**Look to end of thread for more info***

Due to circumstances beyond her control, Belle will not be able to organize WenchCon this year. If it is to take place in Birmingham, as proposed, we will need someone in that area willing to find a hotel and make catering arrangements.

I am willing to do the legwork again this year, if people decide Atlanta would be okay, too. Though this year I plan to pick a hotel with an Airport shuttle, probably closer in to the city, for the sake of convenience.

Time is relatively short, though I didn't make final plans for last year until October or so.

If we do it in the Atlanta area, I will still need help with some things.
Also, I need to know the following from interested parties:
We had a lot of fun last year, and I don't want to let this opportunity fade away. But if interest is as widespread as it seemed, then I'm going to need HELP. Feel free to suggest alternate locations or whatever, but understand that if we do it in Madison or Kokomo, etc. that the resident Jatraqueros will have to do the planning, though I will still be glad to help out however possible. [Smile]

As convenient as I would find Madison, I'm not sure requiring Hatrackers to come NORTH for the winter is exactly charitable. [Smile]

Yeah, that was what Jenny Gardener said about Kokomo, though she WAS willing.

Maybe there's just not as much interest in it this year. [Dont Know]

Which days exactly are being considered? Sunday and Monday? Sat and Sun?

saturday and sunday, I believe.

Ken and I won't be driving this year(if he gets a job, he'll come) so airport shuttle=good.

I'm up for the extended version in a theater...ttt isn't as impressive on the TV anyway.

I could probly come up with hatrack pictionary, I'm not well versed in tolkien to do LOTR pictionary.

Olivet,

If you need some help with the t-shirts and managing the designs for CafePress, I can help with that. I can do some simple designs, but I am no where near as talented as some of the people on this forum. I have the use of Fireworks,Illustrator and Photoshop if needed.

I am still not sure I can make the WenchCon, but I would like to try. Still, I want to help out.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

That is so sweet of you! [Smile] You should see if Ladyday could send you her design, as i think we generally agreed that that was a good one. There were other good ones, but I'm not really sure who made them. Because I'm a dolt. But anyway...

kwsni-- that would be great!

I guess the South somewhere would be the kindest place to have a get-together in the worst part of winter. [Smile]

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

Of course I'll help. I'm great at coming up with themes and games. I'll put together an itinerary, once the crucial info has been decided upon (movie times, dinner plans).

Everyone who wants to go to WenchCon needs to speak up. What is your likely budget, your dietary preference, probable means of transportation, etc. Vote on the city and tell us what you most look forward to.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Most of the Madison-area people have expressed an interest, but a lot of us are intimidated by the distances and costs of flying down for a day or two; Christy and I, for example, would have to talk seriously about spending $500 on a weekend. [Smile]

Posted by Avadaru (Member # 3026) on :

WenchCon should be held in New Orleans. It's warm, fun, and most importantly, a mere 1 1/2 hours from me. ^^

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I'm game for that. Are you volunteering to make the arrangements?

Posted by fugu13 (Member # 2859) on :

Works for me, I still have a few relatives in the area.

Are males allowed?

Who else is an Atlanta area Jatraquero?
You are the only one I've noticed, Olivet. Plus somebody had a relative in Alpharetta, mentioned in chat. Forgive me if I've overlooked you, I can't look at 1000 profiles. But yes, we should have it here. Or Birmingham, which is close. New Orleans would be my third choice.

If we have it here I can do some local logistics, not sure what.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I'd be grateful for any help, Morbo. We actually had , erm, Two fellas last year. Rakeesh and Psycho Triad.

In the absence of anyone volunteering to organize it in another city, I guess Atlanta would be it.

If no one has suggested another place and expressed willingness to take over the organization in the next few days, I may be begging you to help me find an appropriate hotel, etc.

Do you know if there's a theater that will be showing the Extended Editions, or has that been announced yet?

Catering: if it was Wendy's, I'd eat it and enjoy it. If it was a 80 dollar deal, I'd eat it. I don't care. Food... good.... mmmm....

Hotel Arrangements: Again, don't care. You tell me when and where, and I'm there like hair on a darierre. Fair?

Games: doesn't matter, I'll still kick your butt. Except in LotR trivia. I know my limitations.

Olivet, why don't we see if a consensus emerges for Atlanta?

First, someone has to be a local in a city and take on some hosting/logistics duty. Then we could vote among the people who want to come, I guess. Seems like the Southeast is possibly a consensus?

I don't know if you can find out theatre listings this far in advance.

I don't care where we meet, as long as I can drive there in (hopefully a bit less than) a day. Dan and I cannot afford to fly. But we can afford to take a little time off of work. [Smile]

And, I'm so used to the winters, I don't care if it's north or south (though of course warmer is more fun).

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

There's always the "renting a van to pick up people in Chicago and drive down" approach, but we'd have to share costs. It's about 11.5 hr trip.

If I arranged this, we could pick up anyone at points in southern Wisconsin, upper Illinois, most of Indiana, and middle parts of Kentucky & Tennessee.

Of course, my husband would be convinced that I'm insane, and I can't be sure yet whether I'll be on call. And, if we add stops, YMMV.

Well, let's make it Atlanta again, since nobody has volunteered to host it elsewhere. Maybe we could do some sort of summer thing in Madison? That would be cool.

I'm going to look for Hotels with airport shuttle, I guess. Even if most of you drive, I hate the thought of either having to make multiple trips to the airport or making somebody wait for hours at the airport. Bleh.

So, er, Morbo-- know any good caterers? We MAY have people coming who need kosher or vegetarian vittles. I'm betting vegetarian would be the simplest choice.

Posted by Ophelia (Member # 653) on :

I am planning on going (which means I better get my butt tutoring people to make some extra cash pronto!).

I have no extra-special dietary needs. Vegetarian sounds great, though, since I do generally prefer vaguely healthy foods.

I'll probably be flying. (Definitely if it's in Atlanta, but if it changes to New Orleans or somewhere else nearer Houston I would consider driving.) But I don't have a huge problem waiting around in airports, if you can't find somewhere with a shuttle. I've gotten very good at quietly amusing myself.

Budgetarily, the cheaper the better is generally the case, but I can always round up extra cash from somewhere, so it's not a huge issue. Just no five-star hotels or anything.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Last year I got us a deal where we could have up to four to a room to split the $70.00 a night cost. I think it was a Holiday Inn.

It worked out pretty well because most of us had met met before, but Rakeesh and Ladyday were by themselves. Ladyday by preference and Rakeesh because, gosh darn it, there just were not any other unaccompanied males to share the cost.

I think I MAY be able to do better this year, with the caveat that it is a holiday weekend. So you never know.

Posted by Morbo (Member # 5309) on :

My sister knows caterers. I could ask her.
Is it really Atlanta now?

