I bought the Kindle version of Shadows in Flight and sat there scratching my head after finishing it in a half morning. I knew it was short, but that short!?

Then after googling around, I got the unpleasant surprise that the Kindle book is in fact an abridged version.

Sure I can return it, but the book has been spoilt for me now. There is absolutely no mention on Amazon that this is an abridged work.

I would be happy to pay MORE for the Kindle version than for the hardback - just give me the full book!

From what I understand, there is an unabridged version being released eventually. I heard it should be coming out towards the end of the year, but there is probably someone here that is more in the know than I am.

You never know who may post in here!

Oh, and welcome to Hatrack!

Question came up earlier this year in this thread. The answer came from a Facebook post (note this was back in January of this year):

quote:
There's no ebook for a year, but there'll be an "enhanced ebook" for Kindle and Nook within a couple of weeks, fully illustrated by Nick Greenwood (and deftly abridged by Jake Black.)."

I also read the Kindle "enhanced" version a week or so ago and was pretty disappointed with it... it had some interesting bits, but it seemed like it could have been much more fleshed out. I had NO IDEA that I was reading an abridged version until just now finding this topic. There's absolutely no mention of this on Amazon (from the author, publisher, nobody), and now I feel severely cheated. I would have gladly bought the hardcover instead if I'd known I'd be getting the full story -- you know, the actual story that OSC wrote that I thought I was buying, not something a third of the size that somebody else edited down. No wonder it felt more sparse than I expected, since it was missing a lot of the story. I contacted Amazon about this, and they said unfortunately it's the publisher's doing, they choose to advertise that it's the same as the print version and haven't edited the product information to explain that it's not really the same content. Pretty deceptive on the publisher's part..
