I said the same, Saudade. [Smile]

My wife just called to let me know she's having contractions, and she thinks her water broke.

I thought that was one of those things that there wasn't much question about. Maybe I should start reading those books.

Yay!! Be sure to let us know!

I guess I hadn't realized when your due date was. Yay!

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

True...not like it is on TV, with a huge gush o' stuff. It can come out in a trickle, leaving the doubt there. There's a book called The Expectant Father that has a lot of good info for first time Dads. Such as the fact that your wife's brain shrinks during pregnancy.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

quote:

I'm not even going to touch that one.

Have you got everything set? I know you've already got the car seat put in, because they won't let you take anyone home without it.

If I remember right, you didn't say what flavor you were having because your wife doesn't want to know and she may see it here. Does that still hold?

Posted by Belle (Member # 2314) on :

It depends on where it breaks. If it breaks close to the cervix, yes it will all gush out. If the hole is closer to the top of the uterus, it will have to trickle down, and some women may not notice it since *gross factor alert!* a woman does naturally have more need of panty shields in late pregnancy than one normally would. Actually, it's not gross, it's just the pregnant body doing its work.

So, it's possible not to know.

Tick, this is so exciting! We want to know just as soon as you can tell us, but if we don't hear from you for a couple days, we'll know where you are and what you're doing. [Smile]

Give that precious one a kiss from all of us at hatrack.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

That is true, zgator. She still does not know, although she was sorely tempted to peek in the nursery after we were done decorating. [Smile]

Thanks guys...we're still waiting. Jen thinks it may have been signs of prelabor, which could mean a few more days of waiting. That would make her parents happy, they are in Europe for a few more days. [Wink]

Congrats Tick. I hope it is a fast delivery. From the moment my mom's water broke til it was completly over and i was sleeping next to her was 45 minutes.

Keep us informed.

Posted by Arthur (Member # 4026) on :

ok, so being a first time dad the tick got a little excited (or was he secretly wishing the baby would come while my parents were in Europe). I saw the doctor this morning and it looks like the little ticklette won't be arriving for about a week.

I'm still back hung up on the nursery decorations. Do you mean to tell me Arthur, that the Tick painted it all the appropriate color, and you don't know what that color is because you haven't looked?

AJ

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

She doesn't want to find out, so she hasn't looked. [Smile] And anyway, a glance at the walls wouldn't give everything away, but some of the decorations might.

My wife didn't like my idea of hanging some of my swords in our son's nursery. I just can't figure women out.

Posted by Arthur (Member # 4026) on :

There are very few things in life that actually suprise someone. What the baby is is something I truly want to be suprised at. There was a point a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to look in the nursery, but I've waited 9 months and to peek, even now would cause me to become very disapointed in myself. Besides the fact that I had enough will power to wait and The Tick didn't is funny. He is definately the more laid back, patient one.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I just wanted to know. [Smile] I could've waited, no problem. Heck, if I had no willpower I would've spilled it by now.

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

My friend actually wanted to know, but the baby didn't cooperate for the sonigrams. She was so pleasantly surprised when she had her baby. She called me later in the day and was still glowing about how satisfying it was.

Hey, as long as they are not sharp swords, I don't see a problem.

(Just kidding, honey)

Posted by Belle (Member # 2314) on :

I just wanted to chime in here and tell Arthur not to get too cosy with the idea of it being a week.

My doc sent me home on Dec 23rd, told me to enjoy Christmas and he'd see me on the 27th to induce because that baby wasn't engaged and we wouldn't be in labor for a week or so.

A little over 24 hours later I was spending Christmas Eve in the labor/delivery room and had Natalie at 1:00am Christmas morning. [Wink]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I thought you were being prophetic, Belle. My wife had more contractions last night than she's had in the past week. No baby yet, though. [Wink]

Tick, my very best wishes to you and Arthur. Can hardly wait to send congratulations. [Big Grin]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Apparently my wife is going to progress at the absolute slowest rate possible. It gives me more time to prepare the home, but I want to meet my baby!

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

So, we still wait in eager anticipation! It will make the final moment all the more exciting!

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Hope everything is going well. I always thought they tried to deliver within 24 hours of the water breaking. Has that changed?

Waiting really sucks! (I understand you have more important things to do, but man, the wait is killer!)