Posted by ana kata (Member # 5666) on :

Ophelia, who are your butt tutoring people and how do you get them to make extra cash for you?

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

Well, I don't have a problem splitting a 4-way hotel room with Rakeesh now that I know him. Just as long I get Olivia in bed. [Evil]

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I said I was going to wait a few days to see if anyone else volunteered, and nobody did.

However, I'm willing to give it up at any point before I have to actually pay deposits on the meeting room and the catering.

Thing is, we need to get it in the works, if people are going to get good rates and be able to plan accordingly.

But I'm open to alternate cities , etc. at least until mid-October. So if somebody really wants it, it's theirs. I was hoping not to have to handle it two years in a row, so I'd be more than happy to let anybody else take over.

Jenny, I have not seen Rakeesh around in ages, but I think we were planning to bunk mackillian with him. [Evil]

And we really should room together again, since, by hook or by crook we WILL go dancing this year. Actually, we should plan on rooming with others who want to go dancing, too, so we'll all be out together and not waking up people when we come in. Plus, I plan to sleep as much as humanly possible in the week prior, hoping that I will need less while we're all together. [Party]

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

[Party] YEAH!! Who wants to room with the party grrrls? WenchCon is gonna rock! Don't forget to bring your costumes, action figures, and other paraphenalia. The friend who made my cloak is going to help me figure out how to make hairy feet for this year.

I like CT's idea of a Hatrack Van (what a great road trip that would be!). It might be a challenge to work out timing, though. I only have a 3-day weekend if I'm working. Still, for cost considerations, it might be an option. I wonder if we could meet somewhere halfway between Midwest and Deep South, like maybe Kentucky or Tennessee? That would be even more drivable.

But I guess the default is Atlanta. Don't wait too long, Olivia. I want to lock in airplane tickets!

Well, if I told, then everyone would want butt tutoring people, and I'd have to share the money. [Wink]

(And once again everyone in the library is giving me a funny look because I'm laughing so hard.)

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Well, where are most of the Hatrackers interested in this thing currently located? It DOES make little sense to go to Atlanta if we've only got one Atlanta representative; it's about as far from central to everyone as it's possible to be without being Florida.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Some interested parties are in Florida, and a couple on the East coast. Ralphie has expressed an iterest, and she'd in Portland, I think.

Most everyone else is in the middle somewhere.

Jenny was willing, but her town is a ways away from the nearest big airport. Shutle arrangements could be made.

It comes down to who is willing to take the reigns. As I've said, I was kinda looking forward to NOT planning everything this year, because last year It took me a while to relax because I wanted it to go well, and fretted over the details up to the LAST minute.

Besides, I'm the LAST person anyone could accuse of having 'organizational skills'. Like multitasking, it does NOT come naturally to me. [Smile]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Dallas is central vertically if not horizontally. Also, I'll bet Bob would be part of the deal then.

Olivet, why no Belle? It won't even be WenchCon without her.

Kat, just too much other stuff going on at the moment. I guess she might be able to come if it wasn't too far, but she told me not to plan on it, so I'm not.

So, Boon, Kat, are either of you up to it? You just need to find a hotel that will give us a good rate (hopefully with an airport shuttle) and a meeting room with a TV and dvd player. Unless you have a local theater that's playing all of them, and we want to do it that way. So, if you host it, it's up to you. [Smile]

Olivia, reins, not reigns...please oh please. You ARE bringing the action figures, right?

Becky lost her job yesterday, so she doesn't know if she'll be able to fly, but we'll have two drivers this year, so we might be able to drive again.

Wow. [Smile]

That is so cool!

So, where in Texas are you? [Wink]

larisse has generously offered to handle the t-shirt stuff through Cafe Press. That might give us a little cash for the meeting room, etc.

What you should do, katharina, is call around to hotels in your area, and ask to speak to their manager or event planner. Find out what they can offer as far as group rates, and what kind of deal they can make on a meeting room. We found the meeting room to be a good choice for us, because it was a neutral place for everyone to be together without being in someone's room. Not that it really mattered after we'd gotten to know each other, but you know.

Some hotels will make the meeting room free if we book enough rooms, etc. It would be cool if they have a free shuttle to and from the airport, 'cause last year I spent a lot of time driving back and forth to the airport. Or you could just let those flying in make their own arrangements.

Send me an email (since I know you don't do AIM anymore) if you have questions. Basically, it's up to you. Just try to find a good deal on the rooms for us, and recruit people to do stuff for you. Last year ladyday made marvy nametags for us all, and Belle did the LotR/Hatrack pictionary (which was LOTS of fun).

kwsni-- I have been doing that a lot lately-- reigns reins, due do, etc. [Embarrassed] I WILL be bringing action figures. Jenny Gardener has some nifty costumes to share, but people can bring their own, too. I have a plastic Sting, etc.

I am also looking for someone to make me an Arwen dress. Specifically the one with the blood red sleeves. I have been granted a sizeable budget (sizeable for a single dress, anyway).

Either Dallas or Atlanta, depending on price and who can make it.

I'm pretty sure I can get us the same rate per room as last year, but probably not better, considering that it is a holiday weekend.

katharina is checking out prices in the Dallas area, and we're gonna see what works best for those who want to come. Final decision by the 15th okay?

So, please state your preferences, people. We don't want to throw a party and have nobody come. [Wink]

Since nobody can decide a place in the USA, I suggest Ontario- either Toronto or London. I can get great rates at hotels, and can get catering super cheap (I'm a culinary student now- I'm developing lots of connections). The local theater is offering all three movies, and it's out of the way for most everybody, so it makes it very fair *grins*. And if we can't make it to the local theater or if it's decided this is preferible, I can borrow my brother's big screen tv or perhaps one of my schools projecter thingies and we can pretend we're in the movie theater [Wink]

*giggles*

Ok, so far, this is how I'm seeing things:

Jan 16-19th
Atlanta (or Dallas, though looks like the voting for Atlanta outnumbers Dallas)
Gather, meet, rock out, party, stay at hotel, watch RotK, rock some more, scare hotel attendents.

Posted by raventh1 (Member # 3750) on :

Hmm, I'm still thinking about coming, location doesn't matter to me honestly.
It does look as though Atlanta is "popular".
So can I count on 16-19th of Jan?

Anything that we should bring in particular? *other than ourselves, and clothing. :-P*

I'm still quite undecided at this point, knowing that there was a set place and date would help though, and I think it would help others to say Yay/Nay as well.

Here are a list of suggestions of things to bring:

LotR's action figures. If you are a guy, I suggest bringing some of the Female Characters.

Someone is going to have to bring it, or it won't be done: orange tights. You guys work it out.

Money. Lots of good spending money goodness.

The essentials: toothbrush, toothpaste, anything you don't trust a hotel to provide you with.

