So I found this on Wikipedia:

quote:
Shadows Alive is a planned science fiction novel by Orson Scott Card in the Ender's Game series. It will link the Ender's Shadow books back to the Ender Saga.

Card has said that Shadows Alive will wrap up some of the plot threads left dangling in Shadow of the Giant (the fourth Shadow book). The book will pick up from where Children of the Mind (the final book in the Ender quintet) left off.[1] During Eurocon 2010, Card said that Bean dies in the first chapter of the book.[2][3] This novel was originally to be part of Shadows in Flight, but has since separated to Shadows Alive.

As some of you might know, this used to be the description for "Shadows in Flight", but now that entry says this:

quote:
Shadows in Flight is a planned science fiction short story by Orson Scott Card in the Ender's Game series. This short story should not be confused with Shadows Alive, the big wrap-up novel that brings Bean's children together with Peter and Valentine from Children of the Mind. It is about Bean and his children discovering an ancient Formic "ark" during their journey in space
I was a bit surprised to find this, given that this is OSC's website and there hasn't been any news that I'm aware of. Does anyone know anything else about this? From what I can tell, he slipped in an update on his bibliography page, but didn't bother to direct anyone to it [ROFL]

Most of us on the forums don't even check the front page all that often, so we wouldn't have seen an announcement there.

Cool: http://www.hatrack.com/osc/bibliography/index.shtml#progress

Awesome news. I cannot wait for this book, and the short story. Hope to hear some more official news on it from OSC.

Since it's finally on his "In progress" section, I'm assuming it's coming sometime this year or the next, which is great news. He announced another book was coming way back in 2006 or 2007 (I forget), so it has been quite the long wait.

Here's hoping it gets here soon so I have something outstanding to read. I'm going through some Kurt Vonogut books at the moment and after those are done I've go no idea what I'll get into.

From the "works in progress" page:

quote:
Rasputin (with Kathryn H. Kidd, book 2 in the Mayflower series, Tor)
I wonder, is that really in progress or is there no "works uncompleted" category.

SW, I join your cynicism.

Lol SW, good point.

Somehow the title "Shadows Alive" reads as though it should be followed by an exclamation point and written in Showcard Gothic.

He's never going to write Master Alvin, is he?

I think he has demonstrated that he will come back and work on Alvin...unlike certain other *coughLovelockcough* books.

I think OSC might have the writing equivalent of ADD. He seems like he enjoys starting new stories, getting really involved with the characters, but then he gets bored and doesn't finish them. I can only think of a few that have actually been completed.

I mean, just recently he started Pathfinder and the Lost Gate, but we're still waiting on Shadows Alive, Master Alvin, Rasputin, and the next Women in Genesis novel.

Still, at least it appears as though he's working on the Shadows Alive book.

But Shadows Alive, as much as I'm looking forward to it, doesn't really need to exist to complete the story. You don't really need to say more about Bean or Peter from CotM, even though you can. But Alvin's story is obviously incomplete. I think Card probably just has no idea how to finish it.

Normally I would agree with you Bryan, if this was a sequel to the Ender series of books, but it's not. This is a sequel to the Bean books, and from what I understand (I could totally be wrong because I haven't read the last book in the Shadow series), it's not complete yet.

yea it is definitely not complete