[Big Grin]

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Kayla, as of last year when I was going through the refresher lamaze class, they had relaxed that stance. There's still a strong concern about infection, but they aren't quite so strict on the 24 hours as they used to be. In rare cases, they'll even try to hold off delivery for weeks to let the baby develop more. Depends on the case, I think. I thought it was interesting since it was different from when I'd had my son 10 years ago.

I have more time, so some more info. It turned out she only had a 'high leak' of water originally, which probably sealed over. After a day or so of no progress, they found that out and broke the rest of the water. Unfortunately, she still didn't progress even though her contractions got so intense as to bring tears to her eyes (and mine!). After hours of this, she opted for an epidural, which they hoped would relax her and allow her to progress. It helped, but still no great progress (they actually use 18 hours as the amount of time they'll let you go once your water is broken, but they will extend it as long as there is no sign of infection). She went in for a Caesarean last night about 11, and then we had our baby. [Smile] Mom and baby have been doing fantastic, she had no complications...that is what had me scared, considering her history with major abdominal surgery. Pictures will be available as soon as my In-laws offload them from the digital camera.

After HOURS??!!! Epidural is your friend. Her friend, too. The first thing we tell the doctors when we get to the hospital is, 'Bring the epidural!' No sense waiting.

Pain sucks.

Congrats Arthur and Tick! Welcome to the world, Thomas Paul Ticklet! Tick, also very responsible of you to wait the requisite 12 hours before posting at Hatrack, so you could spend that time with wife and child. I notice you didn't go overboard, though, which we appreciate, since we were all waiting for the news. Our prayers for continued health and quick recovery.

Whatever it was in the water that caused the spate of Hatrack babies must of had the side effect of serious cuteness.

All the hatracklets I've seen are adorable - and Thomas is no exception. Look at those eyes!

Watch out for those carrots, Tick. My mom tells me that when I was little I liked them a lot, so they fed me carrots all the time. I ate so many, I turned orange for awhile!

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

My mom still eats enough carrots that her skin has a slight yellowish tinge to it. Once in a while she overdoes the carrots, and it's really noticeable.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

That is one seriously cute kid, Tick. Although, the carrot pictures make me nervous. I was hoping that end might end up being at least a little cleaner than the other end. If you feed him enough carrots, does it come out orange on that side too?

quote:
He's such a good kid...he watches the football games with me.
Ryan watched the UF / FSU game with us. He wore his FSU clothes for the first half for Kristine and his Gator clothes for the second half. He seemed to cry during all those lousy calls. Because they won, he wore his FSU clothes the next day. But he did spit up all over them to show his true feelings.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

He's slowly being introduced to other foods...didn't seem to care for apple sauce, likes peaches, likes sweet potato, likes the cereal. He's not normally THAT messy, but he was very awake and active. Most of that is from grabbing the spoon for more. [Smile]

With most babies who are just starting "solids," most things come out looking pretty similar to how it went in.

So, yes. [Big Grin]

You know, I've never really found babies to be all that cute. I like them, but I generally find non-human babies to be far cutier than the human variety.

This guy, though, is adorable. I can't believe how cute he is!

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

Noemon, Tom thinks all babies look like Winston Churchill. *giggle*

I think Thomas keeps getting cuter and cuter with every picture. He knows just how to look into the camera now with those big baby blue eyes. You're going to have to watch that one!

The best is when they fall asleep on you. The other day he fell asleep with his head on my shoulder, and his hands gripping my shirt. Couldn't put him down if I tried! He's getting to the point where he wants to be down and moving more and held less...::sigh::. By the time Kamacon rolls around, he'll be running all over the place.

I love it when they crawl around like they're full of energy, and keep going till they just stop. They crash right there on the floor where they ran out of juice.

*nostalgia again*

Oh my goodness, has it really been that long!?!

Still adorable, of course.

Happy Birthday, Ticklet!

Hey, he's quite the little stud!

I can't believe he's a year old already either! Has the time seemed to have flown for you?

Wow! Happy birthday, Ticklet.

And (very) belated congratulations to the proud parents. [Big Grin]

Edit: Wow, that is some birthday cake! I only got a cupcake for my first birthday... suddenly, I feel ripped off.

Thanks! To the absolute delight of his out of town grandparents, Thomas walked first at his birthday party while they were here. Now, he's a runner. [Smile] It has flown by at times but I think moreso for my wife. She misses the little cuddly baby Thomas. [Big Grin]

Now of course he can run to you or smile when you get home from work. [Wink]

He's getting so big now, Tick. Is he able to help you save the world yet?

