one of the best closing novels ever. They also have my favorite prelogues, by a mile.
I want a story about Protchnu's life after Earthfall ends.