Camera of some sorts, cause you gonna wanna 'member this.

Things you want to show off... like... a sword. Come on, try to bring a sword onto a plane. Please?

I'm so sorry I have been out of the loop for a bit, but the good news is tI have a hotel (Details coming when the deal is confirmed in writing).

MLK weekend it is and in Atlanta, by the votes. So thee you have it. Hope to post more details after the mail runs.

Oh, and we will probably dress in costume to go to the movie, or else go somewhere in costume. The RotK viewing should be Saturday evening, after dark, and most other activities will be at the hotel on Saturday-- so Sabbath restrictions should be okay.

I'm still scouring for a good caterer, but when I have it, I'll give y'all a per person figure for lunch on Saturday.

Morbo, do you know any good local caterers? We'll need some kosher or vegitarian stuff, maybe someone who does great salads?

OH! And I just got LotR Movie Trivial pursuit! I have not played it yet, and probably won't get to anytime soon, but I did open it up and go all fangurly on the pieces. [Blushing]

I hope to collect some nice little things to give as prizes. It won't be much, but it WILL be something.

The flight plan that I'm looking at has me arriving at 4:50 Atlanta time. Does that work out?

Also, lets start talking hotel prices. How much do you need from each of us in that sense?

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

The hotel reps that I have been dealing with seem to be having trouble getting me the agreed upon price in writing. [Wall Bash]

Um, I'm trying to get a hotel that has local shuttle service. Ron said the ones with Airport shuttles were either out of our price range or not in great parts of town, so I am working with a hotel that will pick you up at the local MARTA station. You can take MARTA from the Airport. It will be cheap.

If it doesn't pan out this week (I'm getting angry, folks) I'll try to get the same hotel we did last year, though some of you will just have to be on your own when it comes to getting there from the airport. That is my LAST resort option, though.

I plan to give you guys a per-person lunch fee and per person cost for the meeting room. The block of rooms will be reserved at that price (which I'm hoping to get $70.00 a night, up to 4 people per room again this year, though I had negotiated a bit less (not including tax) but I'm gonna let you make your own roomie arrangements and I'll give you the 800 number for the hotel so you can make individual reservations within that block.

The "WenchCon" fees will just include Saturday lunch (hotel has free breakfast, and dinner will be unstructured, and up to you) and part of the meeting room. That's all.

I'll post the details when I have them.

If I HAVE to go with a hotel that can't pick you up at the airport, I'll be there on Friday evening to pick up as many as will be in town by 7 or 8pm. But , by God, it had better not come to that! [Wink]

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

T, what that means is the hotel cost will depend on how many people you room with (one person $70.00 per night, 2 people $35.00 per night, 3 people $23.33, 4 people $17.50 per night) but the specifics will have to wait until I get the hotel room prices in writing.

You guys will be responsibel for your own room bills, but I'll ask for a registration fee to cover the meeting room, lunch on Saturday, and prizes for the games.

Olivet, you rock. [Smile] Thanks for all your hard work!

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

Olivet you are HardCore Awesome!

Btw, I like the sound of that 4 person rooming thing. 4 days, 3 nights, usually 2 beds per room, eh? Well, I don't mind sleeping on the floor one or two of those nights, if needed.

Is there anyone who wants to bunk with yours truly? I promise I don't snore... loudly. Ralphie will be able to back me up on that after the 14th.

Posted by Morbo (Member # 5309) on :

Olivet, I just e-mailed my # to you, sorry I forgot to last week. Try to call AFTER 9pm, because of my cell phone plan, or on weekends. A short call during the day is OK, but expect me to be abrupt to save minutes. We can also use AIM and e-mail, of course.

I have a couch and floor-space available to who ever wants it/claims it. The couch will be first-come/first served.

Yes, I have some catering contacts. Don't close the deal on that without talking to me. I worked at a Jewish deli/pizza place, not sure if they did catering. How many meals are we talking about? Just Saturday lunch? How elaborate? How much are folks willing to shell out??

I know nothing about hotels and have no contacts there. Are we looking for a meeting room? I MIGHT have one we could get cheap. I would have to check. Or are we going to go to your house. My apartment is too small for a large group, I think.

This is going to be great!.

OMG, Morbo!1 I'm SO glad you mentioned that you emailed me!

I had delted the email without opening it, assuming it was someone suggesting ways to enlarge my penis or something. I get a lot of those. Sort of makes me wonder if they know something I don't. [Eek!]

Anyways, I'll try to call you tonight.

Meanwhile, those interested in attending should email me at olivet@bellsouth.net with Wenchcon in the title so I can make sure to reserve enough rooms for everyone. I'm thinking 10-15 rooms, since some folks will not want to share (couples and such). But let me know, so I can give Morbo a rough estimate of food needs.

Also, if people are planning on staying until Monday, I would like to get an idea what you might be up for on Sunday. I'm negotiating a couple of special trips to the airport by the hotel van, so I need to know when folks will be leaving, too.

I found a better deal!

It's in the same area as last year, but they only charge $25.00 a day for the meeting room (about the same size). Even with the AV stuff being an extra charge, it's still a better deal. And I could bring my own TV and dvd player to save money.

They will also let us use their breakfast room for the catered lunch on Saturday. It won't be elaborate, but I think we can get some simple dishes (and some salad and kosher pizza for our kosher wenches-- Morbo knows a place that's kosher).

The rooms all have broadband internet access for free, microwaves, little fridges and coffee makers. This hotel has a spa, and is close to some neat entertainment places, etc. AND! The cost per room is six dollars cheaper per night!

Ron found this hotel, so I must pause to sing his praises. *sings* Ron is the bestest hero! And I love him! WooHoo!

Last year their meeting room was $125.00 per day and their hotel rooms were more expensive, too. It is a REALLY nice place.

No Matt the night manager, but we could ask him to come by...

But before they will make the final plans, I need an idea how many rooms to reserve. So email me asap, or post here EVEN IF YOU ARE ONLY CONSIDERING COMING. The block of rooms will be held until two weeks before the event, so you will have plenty of time to make up your mind.

And I MAY be able to work up a schedule for airport pick-ups/drop offs with their limo company. It's $40.00 for the first person plus $5 for each additional person and 20% off the return trip. So, if five people ride together, that's a $12.00 ride, per person. And the trip back, same arrangemet, would only be $9.40 per person, which is cheaper than a cab ride. Much.

Depends on how many are flying, though.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I need a show of hands for those mildly interested to committed. Even if it's just a remote possibility, and you won't know for certain for weeks, I still need to know.

Cause I don't want to just reserve the block o' rooms for those I know are coming. I have to work a little wiggle room into it.

[Smile]
Thanks!

I have LotR Trivial Pursuit! [Smile] And a couple of other games that might be fun.

