Travelogue Day 2:

I’m coming to the conclusion that the reason the gentry live in castles is that the villages are just plain looney.

By midmorning we reached the next village. As we entered, a long trail of monks chanted their Roman nonsense and hit themselves in the head with boards. Musical blah blah blah, then THWACK, right in the noggin. I will never understand religion.

The morning Dead Man was making his rounds. It had apparently been a good morning for him, as his cart was piled high with dead bodies. Among them was the famous German artist Eruve Nandiriel. And her not-quite-so-famous lover Damien. They were both dead, and did not appear to be getting better.

All the other bodies were nondescript except that they were all hideously ragged and dirty. The two peasants pulling the cart did not look much better. I am really looking forward to a century when bathing is not so unpopular.

“Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!” bawled the slightly more prosperous cart driver.

“Here’s one!” called the man named Mennis, who has not yet appeared in this story, but will sometime in the future. This is called foreshadowing.

Over his shoulder hung the body in question. It was a female, and not quite as hideous as the rest of the villagers, though easily as dirty.

“Ninepence,” replied the bored Dead Man.

“I’m not dead!” said the body.

“What?” asked the Dead Man, not quite so bored.

“Nothing,” said Mennis. “Here’s your ninepence.”

“I’m not dead!” repeated the body.

“Look here,” complained the Dead Man. “She says she’s not dead.”

“Yes she is,” replied Mennis.

“I’m not!”

“She isn’t,” pointed out the Dead Man.

“She will be soon. She’s very ill.”

“I’m getting better!”

“You’re not. You’ll be stone dead in a few moments.”

“I can’t take ‘er like this. It’s against regulations.” The Dead Man was adamant.

“I don’t want to go on the cart.”

“Don’t be so demanding. That’s why your mother named you Demander, and it should have been a warning to me when we got married. You’re very sick, now quit struggling.”

“I can’t take her.” The Dead Man was reluctantly trying to hand back the ninepence.

“I feel fine,” the body said.

Mennis pleaded with the cart driver, “Do me a favour, here.”

“I can’t.”

“Well, can you hang around a few moments? She won’t be long.”

The cart driver shook his head. “I promised to be at the Robinson’s. They’ve lost nine today.”

“When’s your next round?” inquired Mennis.

“Thursday.”

“I think I’d like to go for a walk,” said the body.

“You’re not fooling anyone, you know,” replied Mennis, then turned to the Dead Man and asked pleadingly, “Isn’t there anything you can do?”

At the same time, Demander began singing in an unrecognizable tune, “I feel happy...I feel happy...”

The Dead Man looked at Mennis for a long moment. The two exchanged furtive looks, then glanced up and down the street.

“Let’s take ‘er to the doc and see if she can do anything. It’s on the way to the Robinson’s anyway and might solve your problem.”

Mennis was a little disappointed with this, but followed the cart driver anyway, carrying the body over his shoulder. Demander kept singing.

Soon they were at the doctor’s hovel. It was as dirty as the rest of the village, which did not give much reassurance than any actual healing went on here.

“Yesh?” the doctor slurred. She had apparently been drinking her medicines.

“Got a body for you to look at, doc. Husband here says that she’s ill and will be dead any time. Regulations say I can’t take ‘er til she kicks off. We hoped you could hurry it along.”

Narnia, the doctor, looked at the singing woman. “She’sh upshide down.”

Mennis set Demander on her feet, who began to dance as well as sing.

The doctor looked her up and down and declared, “She’sh not dead.”

The two men rolled their eyes. “We know.”

“Can’t help you. Itsh againsht regulashhhhuns.”

The Dead Man and Mennis exchanged furtive looks again. They quickly looked out the windows and through the door. Then, out of sight, the singing and slurring was ended with two loud BONKs.

The two men carried the two bodies out of the hovel.

“Thanks very much,” Mennis said.

“That’s all right. See you on Thursday.” And with that, the cart driver continued on his rounds.

***********************

A tiny girl in a kimono wanders into the story. She realizes that she’s on the wrong set and cannot figure out how to get out.

Suddenly, a slightly smaller horde of screaming black dressed ninjas (dressing for the part for the change in genre) rampages in, stabs her repeatedly with their katanas, then sweep out of the story as quickly as they appeared.

Clarification to rules: the votes must be in BY 9pm Pacific. Votes *at* 9pm or later will not be counted.

(And pretend like I posted the original story here as Patsy. I forgot how I was logged on.)

(Oh, and pretend that I had Damander all dressed up in black with glasses and a fedora. She was mafia.)

I had no idea that if the Doc saved someone that their position would become public. Maybe it was because she was lynched.

I hope you are all happy. At least we got another mafia.

Unfortunatly Damander was who we asked about today. So we already know the answer before Jeni sends it to us.

Unless she will let us change our mind.

Again I ask, do not vote for any one. We lost 3 citizens today and the doctor for only one mafia.

msquared

LOL, Nathan! That was perfect. LOL...Would you like to write some of these? This one was really tough.

jeniwren, Patsy -- whoever you are -- those were great. I especially liked the genre-crossing. [Hat]

Well, let's see. We've taken out two mafioso, lost the doc and five other citizens.

I am now suspicious of EVERYONE. *eyes remaining cast suspiciously*

But I'm still most suspicious of Erik.

And I'm wondering if m² was spared because he's mafia? Or if he's not, and the mafia want us to THINK he is. [Wall Bash]

[Cry] I didn't like the genre-crossing...

