The same way Peter Wiggin did. Anyone wanna help me take over the planet and unite all the countries into one country?

Tempting, but no.

There is only one Lord of the Rings, only one who can bend it to his will. And he does not share power.

Uniting the whole world as one country seems messy.

I'm in if your interested in just taking over a little country nobody would really notice. [Wink]

I've sometimes considered the merits of becoming an African warlord. It seems to me that there's a lot of rootless youth in the West today who might like to become conquistadores, and it can't take a whole lot of training to be better than armed mobs that have to conscript children. AK-47s are cheap. Even some helicopters and stuff, and say some surplus T-42 tanks from Russia, are not utterly beyond the means of a private individual in the West. A motivated army with aerial recon and some tanks should be able to put your average conscripted-child force on the run, no?

Make sure you pick one of the resource rich areas though. You want your empire to have long term viability. Those conquistadores are going to want spoils.

I suggest anywhere with coltan or uranium. Not as hot button as gold, diamonds and oil, but you can hold the world ransom with coltan.

Well, if he can't get people to follow him, by definition, not very good.

You are going about it all wrong. I have a hard time believing that when Peter Wiggin got on the nets his first post was "I wanna take over the world". Without a bit of subtlety you won't be taking over your backyard, let alone the world.

And Steve G gives the first welcome to Hatrack, your wrong. [Big Grin]

I was just joking. Taking over the world would be virtually impossible. None of the countries would want to unite. It wouldn't happen. Trying to be presidents hard enough.

It's not impossible my young friend, it's just highly unlikely given the worlds current state. I would join you, but to be frank it would not be for helping you take the throne, as it's justifiable to say that you lack the, je ne sais quois... Maybe the will, ambition or drive to complete your task alone. If you want to be alone at the top, you must be alone getting there and I would only use you as a tool early before discarding you and any perceived power or influence you might have gained. So I guess you would deny my assistance now that you know this. :-P

However I will humor you in showing a broad, singular path to achieve that goal, if you want to play Locke. You need to first find subtlety, then find some form of "world ending, human extinction" reason for us to unite under. THEN, as the crisis comes to an end is when you play your final hand. (I hope you figured out that you would be playing cards the entire time the human race was trying to save itself.)

Now, you need to start small like I have. First, you gain a devoted following within the masses, one that doesn't have to hang on your every word, but one that hangs on your lofty ideals. Second, you DO need a plan or a manifest of ideas that will get someone ELSE into the position of "Ruler of Humans." We all know that the plan set forth will work for you, but will it work for me, or that guy lurking in the corner given me dirty looks? It has to work in there minds and make them say: "Hey, maybe I COULD do it... But I'm lazy and going to make YOU do it for me." In the end, I will complete my task, but I want you to make sure that you think it was your idea and you're telling me to do it, when in reality you're just "OKing" my idea and allowing me to go forward.

Now, once you have all this set in motion, it's time to sit back and pray that human's are not completely wiped from the Earth. That just might put a big enough crimp in your plans that it won't work, but you never know.

So now lets say the human race lives, the people are calling for your leadership and you begin enforcing your plans. It will be messy, it will cost lives, but in the end we know that it is for the betterment of humanity as a whole.

Alas, I must find another pawn though, since you admittedly do not believe the world can be united and that you were only joking. (Half of what you say when joking is truth based.) So I'll leave you with my reply to simmer over. :-P

In a parting thought, no need to slander or find some way to disprove my idea, for it's a broad and general thought, only based off of taking the world over by purely playing a Critic role. I have already argued with myself on several points while writing this, but that's not answering his question and filling out one SIMPLE path to follow. Thank you for your time.

Au revoir pour le moment.

A quick side note, I pray what some might see as "brashness," is not taken in offense, as it was not meant to be taken that way. It's simply stating current and obvious facts based on the aforementioned replies. :-)

Sounds like a good idea. Wouldn't be good for the human race to have a world war 3 though...

No, it definitely wouldn't.

And about taking over the world- that's right, Locke was much more subtle than our ambitious subhuman here, but hey, before he started as Locke he had many other aliases, he searched the Web, learned peoples reactions. That's probably what subhuman's doing. He'll show up in six months as... Thomas Aquinas or else. And he'll begin his duty.

This is true, we might just be seeing the early stages of his conquest. He might have fooled us already, causing us to think he couldn't do it, but in reality he's playing us as fiddles... Until now. Though, I might have already given him what he needed, ideas as to his next step in the new identity he is about to create... Only time will tell if he, or I, will make it there first. ;-)

a better plan is becoming the next big thing in hollywood. you get the power and the adulation without any of the responsibility. it's easier than politics if you ask me.

Unifing the world under one flag is a pipe dream. You can't just tell someone "Your land is going to be ruled by my land and you will be stripped of your independece, but it is for the greater good.". People are more than mindless pawns. The world is not just a large verison of 16th century Florence, where people are always scheming against each other in the court of a prince.

If there was such an international crisis, people wouldn't follow you alone. There would likely be some sort of U.N. type temporary intenational government. A following among the "masses" is not unaimous. There will always be a lot of people who disagree with whatever ideas you are putting forth. You can not allow such people to exist if you become "ruler of the world", unless that is, you create a fourth reich and ship off everyone in your way to concentration camps, and if you did that, no one would stand behind you.

P.S. acting idle in times of crisis did not give Nero a good legacy [Smile]

Running an army is very, very expensive. First of all, you must hire trained professionals to run heavy equipment. Then you must fuel the tanks, helicopters, APCs etc. etc., which is expensive. Also, you would have to train your soldiers for years to be on an equal plane with
soldiers/pillaging rapists who have been fighting for years. You also must pay your soldiers, feed them, clothe them, and keep them loyal. You probably won't find any trained NCO's or officers, although you might be able to field some mercenaries. Even if you conquered the country, the locals you resent being ruled by whites (or for that matter American blacks), and the U.S. might send a peacekeeping force of Marines to the royal palace in the name of liberty and self-rule.

I have no comment in this thread (well, I do, but I have no time), but I wanted to stop in and comment on youngnapoleon's name.

You have an awesome name!

I actually am working on getting a paper published detailing Napoleon's last years in Corsica. Very interesting stuff.

Thank you! [Big Grin] I am angry that George B. McCellan was called the "Young Napoleon", since he was a cautious soldier who fought his best battles on paper. Santa Anna stole the name "American Napoleon", although he was also a poor general.