Also, I hope to have SOMEONE volunteer to do some Pictionary things, like last year.

I'm so excited at all the 'maybe's!!!

Katharina, Ophelia-- all you guuys I'd so love to meet in RL!

As to the couples coming... If a couple knows another couple well enough, you could still share a room with another couple or whatever, and save money. I know Lime and Vana are newlyweds and all...

But if somebody knows Tom and Christy, and there's going to be a carpool or something... Geez I wish they could come, too.

Ha! Listen to me-- I'm getting all greedy! [Wink]

I'll call with a tentative number of rooms and stuff by Friday, so that early next week I should be able to break down costs for the Meeting room and lunch on Saturday. I'm hoping to keep any registration fees low, so the more possible attendees the less it will take 'per' to cover one day's lunch and the meeting room for two days.

The movie will have been out long enough that we should be able to buy the tickets online on Friday for a Saturday evening showing, so that doesn't need to be an up-front charge, unless you'd rather.

Also, if anyone prosperous wants to donate to a fund to help some cash-strapped Hatrackers with little stuff, let me know. I plan to have a smallish slush fund to help with unexpected expenses, too. Of course, That all depends on how much stuff ends up costing.

WARNING:

As an officially rated fencer as of Sept 20, 2003, it is my duty to warn all WenchCon victims, err, i mean, Gatherers, that instead of silly broom sticks.. there will be much better swords to fence with.. as well as a free lesson from yours truly.

I will probably bring my own gear, along with 2-3 other sets, 2 righties, and a leftie. If need be, someone can use mine in the case of a leftie VS leftie. Expect no mercy, but a very fun time.

Suggest anyone who wants to learn how to fence to have a pair of pants in which they can move around in. Jeans would work.. just wouldn't want anyone to get hurt. Oh and normal shoes (non-sandals/fancy shoes)

yeah thats much over my few words posted per month average, so i'm gonna flee back into the shadows and lurk some more. [Hat]

Olivia-

It was a pleasure meeting with you this morning. The following is the contract we had discussed. I hope this is easy to understand. The only thing I may need to change will be if you want me to change the dispersement of rooms, such as if you need more double bed rooms, or more kings. (NDD1 is the room with two double beds, and NK1 is the king, both nonsmoking; let me know if you need smoking, or they can tell me when they call in). Also, please note the cancellation dates. The individuals can call in up to the 5th, and cannot cancel after the 9th. If less rooms are used than held in the block, please let me know by the 9th and I will release them. If you do not, they will be charged to your credit card. Please let me know if there are any changes I need to make. Please feel free to call me with any questions, or email me.

You will need to tell her whether you want a room with a single king size bed or a room with two doubles, and whether you want smoking or non-smoking. I think all the ones blocked off are currently non-smoking, but that should not be a problem to change.

YOU must reserve the room before January 5th and you may cancel by January 9th, when I will call to release all the blocked but unused rooms. I will be very put out if I get stuck paying for a no-show room, though I will be happy to use excess funds (if there are any) to help those who run short.

Olivia, sorry we haven't talked yet. I forgot to call this weekend.
I have yet to talk to my little sister, she's the one that knows caterers. But in any case, I will call tonight or you call me, after 9pm.

Good going on the hotel. Is a meeting room part of the package?

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I have to talk to her abot the meeting room, 'cause she said $25.00 a day on the phone for the meeting room, instead of the $35.00 a day that was on the proposal. Also, I had $69.00 per room, even with four people, though this contract suggests that for 2-4 people it would be $76.00 (which is still only one dollar more than the other hotel).

I have emailed her to straighten out the bumps, but that should work out okay.

Plus, the hubby just informed me that his best friend's wife does some catering. DUH. I had no idea. [ROFL]

The hotel also has a spa/ hottub sort of thing, and a work-out room that we'll have access to, and they said the fencing lessons would be okay on the deck or in the meeting room. [Smile]

Well, in the vein of this cool news, I want to remind you guys that the poll for the official WenchCon T-shirt will be closing at midnight EST on Nov. 11th. (I extended the voting due to that small debacle with the polling program earlier.) So, get your voting in if you have not already done it.

If I'm in the country then (which it's looking like I may be), then I will plan on coming. Toretha and Lacey are planning to come here first, and we're going to invite Mayday too, but haven't seen her yet to ask. Also Saudade and Andrei are planning to join us. Then all of us from this group will drive over Saturday morning and drive back late Saturday night. [Smile] So we won't be needing any rooms. (This deal is in Atlanta now, right? Bernard said he thought it was going to be in Texas.) Woo hoo! I'm looking forward to meeting all my sisters and grandminions! [Smile]

I got MLK weekend off! WOOHOO! We are in. [Big Grin]

Now we just have to figure out how to get there. The cheapest flights my husband found online so far were $211, which adds up times 3 people. So we are thinking about driving. If anyone knows where to find a cheaper flight let us know.

Any Florida people interested in carpooling?

Okay, I got it cleared up. The meeting room will be $25.00 a day, and the hotel room price will be $69.00 for 1-4 people. Turns out Kelly had lost her notes on what she had promised me. I'm signing the contract today, and we should be able to make reservations by Monday.

As it stands, the block includes 8 rooms with two double beds, and 8 rooms with one king size bed. I'm thinking that we might do better with 12 rooms with two doubles and 4 rooms with a king size bed, but it depends on how many couples who want to come will want a private room.

Any thoughts?

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

The contact infor to reserve a room is as follows:

Wingate Inn- Town Center 560 Greers Chapel Drive Kennesaw, GA 30144

Phone: (770) 514-7344 Fax: (770) 514-1689

It will be $69.00 a night for up to four people. You must reserve your room by January 5th to get that rate. I will release the unused rooms in the block by January 9th, so I don't get stuck paying for unused rooms.

I know at least one person will be flying in in the AM and one probably late PM.

Liam has gymnastics until noon, so it will be about 1:30 before I could get to the airport. MARTA also offers cheap ground transportation from the airport to my part of town. It is clean and safe, but maybe not the best choice if you have a lot of luggage.

Who else is flying in, and when will you be arriving? I was hoping to make one trip if possible, and maybe beg Morbo to make one as well.

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

I have the option of 4:00 or 6:15 your time.

Although, for an extra 100 bucks, I could arrange to be by 1:30. What that means is more people have to be conned into AOL for me to get some bonus money.

So... sign people up for AOL, or arrive by 4:00.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Oh, and lumping your arrivals would be really good for me, as it would mean either fewer trips to the airport for me or less waiting around for you. [Smile]

Mobo (whose phone number I have lost in my recent magnetic interference with my hard drive, hint, hint) said he'd help out if someone came in at an odd time for me to get them, but he has less room in his vehicle than I do. Either way, we'll work SOMETHING out, even if I have to use the t-shirt money to help with cabs instead of the meeting room.

