He has now settled into his dorm. He spent last night alone in the room as his roommate did not arrive until this morning. The internet now works (Duh! [Wink] ) and he and his roommate have cable and a television. He has gotten everything from a soap box (the little kind [Wink] ) to speakers. His loft is set up and he is feeling pretty good. Thank-you all. [Big Grin]

[Big Grin] Congrats!

I don't leave until the 27th, but I'm getting quite excited to move into my apartment with my sister and three other friends.

Wow!! Cable and high speed internet in your DORM?! Sheesh, it must be a LONG time since I've lived in a dorm.

What school are you attending?

I don't move into my dorm until late September.

You forgot to mention the cockroaches. Surely you have cockroaches....

Enjoy, Hobbes!!!

Hobbes - you're at COLLEGE now!?!?!?!?

I feel like I've been caught in a black hole or something - you're just supposed to be 13 years old!

Are you sure you're old enough now to be at college?

I need a "little old lady graemlin" to insert right here.

Hobbes - one of my best friends is going to be freshman at Purdue too, he just moved in yesterday. His name is Jason Ford - I don't know if you'll run into him or anything, but if you did, that would be cool. Not that you know me, or anything, but still. He was complaining about the lack of air conditioning in his dorm, but was very happy about the internet connection. [Smile]

I'm moving in on the 27th, and my roommate will move in later. I have a question: is it okay for me to go ahead and pick my side of the room, or should I live from my boxes until my roomate comes?

Pick the side of the room you really want. If your roommate wanted to pick, she'd be there earlier. First come...

If she really has a problem with the side you leave, you can renegotiate that later.

Anyway, if you pick, at least one of you will be happy. Just don't do what some friends of mine did. One, assuming the others tastes were similar, took the "near the door" side in order to be nice and leave the "in the private corner side" for her roomie. Turned out the roomie would rather leave the door open so she didn't miss anything, and didn't stay in her corner and study anyway. The other one ended up trying to study with a lot of commotion going on, and felt in the way all the time. This didn't lead to a friendly relationship. It took them several weeks to talk and decide to switch. Both were relieved and grew to be good friends. Be assertive. Tell your roomie what you really want, or you won't get it. If you do speak up, there's at least a better chance you'll get what you want.

Hobbes, Congrats on the good internet service. You have a loft set up? Do you mean one of those things with a bed on top and a desk and dresser underneath? That would be good.

That's awesome, Hobbes! I hope university is as awesome for you as it has been for me [Smile]

(Which is pretty freakin' awesome, just so's there's no confusion [Wink] )

Don't worry about which side of the room you take. It really doesn't make a difference. Especially because the odds of you having a roomie who can keep all her things exclusively on her side are slim to none [Smile]

[Cool]

If you see a bunch of confused looking students wandering around campus, following other students in red shirts, I'll be the one in front with the sour look on my face trying to get everyone to move faster!!! [Mad]

I can see that picture very clearly <grin> [Razz]

My room has mold all over the ceiling and I am allergic to it, it's been quite a fun few days falling asleep on my other friends' floors. That's what I get for moving into the Honors floor, of course. [Roll Eyes]

I don't go back until Friday, and that's only to drop a load of stuff off, get my special keys, and hit up a few meetings. I move in for good on Sunday [Big Grin]

My cousin'll be a junior at Purdue. You'll never ever meet her... unless you plan on joining the equestrian team... right. So at least it's an interesting factoid [Smile]

*thinks about listing all the people she knows who go to Purdue*

*decides she doesn't have that much time*

Hobbes.

How many discrete divisions of space constitute your dorm?

Is it an expanding dorm?

Does it obey the usual constraints on dorms, i.e. can you travel faster than light in it?
[Dont Know]

At least you don't have a dead rat in the air conditioner/heater. (True story! Not to me, though)

X-14 works wonders on mold. Ask Mackillian.

Damn skippy it does. Underneath my sink is still mold-free. [Big Grin]

(I also had high-speed internet and cable in my dorm when in undergrad. [Smile] )

I move in teh 27th, very excited about my loft which I ordered today. Anyway, good luck Hobbes, and this is for you: [Big Grin]

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

eslaine, if Wolfram's right than there are about 10^44 partitions of space per meter. I don't know how big our dorm is, but I'd estimate that it's about 5 partitions by 5 partitions. [Razz]

We just got our loft in yesterday afternoon, and it was a hassle. It's really nice now though, lot more room. [Big Grin]
