Now that we are in September, Autumn will be coming soon... One of my favorite things is the smell of fallen leaves on the ground, shortly after it has rained. I love that smell.

What do you love about Autumn?

Posted by Professor Funk (Member # 5608) on :

Leaves. And apples! MacIntosh apples grown locally for 69 cents a pound!

The smell of leaves, the sound of the wind through the trees, the last few crickets singing away, cool breezes, the colors that show up everywhere, watching migratory birds gather into huge groups and also seeing them fly past, sleeping with the windows open again, apples, pumpkins, Halloween decorations, squash, mums...everything!

Autumn is my very favorite season. I'm so glad it's almost here!

I'm fond of the sunsets here that surely resemble those on Mars.

I'm with you Vanna! I actually prefer early summer--say mid may through the last week in June--but fall is great.

The crisp, somehow almost intoxicating feel of the air, the smell of leaves, tinged with woodsmoke toward the end of the season, the tang of black walnuts decaying, the delicous chill in the morning, and the weak warmth of a patch of sunlight, that disappears with the slightest breeze--I love it. Really, though, there is no season that I don't love. I just delight in virtually every weather condition that doesn't actually hurt me (actually getting caught in a tornado, for example, doesn't appeal).

Autumn has always been the best time of year for me, holding out from when we all went to school and started a whole new era every year at this time. It is the time of Holidays and approaching holidays. Color and fog in my area, how I love it! The first rains clean the smoggy air.

I could gush about fall for hours! [Cool]

Returning to the NC mountains and seeing the rolling hilltops decorated by some mad genius who only uses the four warmest colors in the box of Crayolas.

The crisp scent of the air as Grandfather Winter starts butting heads with his unruly grandchildren, the Atlantic hurricanes. The first sparks of static electricity waiting for wool sweaters to be pulled off quickly before bed.

The taste of fresh, heavy apple cider, seasoned with summer days and a liberal amount of inadvertent yellowjacket pulp.

The warmth of pumpkin pie and the sound of a vat of oil boiling, waiting for the turkey to drop.

And most of all a season that makes hugging friends and family a warm and comfortable activity. Children burrowing in piles of leaves, the horse getting its first cold weather coat and the unceasing lines of Canadian geese trying to find someplace, anyplace but here, to spend the winter months.

I hate winter. [Mad]

Autumn is def. my favorite season. I love being able to snuggle under the covers of my bed, and not be sweltering hot. I love the red trees, and the fact that my brithday is coming up!

YEAH FOR AUTUMN!

I live in Florida. What's Autumn?

Cool breezes and that smell in the air. You know the one...

I love the afternoons, when its warm enough to go and hang outside with your friends (in my place, go out skateboarding) yet its cool enough that you're not sweating. Just hanging out. Sun is going down, everything feels fine.

...and here in sunny SoCal...

We don't need no stinkin' seasons!

Cool enough in the evening to play outside...

Though I grew up on the east coast, the golden aspens in Colorado are among my favorite autumn things.

I miss real seasons.

If anyone was wondering, this is the primary reason I'm moving to SoCal [Smile] .

The upstate NY fall season is awesome, but it only lasts until Halloween, when winter always rears its ugly head. Because of this, there is always an impending sense of doom in our autumn season.

Mist. I love mist in the mornings when it hangs low under the multicoloured trees and the sunlight streams diagonally through in golden beams.

Marvellous. Autumn is my favourite season, in Canada.

Edit: Badly constructed sentance (still irritating, but better)

I love lots of things about fall, but where did the summer go? It always slips away too quickly!

Here is a question for Tom and Christy... Have you guys ever ventured up to a town in Michigan called, Frankenmuth? I know you guys arent in Michigan but Frankenmuth is maybe a three hour drive from where you are.

It is an town where all the buildings are old german style, or bavarian. They have a really nice hotel that has wonderful food and its a great place to go to in Autumn or Winter.

I went one year as a young kid, maybe eleven, and I fell in love with the place. It is possible that it is not as nice as my child eyes imagined but I loved it. It was a great place for Autumn.

Fall is the New Year for me. Because I have always been a teacher, I have been on a school schedule my entire life, since my dad was a teacher.

Fall is new.
Fall is energetic.
Fall is crisp and clear.
Fall is joyful.

I love fall. In fall the air is cool without being cold, the skies are clear, and going outside is a pleasant experience. In fall school has just started and it's still fun; life is filled with friends, happiness, and high expectations. Fall is peaceful. [Smile]

I love fall, especially after the first cold snap, the one that kills the mosquitos and chases the snakes into the ground.

The days are cool but not cold, so you feel comfortable being outside all the time. I love the fall color, even though we don't get much here in Alabama.

Speaking of mosquitos, we've had four diagnoses of West Nile here. I know it's still way unlikely, but I still spray down my munchkins before they're allowed outside.

We do so have seasons. *tries to remember the order*

Is it earthquake, brushfire, mudslide, drought? Or is it earthquake, brushfire, drought, mudslide? I can never remember . . . [Wink]

My favorite thing about fall is the rain. Summer is nice with the hot and dry season, good for swimming, but nothing can beat a walk in a down pour. It's a sign that all is right in the world, as long as it is raining in Seattle.

Posted by screechowl (Member # 2651) on :

LOL, rivka

I like seasons, no matter which ones. I dislike the 100 degree windy days most. I like the unpredictable nature of weather, so I would not like to live where there is little variation.