Posted by Arthur (Member # 4026) on :

He's trying! As long as he can use power tools or car keys to help. He is really big on using a power drill to put holes in things. [Smile]

Sorry! That first link works when I'm logged in. [Embarrassed]

I got lucky with that picture...Thomas was getting his socks on, I pointed the camera toward him, and he laid his head down. [Smile]

My older brother had big brown eyes, breathtakingly long lashes, and curly blond hair until he was two.

Yeah, NO ONE, at first sight, thought he was a boy.

New Thomas pictures! These are from Christmas part I while Uncle Gregg, Aunt Heather, baby Ethan and pup Maarten are here. New baby Ethan too.

Adorable! I can't wait for Sophie to be able to help us with the tree, and Thomas looks so cute on his fire engine.

*whine* But where, oh where are the swimming pictures? [Razz]

And I'm getting funny errors on your forum, too [Frown]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I noticed that. I was able to backup the forum db, I'll have to try a few things tonight. Still working on the swimming pictures. [Smile]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I figured out the problem, should have it fixed tonight. [Smile]

Thomas really prefers to UNdecorate the tree rather than decorate. [Wink]

What fun! I want to make gingerbread houses!

Thomas had fun, although he would rather eat the materials than put them on the house. [Big Grin]

New picture, christening my camera phone! Have to try a video later, see if I can get his voice out there too. [Big Grin]

I use my 4000th post for...more Thomas pictures! Seems appropriate. [Smile]

Hiding from Santa. He actually pulled his sweater up over his head. Funny guy.

Cookie decorating. Somehow, the candy kept disappearing. [Wink]

I stayed home with him Monday (it was -1 out!), it was one of my favorite days ever. [Big Grin]

Baby New Year and the Piano Man

He's been learning his numbers to 10, and he went on a trip to North Carolina to see his cousin Ethan. [Smile]

I forgot to save my favorite one! He was in the shopping cart last night, he was holding my keys up to his face and was 'playing' them like a trumpet. [Smile] Complete with sound effects. What a funny guy.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Some more Thomas! The first two are T mugging for the camera. This from the boy who used to never smile for pictures. He then grabs the camera so he can see what the picture looks like. The last one was from our sick day on Monday. Poor guy just wanted to cuddle and sleep. I knew he wasn't feeling well when he didn't even get up to go see Mommy when she came home. [Frown]

New Thomas Pictures, page 1
New Thomas Pictures, page 2
New Thomas Pictures, page 3

Starts with pictures from his trip to 'lina, where he tired out Maarten the pup yet again. On Saturday we went swimming...Yes, I went in the pool with him. Shocking, I know. Then he had brunch with the Easter Bunny and Elmo at a new restaurant downtown. He flirted shamelessly with the waitresses as usual. The day ended with a trip to the circus! He sat with rapt attention through the whole thing. Afterwards, he got to ride an elephant!

Sunday had a special surprise for Thomas...cousin Ethan was here! For weeks he's been telling us that the other chair at his table was for 'E'. Here is Thomas sharing his toys with his cousin. This is probably my favorite picture. [Big Grin]

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

[Big Grin] He loved having cousin E to play with. He was so careful with him!

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

[Angst] I think that Elmo is scary!

Yay for the circus, the elephant and toy-sharing! What a cutie! So...you going to have another one to nurture Thomas's big brother instincts? *grin*

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

I was more worried about the giant bunny, myself. [Wink] We were planning for another, but not for a while yet.

Thomas had an early birthday present this weekend...a Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine at the Medina Railroad Museum. My Thomas didn't seem to be too awake during the early part of the day, but that changed once we got there. [Smile] The first thing he saw was a giant LEGO Thomas! He very much enjoyed that. He got a tattoo on his hand, and played with a train layout.

After lunch, we got in line early so we could watch Thomas the Tank Engine arrive! We all get on board, and the ride begins. Finally, my buddy starts to perk up. Here is his Junior Engineer's certificate. Uncle Artie played Mister Conductor for the day, which is a perfect job for him. He's very funny and kids naturally take to him. Thomas was such a good boy all day. [Big Grin] I was very proud of him.

More pictures I didn't link to.