I actually have this weird thing where I dislike sleeping in hotel beds, anyway, and would rather sleep on the floor. So I could be your assigned bedmate but you could still have your own bed. [Smile]

Olivet, I am making my travel plans based on the assumption that most of our "planned" (as opposed to impromptu [Razz] ) activities will be taking place on Sat.

Is that a correct assumption?

I think we were planning on catered lunch (kosher, of course), some pictionary, playing with costumes, and with action figures.

Ken and I are making our reservations this weekend probly, so anyone still without a roomate, speak up.

Ni!

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

Good! That means the Carpool is ON! I am bringing a suitcase full of costumes, so if you want one, speak for it soon.

We have the following available:

1 Gandalf ensemble
1 Gimli ensemble
2 Orc masks
3 or 4 Nazgul faces
Several black cloaks to go with Orc/Nazgul outfits
7 elf-grey cloaks for the rest of the Fellowship

Anyone using these costumes must promise my mother to take good care of the costumes and return them in excellent condition! [Party]

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

How about an ent costume? You don't happen to have any of those, do you?

I'll probably end up borrowing one, but since I don't really mind which one, I'll let others have their pick first. Thanks Jenny.

Here's the deal:

I thought Friday evening, since most folks will be arriving on Friday, we'd have a sort of informal, get to know ya sort of thing. Maybe play some games and whatnot. Dining will be catch as catch can, maybe some of us will order something from the take-out taxi, or whatever.

Those who arrive early will be pressed into service decorating, etc. [Wink]

Saturday, we'll have do the hotel's free continental breakfast (or I assume most of us will, though it won't be required, of course) and watch FotR:EE before lunch.

Lunch will be fairly simple. My tentative menu is lasagna (vegetarian and regular) with a nice salad and some bread. The dessert is yet to be determined, but I'm hoping it will be very good. [Wink]

After lunch will be the TT:EE veiwing. Following that, we'll have time to kill playing games and getting in costume for the group viewing of RotK.

I am assuming that it will have been out long enough by then that we will not need to reserve seating, provided we arrive with a bit of time to spare (That's how it worked last year, and that was a good two weeks earlier in TT's run).

That means we'll buy our own tickets individually at the time of the show.

Plan on a registration fee of about $10.00 per person. The catered lunch will be $5.00 per person or thereabouts, and the other five dollars will cover the cost of the meeting room, prizes for the games and incidentals (I hope to have a small fund to help people with unexpected expenses, but that depends on t-shirt, etc. sales at CafePress).

If you don't stay at the hotel but eat with us, the cost will still be the same. I hope to nail down an exact figure this weekend, so that I can give the people who register in advance a lower fee than at the door (like amybe $6-7.00 per instead of $10.00).

I'll nail that down by the weekend, as soon as the last caterer gets back to me with a price.

After seeing RotK, we'll probably have action-figure time and late-night giggle session, if last year is anything to go by.

Sunday, I was hoping to get Ken to do his thang with the fencing. Also, U.S. Play is across the parking lot from the hotel, so there should be plenty of fun options.

I welcome any suggestions for activities or changes to this agenda, though of course nobody HAS to do everything. Last year my sis and I went shopping during FotR:EE, and she went straight to bed when we got back from the theater after TT. At some point Jenny and I are going dancing this year, so we're pretty flexible within that framework.

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

Yes, we absolutely must go dancing. And even though the Sexy Boots aren't very comfortable, I'll probably wear them. I shall drink nothing but virgin Bloody Marys and get absolutely drunk on the beat and the music!

Ah, what a fine time we shall have. I am bringing my own action figures this year.

Anne Kate, are you guys going to stay the night Saturday? It might be a long trip. I mean, if we watch the movies EE on Saturday, and wait for an after-sundown showing of RotK, then it might be a late trip back. If you and Toretha, Lacy Saudade and Andrei share a room (somebody might get the floor, but I could arrange a bedroll or cot, I think) then one night wouldn't be too expensive if you split it up.

Going back to B'ham that late might not be a good idea, though I admit my suggestion is made partly just to have ya'll around longer. [Wink] [Smile]

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

mack, I'm not a huge fan of lasagna either, and I'm on a diet that eschews pasta. But it seemed like the lowest common denominator.

I am open to other sugestions until the end of next week.

SO, SPEAK UP, ATTENDEES! What would you eat?

In other news: My sister was less than pleased with sharing a room with me last year. She must have complete darkness to sleep. She needs more sleep than I do, and will go to bed early. This is a good thing. The Wicked Witch of the West has nothing on my sister when she's cranky. [Smile]

So, as a compromise, I'm trying to get two rooms with a connecting door, so that all the loud and rowdy people can stay up being rowdy in one room, and the early-to-beds can have the other. "Her" room still needs 2-3 other people (or more if the floor will do).

My sister is a lot like me, other than the sleep thing. Little older, little shorter. And with an advanced degree and a big bustline. So, essentially she's nothing like me. Okay, then. Hmm.

Anyway, she's cool with sharing. I'll call and see if I can get two adjacent rooms, and let you know.

Jenny, the easiest way to do hairy feet would be to find your nearest costume shop and buy a coil of fake hair and a bottle of spirit gum. In high school I was into stage makeup (and stage fighting, although strangely I didn't apply my skills in either of these fields to my school's theatrical endevors), and was able to get the hair thick enough to look good as a werewolf pelt, so hobbit feet shouldn't be a problem.

Noemon, I can do that, I mean, make her own personal feet look hairy. Thing is, if we're going to the theater in costime, IN JANUARY, she prolly doesn't want to be actually bare foot. *sigh*

I can call around to the costume shops, I just don't know what would be warm enough...

Well I don't know how many in the chicago area clump are coming other than CT. But I know that for me driving is pretty much out because it takes too long and I lack vacation time.

I know Vana and Lime were thinking of it as were xnera and Tom and Christy (though maybe things have changed with the impending baby)

(somehow I totally missed Lime's post on this page! it was a mousing error.)

kwsni, is your offer to drive me still open? Like I said I just plain feel bad comitting before I take finals but I think I will come.

Hobbes [Smile]

Yep. I think the idea was to have Jenny pick you up, and meet us in indianapolis.
Lime and Vana, we're picking people up in Indianapolis, and we do have a minivan, which only has four spots reserved at the moment. So we've got room for two more.

Ni!

Lime and Vana, you are welcome at my house. I am taking Friday off. I haven't worked out time details with kwsni and hobbes yet, but I'm sure you'd be welcome in the carpool. Oh my, but is THIS going to be fun!

