So this is my first post. I have just finished Ender in Exile and am caught up with the books, but I noticed something that I need help clarifying.
In one of the Shadow books, I believe Shadow of the Hegemon, Bean is in Ender's childhood hometown and passes by his school and ends up at Ender's house. Here's where I'm confused, because in both Ender's game and Exile, it is mentioned about how the Wiggen family moved away to the countryside to get away from the ghosts of Ender, yet when Bean walks up to the House that Ender lived in when he was still on Earth; Bean is greeted by Theresa Wiggen. Can someone help explain this error?

Welcome to Hatrack! [Wave]

This confused me the first time I read the Shadow series as well. Bean is in Greensboro, the town the Wiggins moved to, and not the city where Ender grew up. This exchange between Bean and Carlotta clarifies it:

quote:
Shadow of the Hegemon, page 156:
"We'll buy you new clothes in Greensboro," said Sister Carlotta.

Greensboro. "Ender's home town."

"He only visited there once. His family moved there after he left for Battle School."

"Oh, eh. He grew up in the big city, like me."

I'm not sure which "big city" Ender was originally from; I don't remember it ever being mentioned in the books. But apparently it was very different from Greensboro.

The confusion comes because the hardcover edition has Greensboro as Ender's hometown. This was an error that was caught before it was published, but there was some sort of miscommunication, and the book was printed with the old incorrect version. The paperback edition has the revision with it not being Ender's home town - the correct version.
