Scroll all the way to the bottom and read that last section. It made me all misty. It was really touching.

It is, Kayla. But being a parent (wasn't there a thread in which you said you had kids? Or maybe you said that you liked kids...) makes it even more emotional. [Frown]

Thank you Kayla for sharing his latest column. I think one of the hardest thing for parent is to lose their child. Because you lose a part of your future. Every Birthday, Christmas, family gathering……you never quit thinking about the child.
God Bless Charlie Ben

[Frown] I didn't know this about OSC.

A couple of years ago, when Ben died, OSC put up a memorial page to him. It was one of the few things I have ever read that made me cry. And not just once. It took me several tries to finish it. One of the most moving pieces I have ever read.

Found it. Charlie Ben's bio written by his dad the week he died.

*sniffle* I'm glad the web archive kept SOMETHING. I remember when that went up and I remember the forums that week. *sigh*

I read that today, and incidentally thought of Liam's best friend Charlie, who is pretty high functioning but still special needs. He doesn't walk very well.

Then today when I picked him up from preschool, his teacher told me something that happened today. Liam is in this special preschool program because he had some speech delays, but the teacher thinks he won't qualify for the class after his review. In any case, today he insisted on pushing Amanda's stroller to her speech therapy session. Some Kindergarteners were standing in the hall as they went through and one of them asked, "Is she a baby?"

Liam said, "No, she's Amanda" before the teacher said anything.

Then the kid asked, "Why is she in a stroller, then?"

Liam said, "Because she has a hurt foot." Amanda has casts and wears braces on her legs sometimes because she has CP.

Then Liam walked over to this much bigger kid and asked, "Who are you? I'm Liam."

Defending his little friend, standing up to and even attempting to befriend a bigger kid. The teacher was incredibly proud of him, and I am, too. [Smile]

Doesn't your heart just leap for joy when you realize you have a kid with a big heart?

Give Liam a [Kiss] for me. [Smile]

Of course, when we got home he poured my contact lens solutions down the drain while I made him a sandwich. [Smile]

Kids. Gotta love'em, can't strangle them. [Wink]

Well, at least he didn't pour it into the VCR. Our VCR has been known to get thirsty. ::sigh:: I know you can't strangle them, but every once in a while. . . [Wink]

And isn't that just the way it goes? You are so proud of them for one thing and they turn around and do something so obnoxious you can't believe it's the same child. I'm pretty sure it's the universe's way of laughing at us.