Hobbes - can you hitch a ride to Kokomo, or will I need to come get you? You are certainly welcome to spend Thursday night if you need - we have a single bed in an extra bedroom, right next to the downstairs bath.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

I seriously doubt I can get a ride to Kokomo, I can get myself to the Indy airport but that's about it. [Embarrassed]

If that doesn't work I understand, but I don't think I can make anything else work without taking a rather long bike ride [Wink] .

Furry feet - I want Hobbit Feet. Only, I don't have big toes. My feet are very ugly - almost rectangular, and skinny. I do have some dark, coarse hair on my toes. Icky. I am unwilling to go to a movie in bare feet. They'd kick me out. Thus, a sandal-type option is most likely. I have a friend who is willing to help me create the feet, if we only had something to go on.

Posted by Jenny Gardener (Member # 903) on :

Heck, you're only about an hour away. I'll come fetch you. Let's pow-wow with kwsni and see what timing is.

That's over an extra hour of driving, I don't want to make you do that!

Hobbes [Smile]

if ken ever comes back with my car, he'd be a helpful addition to this conversation.

I also think this would be easier over AIM, but that'd probly be better after Finals are over.

Jenny, that would be fantastic! Where are you located?

Email me or Vána addresses and times and such, and we'll get something worked out!

Olivet - I don't know if anyone's talked to Xnera. I haven't spoken to Tom or Christy. We're going to be driving (hopefully carpooling).

You know, if you can find a good costume shop, it's entirely possible that they'd have some fake oversized feet that could be worn over shoes. With the popularity of LOTR over the past three years, it seems entirely possible.

For a few brief minutes I thought that I was going to be able to make this. Then I realized that it wasn't in late Dec. afterall. Too bad.

Mack, 11pm is my sister's usual expiration, and she will most likely sleep in (until after 9am, maybe).

I sort of plan on being just short of hallucinating from sleep deprivation when this shindig is over. [Smile] I was last year.

Was that suggested at some point, narrativium? If so, I must have missed it. We like sushi, too, but there would have to be vegetarian stuff for Sarah, who doesn't do raw fish. But sushi would probably be rather expensive...

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

And raw.

Did I mention raw?

That means uncooked.

Raw.

Ew.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

The trouble with sushi is that it's expensive. We could let you guys order some on the day, and pay for it yourselves (I'm not above picking it up, or whatever), but I can't order it ahead of time and have people not want to eat and/or pay for it. Last year I could have afforded that risk, but this year I just can't.

We could all just order from the takeout taxi, I guess. They have a limited menu for several restaurants, and they go by and pick it up for you, with a nominal surcharge.

At this point, I have not actually contracted with a caterer, so let me know. [Smile]

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

It would be better if we don't actually have to do the ordering on Sat, for those of us who are Sabbath-observant, so the "takeout taxi," whatever that is, would probably not work for us on Sat.

**Ela**

could you look at it the day before and tell us and we'll do the ordering?

Mack, no one's going to be staring at your body. We're going to be up to our necks in bubbles. And you can bring a fluffy bathrobe for when you get out. After a long, hard look out our personal finances, Vana and I have decided that we can't afford to come to Wenchcon. We just can't do it. [Frown] [Cry] [Cry]

We have resolved, however, to come to the next one - come hell or high water. (There is gonna be a next one, right? I mean, just 'cause the movies are all out doesn't mean we can't all paaaaaartaaaay?)

Also, if any of the Illinois/Wisconsiners that can't go to Atlanta want to get together and have a mini-Con, we'd be glad to arrange that. Anyone? Email me!

Well Lime, the 10% won out and I ended up in you and Vana's court. Just can't justify the finances. One last medical bill came through that I had forgotten about, making a larger dent than I anticipated in the old bank account. So if you and maybe Tom and Christy want to come hangout in Chi-town we can have a mini-con and call everybody that is actually there to say hi. You are more then welcome!

I'm sorry to hear that you guys can't make it. [Frown]

My sister may be bringing her daughter, and another buddy of mine from NC is coming, so I may need to reserve another room?

Also, my grandmother died this morning. We knew it was coming, and all, but things to do with the party have not been foremost in my mind.

But things will be back to normal soon, and everything should be finalized. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys. I know it will be fun.

Might be a good idea. xnera is coming too, and fugu is not. So hobbes is going to stay with the boys, and xnera with me and ophelia and your sister...but if she's bringing her daughter and another NC friend is coming, we might need another room.

Hey, the "guy's room" is evidently NOT booked yet. Actually, the two I booked and Ela's room are the only ones Kelly at the hotel has reserved.

But she did extend the deadline to the 9th, if that helps.

My Grandmother's funeral is tonight. I'll be back in town by Monday, to arrange the last-minute things.

If you plan on coming, though, you need to call the hotel and make a reservation.

Can we have a 'sound off' of who is coming?

Posted by Zevlag (Member # 1405) on :

Olivet, I called and booked a room. I think I will call and verify. I don't like the idea of getting there and not having a room.

This room is for:
Josh
Mark
Becky
Ken

It's looking like my San Francisco start up may be delayed until exactly then. It's so maddening! Why can't it be delayed just a little bit longer, since it's already months later than we originally thought? So at this point I'm not at all sure if I can come. One more delay and I'll be in the clear. Will it come? Sadly, I may not know until the very last moment. [Frown]

Okay, we have a couple rooms spoken for...

Does everyone have a room, now?

Is the "guy's room" booked?

Xnera, you have a roomie?

FRIDAY is the day the block of rooms gets wiped if there are not reservations.

Which just means you may have to pay a little more, not that there won't be any rooms.

Found a neat place for costume stuff:

http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/makingem/Makeup/HobbitFeet.htm

But the links to the cheap Halloween Arwen pendants are all sold out. [Frown] Anybody have one I could borrow? (not the pricey one, just the fake one).

Jenny is in charge of the schedule. There will be games and all sorts of stuff, I promise. [Smile]

Warning and Pre-emptive apology:

I still have one more person to talk to about it, but it looks like fencing may not work out.
My source for gear forgot, but I forgot to remind them, so blame falls on both sides there.
My backup source shot me down right away. They've been growing alot, and have a lot of classes running right now, so they have no gear to spare.

I do have one more, somewhat obscure source, that I have to contact this week. If that doesn't work, I could try calling a club down in Atlanta, and see about borrowing/renting/stealing gear for a day.

Just wanted to warn everyone not to be terribly disappointed. I know I'm disappointed I don't get to stab all these cool people I somewhat know.

I'll post again as soon as I know for sure whether my backup backup source will work. [Frown] aww man I really wanted to fight with real stuff, and not get my knuckles bruised this year.

Hoping to stab you all, ~Psychotriad

That looks good, except the $10.00 also covers the cost of the meeting room for two days, and the TV/dvd use.

