I've only been here for 2 days and I'm already doing that. Does this mean I'll be forever trapped here?

Posted by Erik Slaine (Member # 5583) on :

I'm not addicted to Hatrack. I just enjoy it.

I can post often in Hatrack without ill effects, having built up a large tolerance.

The other day--well, I can't remember the other day, I was on Hatrack.

Hmmm...

:reads his own previous statements:

Where do I find HA (Hatracker's Anonymous)?

I could quit anytime I wanted.

If I wanted to.

I'm only here for the hors d'oeuvres.

It's been a long two and a half years, but I figure if I'm patient enough they will come to me.

. . . when you hit refresh more often than you blink.

. . . when you have THREE browser windows open with Hatrack in them. Two for the reason Ela mentioned, and a third just for Mafia.

. . . when you're all caught up with today's threads, and should be heading offline to do RL things (sleep, for instance), but you keep hitting refresh and hoping for someone to post.

I'm doomed!

All y'all need to get some form of high-speed connections. That way, you'll only have two Hatrack browsers open so you can check other threads while your posting in one. And of course, you'll need at least 5 other windows open for google research. [Wink]

Hors d'oeuvres and sweet, sweet Kayla love.

I use tabs and open several dozen (all that have been posted in since last time I was on, up to at most those on the first page).

Makes reading/browsing very easy (loading in the background is your friend).

Instead of doing the homework that you so desperately need to get done

You all need to get Mozilla. Tabbed browsing is key, and better than multiple windows.

Well, sure, but then if something uses java, it's all over [Wink]

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

You proofread something you've printed and are about to send out and you notice that you have brackets containing 'i' and '/i' around words instead of italicizing them.

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Actually, I've had very few problems with Java in Moz1.4.

*shrug*

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

You're probably right...I must confess that I am not a regular mozilla user. I've only played with the version they have here at school once or twice. I just know that's a common response to complaints of mozilla users by our webmaster.

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Schools are often reluctant to upgrade. They're likely running 1.0 or 1.1 .

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Except, if they are using Mozilla, they are pretty forward thinking, so I'd imagine they could research and upgrade.

-Bok

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Looks like they're using v. 1.3.1, but only on the mac OSX machines. I'm primarily a windows user, which is why I don't come into contact with it too often.

As for upgrading, well, IU stays with it, for the most part, when it comes to operating systems, but sometimes falls a version behind with some of the software. Then again, our computer lab builds have a RIDICULOUS amount of software, so I guess I can understand a little bit of lag in a rather infrequently-used browser.

heh...wow...I'm just a tad off-topic, aren't I?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

You are initially confused by dkw's post -- but that is how you italicize! [Wink]

...you constantly replace Saturday with Saudade.

...in normal conversations you occassionally say "bump" and "Cough 'weirdo' cough".

...you forget your work ID, come home to get it and log on to Hatrack, even though you said you wouldn't be doing that. But no one's home, so it's more tolerable.

...you post more than 5000 times in one year.

...you consider Pweb to be immature and orney to be for more mature audiences.

...you finally stop refering to hatrack as "these friends I know" and start using "the people I talk to over the internet."

...every 3rd post on every fluff thread is yours.

What's sad is that all of these apply to me. Well, off to work.

Megan, do you go to IU?

For me I mostly just glance at the thread titles on the 1st page anymore, even after my 3 day weekends when everything from Thursday is usually back on page 4. I'm just not as interested as I used to be.

Of course, the "let's bash Bush" thread craze has seemed to die down a little, so maybe we're back in an up-cycle where threads will start sucking me in.

I do make it a point to read Chris Bridges' latest column and the threads about it, even if I don't post about it.

You keep coming back to the forums over and over again- despite the fact that you have no vested interest in any particular thread- in hopes that you will find something interesting to read and post on. This is me at the current moment.

http://www.hatrack.com/forums is still the first thing I type when I log into any computer.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

When you have AIM on in one window, the front page of the forum in the next, a reply window for another thread open in another one, and a search going on in the other window to find a link for the reply you're composing...

and there are so many explorer windows open that your task bar can't handle them and condenses them into one drop down menu of explorer windows.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? It happened to me last night and I was baffled. [Wink]

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

Narnia, I hate when that happens...I try to avoid opening that many windows.

You can turn off the "collapse multiple windows into a single Explorer tab" option by right-clicking on your taskbar, choosing "Properties," and unchecking "Group similar Taskbar buttons."

I know this because I am a PROFLIGATE multitasker; at the present moment, I have 22 windows open, 13 of which are Internet Explorer sessions.

Wicked cool, Tom! Thanks. (Narina, that happened to me all the time! Do you have hidden cameras in my house?)

Posted by WheatPuppet (Member # 5142) on :

You know that you're a compulsive multitasker when you open an entirely new program while waiting for one to load, and then open another new program while waiting for that one to open.

I do that constantly, and if I don't, usually because I'm starting a game or something, I curse under my breath at how long it's taking.

You know your addicted to hatrack (and a computer geek) when you consider creating an elaborate Perl script that distils the information on Hatrack into a real-time and timely GUI. In other words creating a Hatrack computer program.

...you have 8 different lyrics sites on your favorites just for the Think of a Lyric thread.

...you spend slow days at work composing one-line descriptions of people.

...you start to count how many posts you have on the Begging the Question thread because you begin to think it might be more than half of your entire post count.

I actually did post this same topic twice, because I wanted to make changes, and instead of editing, I hit the back button, made the changes, than posted again. Than I went back and deleted the first post. [Big Grin]
