I think it's the first time ever that the website changed.

Yeah, that was unexpected.

And it's not a very good change. Structurally and aesthetically.

Hopefully they don't wipe out the forum archive. It is sad how little activity there is here now though. This used to be a thriving community when I first started visiting. A year or two later I created an account. I guess I should have posted more.

I've never been much of a forum poster (just had nothing to contribute, I guess), but I read most of the stuff. Yeah. I've spent 13 years here and it is sad to see one post every three days.

It's not the first time, but the last time some people also thought it wasn't good. [Razz]

I wouldn't count on that NOT happening. There was a purge sometime around 2003, I think. It was traumatic. More recently, they upgraded the forum software on ornery.org from the ancient UBB Classic still in use here to SMF. They didn't wipe out the old UBB data that time, so maybe they'd preserve the forum data here if anything changes...? But if you care about your posts, you should archive them yourself.

Might have helped a little, but I think the biggest factor is the rise of social networks, followed by OSC's decision to stop participating here, followed by an exodus to other forums (for reasons that include disillusionment with OSC over political stances and how this forum was moderated).

So does OSC engage fans anywhere in the internets if not here?

Well, there's some discussion on his Facebook page, but I don't see him responding to comments - it's just fans talking to each other.

Even so, that is a livelier place than this to get some discussion about stuff OSC is announcing.