The registration fee is $10.00, but if you don't want the lunch, make it $7.00

I wanted to make it a "suggested donation" but I can't afford to get stuck with $100.00 in fees nearly that much in catering and, er, party favors. [Big Grin]

Mack, my niece and her fiance will be coming, but getting their own room, possibly sharing with my other niece. My NC friend will probably be staying at my house, or else cotting in my room or your room (if she does, we'll split the cost 5 ways).

Jamie, I put your room reservation in your name, since you and Ophelia will arrive before my sister.

Um, also, it has come to my attention that at least one reservation was made without telling them you were with the "Computer Companions" group. This means that you didn't get the good rate.

I switched Zevlag's reservation for him [Big Grin] but there was one other reservation for that weekend that wasn't in the group that was made over the internet. If that WAS somebody in the group, I can have it changed for you to the lower rate, just let me know.

Reservations should be made by Friday, or the unreserved part of the block will be cancelled.

The guy's room (for Hobbes, Apostle Radio?, T-Smith and possibly Calvin Maker?) has not been reserved, or if it was, you didn't get the discount.

Also, please send me your itineraries so Morbo and I can arrange airport runs.

Do you think I should call in and reserve a room with the discount? The thing is, is I'm not sure if he reserved a room _without_ the discount.

How much is it a night without the discount, anyway?

Fellowship of the Rack! I love it! I would have bought that t-shirt!

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I think the room reserved without the discount was made in a female name. The difference is at least six or seven dollars a night, more if there are more than one person in the room. I think the rooms usually go for about $89.00 a night, though the innitial discount she quoted me had it at between $69.00 and $76.00 a night depending on the number of occupants.

The final rate we got was $69.00 a night (no change for more than one person). That is before taxes, but it's still pretty good.

JBGZevlag [6:16 PM]: haha
IceDragon60 [6:16 PM]: as in, my flight leaves at 6 something in the morning
JBGZevlag [6:16 PM]: ::getting up at 4 myself::
JBGZevlag [6:16 PM]: leaving at 6:30
IceDragon60 [6:16 PM]: and the return flight was left at 10 came back around 12
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: and then, after we book it, we realized that it was 12AM that I'd return
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: and I have school the next day
JBGZevlag [6:17 PM]: that sucks
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: and so he goes awol on me
JBGZevlag [6:17 PM]: lol
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: blaming me for not checking
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: when he was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO ME when we looked at it
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: and he said " Ok. Book it"
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: so my mom calls up the airline and gets me a better return time
IceDragon60 [6:17 PM]: but still
IceDragon60 [6:18 PM]: because of my dad, my departure time is horrible now, and i have to pay more money
IceDragon60 [6:18 PM]: he didnt even offer to give me the $15 i lost
IceDragon60 [6:18 PM]: i told him yesterday " I want to book it now, because you never know if it might change tomorrow"
IceDragon60 [6:18 PM]: and he AGREED, saying " Sometimes it does that"

Anyway, yeah. That's my rant for the day.

If you have a confirmation number, you're confirmed. [Smile] I don't know your name, so I can't ask the hotel if they have a reservation in it, but I'm sure you're fine.

The block has been freed up now, though I'm pretty sure they'd give anybody a discount if they said they were with the group, anyway. They need the business, and so far the hotel is empty except for us (though THere will be some there that are not with us, probably, when the actual date arrives).

Um, for everyone coming in in the late-day clump, I have a problem. See, I'll have my kids, so I won't have room for everyone unless Ron gets off early or something, and he won't know if he CAN until that day. Mobo might be able to take a couple of you, too. That would work. The other option is that you could all pile ina cab and share the fare, but I hope that will not be necessary.

Last year it was cool but sunny and pleasant, but this year it might be a wee bit on the BRRR side. Understand, of course, that the forcast could change a lot between now and then.

So, like, PRAY? [Smile]

Ack. How am I supposed to wear my Sam costume in 20-degree weather? And how are we supposed to drive home in the snow? [Eek!]

IF there is snow (and the chances are currently not high) Atlanta almost never has snow that amounts to anything, so I wouldn't worry about the driving.

As to the Sam Costume, I'd say wear layers. Body suits or whatever underneath and stuff. It usually doesn't get this cold here, and there's a good chance it will blow over. It was in the 70s a week ago.

Posted by narrativium (Member # 3230) on :

Don;t worry, Jane, dearie. Both your mother and I have driven in the snow before. (Well, i'm just assuming your mother has, but I would be extremely surprised if she hasn't, all things considered.)

Oh you poor, poor things! My heart goes out to you. Wintertime here is far too cold and dark for me. I keep dreaming of moving south. Guyaquil had such gorgeous weather, friendly people, low cost of living. So long as they have broadband, what would I be missing? Long summer days is all I can think of, but summer temperatures all year long would more than compensate for that. (Well, and my family, of course, but I could come home for visits). Guyaquil has a lot going for it. I always remember that around this time of year. [Smile]

My concern is for the Floridian contingent. I mean, my poor sister-in-law came up to Athens for college with a few long sleeved shirts and a jacket, thinking she'd be fine since Georgia was still considered the deep south and all. She was in for a rude awakening.

Now, we lived in Chicagoland for a while, so this area is like Bermuda or something by comparison (Bermuda does get cold, er, well, chilly, but I don't think they get freezes).

Anyway, the secret is layers. Undershirts, body suits, tights, etc. We can buy our tickets to the movie over the internet (as soon as stupid Moviefone lists times for that day *grumble*) so we shouldn't have to stand outside for long.

It's supposed to be almost 50 today, so maybe it is actually getting warmer.

I was planning to cab it that night anyway, and I'd be happy to have anyone tag along that wants to. I arrive at local time 9pm on Delta #2023. Any takers?

(All I expect in compensation is either witty conversation or stony, awkward silence. [Wink] )

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I checked, and a cab from the airport would be about $70.00. The limo service the hotel uses is $40.00 plus five for each additional person.

Five people in the limo would be $60.00, and would probably be more comfortable than a cab, and cheaper, too.

CT has already had me make arrangements for it for her. If anyone else wants to do that at a different time, lemme know.

What's everyone's beverage preferences? (Coke products vs Pepsi products, teas, etc.?)

I plan on having a variety, but knowing what y'all like would help. [Smile]

I'm normally pretty beverage agnostic as far as soft drinks go, but my sister has asked I boycott Coke (the company has been exploiting water supplies in her region of India, draining them so badly some villages don't have enough water), so my preference in soft drinks is pepsi.

I like a good tea, though, green or black. Earl Grey or any of the gunpower teas are good, for instance.

And hot chocolate is great too [Smile] .

I think the hotel will let us use a water cooler.

Every room has a coffee maker, so the hot drinks should not be a problem. I may also bring some guarana, which I have loved since my summer mission in Brazil. Antartica brand. Mmmm.

