I'm not sure how many Hatrackers we have to are both Howard Dean supporters AND who live in the Baltimore/Washington area.....but if there are, and if you're interested, I'm going to the University of Maryland tomorrow for a Howard Dean rally. Dr. Dean will start speaking at 6:45 pm. If there are any of those who are going, let me know -- I'd love to meet you!!

Usually, out of context attributions of gatherings as "a den of stinking evil" are insults, not jokes. (since, there's no reason to attribute inherent good into a political gathering, calling it evil isn't ironic)

martha, I know a Dean campaign worker (intheir IT dept.), and he won't be visiting MA for ages. There's an unwritten rule that you don't campaign in another candidate's state until you have to.

I don't know if Hillary could handle being VP. I always feel like she's done that already...and would only settle for the big chair. But, it's going to be an interesting race, that's for sure.

Actuall, Hillary (IMHO) was much more than a Vice-president.
Usually, VP's are pretty much ignored. She had much more influence than a traditional VP would have.

I know you made a flippant remark, SW, but I'll go ahead and treat it as a serious comment, anyway.
Considering that Clarke he had a lot of officers cheering him when he recently criticized the war in Iraq, and considering that you have a lot of soldiers in Iraq who have criticized the president, I'm not sure your supposition that others will view his criticism as you do carries much weight. It would be interesting if the military turned against Bush, come the campaign. They're a segment of voters that everyone assumes are just these stupid, ignorant jerks who meekly go about their duty and blindly vote Republican when the time comes, but that is a pretty questionable supposition.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned in the 2004 elections is the UN. What if they stall aid to Iraq to make Bush look bad, to build resentment against him at home, and to send a clear message to the incumbent president?
People have been speaking of the economy as the key issue in the 2004 elections, but it seems clear to me that even without the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ashcroft could easilly be enough to sink the SS Bush. All it would take for Afghanistan to collapse would be the death of Karzai. Considering that he has been the subject of, what, six assassination attempts, this is not a far fetched scenario. Iraq doesn't look like it will clear up any time soon, and Ashcroft's ham-fisted war on terror can quite easilly be used against Bush. (Say, Mr. President, didn't you support no sunset clauses at all for any parts of the Patriot act? Haven't you been instrumental in seeing that parts of Patriot II are passed?)