I need emails ( as soon as possible ) from the people we were giving rides to.

My grandmother just passed away yesterday. She'd been in a Hospice center for a year now, so it didn't come as a suprise. Only thing upsetting me is that I'm worried more about wenchcon.

It looks like I may not be able to leave Michigan until after a "noon-ish" funeral. Making our time to meet those we're carpooling fall backwards, and collapsing lunch ideas, placing us in Atlanta 4am or later.

If i could have an email from both Hobbes and JennyGardener as soon as possible, we can figure something out, such as if a time shift is possible, or Becky goin without me, or whatever is necessary.

So emails, sent to psychotriad@hotmail.com, as soon as possible, please.

Okay, it looks like I MIGHT be renting a car for the weekend, since I've been threated by two GA friends that if I don't see them, they will take my life. These visits would occur on Sunday..and Monday morning.

However, I have to call Alamo to make sure I can actually rent a car. They seem to say I can...THEY will let you pay with a debit card (with a MC or visa logo) provided you have proof of a roundtrip ticket. AND the minimum age is 21. So they say. I'll call tomorrow and find out.

If it IS true and I CAN rent a car, then I could take a group of Hatrackers myself.

There will be meat Lasagna and Veggie Lasagna, Lots of crusty Garlic Bread, and two de-lucious salads (one made by our very own Katharina which sounds lovely and will have chicken in it, and one spinach and strawberry concoction with nuts and a raspberry vinegrette). Drinks will be soft drinks, teas and water, or whatever you want to buy from the hotel drink machines. [Razz]

The menu is set at this point. If you can't/won't eat that stuff, I'm sorry.

ALSO, Jenny and I wanted to go dancing on Sunday night, but the hubby doesn't want me to if it will only be us two little women. [Smile] So, a bunch of you can come with us, please. [Smile]

1. Convinced Ben to come to Wenchcon. [Smile]

2. I rented a car from Enterprise. My insurance company recommended them. They only charge $10 extra per day for under 25 age drivers. I was looking at Alamo, but they said if you have two accidents in the past 36 months, even if you were at zero fault (which is MY case) that they won't let you rent. Which is stupid.

So anyway. There's going to be seven of us arriving at Hartsfield between 3-5 on Friday. Enterprise said that folks who are riding with me can ride the shuttle over to the rental place with me, no problem.

I'm not sure if we should do four to my car or what and how we'll get seven folks back.

Ideas?

I am soooooooo going to find a swing dancing place.

Posted by CalvinMaker (Member # 2032) on :

Here's what I came up with:

From a dance club site:
(It said they usually dance at Reunions Bar and Grill)

"Friday nights from 9PM to midnight (No Cover)
Reunions is located in the Marriott Hotel at Perimeter Mall.
246 Perimeter Center Parkway NE
Atlanta, GA 30346
770-394-6500

Sunday nights from 7PM to 10PM. Admission is $3 for members and $5 for non members. We usually have dance lessons from 5PM to 7PM."

(I looked up Reunions bar and grill and found the following)
"Reunions Bar & Grill is a great place where friends meet for food and fun. Enjoy burgers, sandwiches and pizza, as well as your favorite beer, wine or cocktail. Catch all the sports action on their big-screen TV. Open daily."

Other than that info, I found one other place:

"Make a Toast
Sip a cocktail and absorb the Rat Pack vibe at Leopard Lounge (84 12th St., Atlanta, 404-875-7562), where velvet-draped furniture and leopard walls set the mood. DJs are featured on Thursdays, and swing bands play on Fridays."

[Eek!]

I'll be getting in between 6:30 and 8pm-ish, depending on what time I leave. I have an appointment with a professor at 1:00 discussing my script, but it shouldn't take that long.

When I start getting closer, perhaps I'll give you a call on your phone, Noah, to make sure I know where all the Happenins are at.

PS - I refuse to be an elf.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

We are not doing the dance thing on Friday. For one thing, Jenny G won't even be IN until the wee hours, and I'm NOT getting jiggy without her. [Big Grin]

Plus, all those places are downtown. Even the upscale places downtown have a history of being places where bad stuff happens. And I don't wanna drive that far. So there [Wink] [Razz]

Reminders:

[*]Bring books you don't want anymore to trade.

[*]Bring a t-shirt for signing by the gang

Bring a bathing suit and some sort of LotR costume.

Taal, you could always just not shave or bathe, and wear clothes that have been rolled in mud. Voila! You're a Ranger. [Big Grin]

Can I come as 'Narrator Of The Hobbit'? I'll walk around with a charming faux-British (although remarkably authentic sounding) accent, carrying around a copy of the Red Book, and keep telling people how things used to be 'back in the day', and scoff when people claim that Hobbits never existed, and the events of the Closing of the Third Age are all completely fictional.

I will also insist that all dwarves have multi-colored beards.

I suceeded in getting us a Tavern sign, based on ladyday's design.

I also have 30 individual strawberry creme pies chilling in my fridge. Maybe I should freeze them, just to make sure they make the trip to the hotel without getting too warm...

I haven't got the drinks or the salad fixins yet, but that stuff really needs to be as fresh as possible, so that's okay.

Mack is renting a car, but she can only fit four besides herself.

Morbo will already have fugu, but he could probably swing by the airport and get one.

Now, that would work, but I didn't know Ben was going to be at the airport, too (riding with Mack).

I don't know how to get person #7 from the airport to the hotel. Traffic being what it is, it would probably be 6:30 before I could get to the airport from Acworth (much further north than the Hotel). I hate to leave anybody stranded that long.

Any ideas?

Since I'm the last one of the 3:30-4:30 people to get in, does that mean I'm the one stuck without a ride? Could at least one person who knows what's going on (and has a phone) be at the food court to meet me or something?

I should be wearing a teal skirt and black shirt/jacket. I'm a short girl, with longish lightish hair (probably braided).

Meet with Mack in the atrium. She will take some of you, and Ron has agreed to get 2-3 people.

Mack has his cell phone, and will call him. Your job will be to tell him whether you'lle be waiting outside the North or the South terminal. Make sure a person with a cell phone is one of the 2-3 people he'll pick up, and you can co-ordinate by phone.

We'll have ya covered.

Okay, Zev. Since you 3 guys are all together, why don't you plan on riding with Ron? His cell number is 404 433-8220. He'll drive by the waiting-for-a-ride area in whichever terminal you choose.

He said, "Tell them to look for a maroon Maxima, driven by a pudgy blond guy." [Big Grin] I sooo love my husband. But honestly, if you coordinate by phone, you should be able to meet up fairly easily.

If anyone is out there listening on your laptop, I should be in an hour or two after noon tomorrow. I will be able to stay Sunday night after all.