As fun as it might be, Jeni, between writing essays for English, work, homework, and finding a minute to myself, I don't have enough time.

It is quite fun reading these, however. And since I do have some time to write something of a scene you could probably incorporate later somehow:

"What is your name?"

"::mumblejumble::"

"What is your quest?"

"To win this game of mafia."

"Are you mafia?"

"Yes... wait no... AAAHHHHHHHGGGGG"

::flies into a river of lava::

Rivka,

The second, they want you to think I am.

I am sorry to see the doc go(obviously). Maybe if I bemoan the fact that I will surely be the one to die tonight then I will not get bumped off again.

Townies, how many other mafia games have you lynched two mafia at the start of turn 3. We have lost three townies to the mafia, but we would be there no matter what. We have lost one other to lynching and it was the doctor. Go back and see who voted for narnia. I would guess that they should be high on your suspect list. They sure are mine.

msquared

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Now wait a bloody second! Why would you ask about someone who it was clear had a large chance of being lynched?

And I don't understand this at all:
quote:
I had no idea that if the Doc saved someone that their position would become public. Maybe it was because she was lynched.

[Confused]

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh, Nathan, that's perfect. If you think of any more, *email* them to me. Part of the fun of this is the element of surprise.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

Rivka

I did not know for sure that Damander was going to be lynched and that she was going to die. I have never played in a game with a tie vote.

I apologize for the lapse. You will have to trust me on this. I know it seems suspicious, but we submitted our request last night before all of the serious voting happened. I am going to assume that I will soon get an e-mail telling me that Damander was mafia and we wasted our question today.

You have to understand, that lynching late at night may mess up our request.

msquared

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

m2, Narnia was lynched. I revealed her role, per the rules. Her "save" for last night wasn't relevent, because she was dead. She just didn't know it yet. That's what happens when you drink too much. Delayed reactions. Happens all the time.

FUGU13, you need to post today, or risk dying of natural causes.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

In defense of myself, I have only recomended lynching one person and that person was mafia. I have abstained from the other vote and recomended that other abstained. True the vote last night got another mafia, but at the cost of the doctor, not a trade I relish.

msquared

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Well, if other people would have VOTED, we wouldn't have LOST the doctor. AhEM!!! We only lost the DOCTOR because it was a TIE because people were too scared to VOTE...people who KNEW who I was already!!! Yeah, I'm not bitter.

Ok jeni, really, I'm leaving. Just gotta get my last jabs in. Your story was great today. [Evil Laugh]

Narnia,

We were not sure you were the Doctor. You could have been the mafia trying to get info from us.

msquared

So, who shall we kill off next?

I still think Erik is mafia. He voted for himself, so I guess he doesn't mind. And the ghosts are clamoring for him to get to the lounge and bartend.

OTOH, there's hansenj and jamaha. Both of whom I suspected slightly before yesterday.

But their votes yesterday -- and their rather odd justifications of same -- move them way up on my "suspicious" list.

M2, we can't not vote. It's day three. Not voting for the first day is fine and dandy, but it's getting rediculous.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

It is day three and two mafia are down. We have voted twice and hit a mafia each time. We also lost three more citizens today. Why the rush? There are probably no more than 4 mafia left and there are still 21 people left. Assuming 4 more mafia we still out number them 4-1. That leaves a 20% chance of lynching a mafia and a 80% chance of lynching a townie or a police.

Again why the rush? Right now time is on the side of the townies.

msquared

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

You assume that we guess randomly. We're not, we're guessing based on past behavior.

That ought to increase our odds somewhat.

Posted by Ralphie (Member # 1565) on :

Why would someone not want us to vote?

m^2, love master, please explain how a citizen would gain more than a mafia member by not voting.

I know, I know - numbers on our side. But, they'll just start picking us off, and you seem to feel NO fear they'll be picking YOU off.

That's... a mite odd. [Smile]

(j/k [Wink] )

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Actually, Ralphie, m² keeps telling us he's gonna die next.

Every day.

And if it were truly random (as it could have been on the first day), I agree that it hurts the townies to lynch, more often than not.

But it's not random any longer.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

They will pick off one a day until they are all caught, but if they nubmer more than the citizens then they win. If we pick off citizens for them we make their job easier. In the mean time the police are asking about suspicous people at a rate of one per day. If we had waited one day, we would have been sure that Damander was mafia and the doctor would still be alive.

Why is it so hard for you townies to get this? So far the mafia have been voting to lynch townies. Look back at Damander and HDD. Who did Damander voter for? Not HDD. The police have a list of about 5 people we are checking on. I am saying just give us time.

I am really surprised that I have lasted this long. I was sure I would die last night.

msquared

Posted by Ralphie (Member # 1565) on :

That's true, love m^2, but as someone already pointed out we're guessing from clues. I see advantages both ways, but it seems that if someone stumbles across a solid lead, then we absolutely should vote. And, therefore, we should be scouring for solid leads.

I find it funny you think you're going to pop off everyday, too. [Smile]

Posted by Damander (Member # 4439) on :

My last words, and then I will leave this thread for good, unlike some other more obnoxious ghosts. *ahem* The funny thing about all this is that I would have posted exactly the same had I been a citizen. I was very miffed at the idea of not lynching b/c I did feel that was cheating the game. And then when the very person that started all of this no vote thing came out and said to vote, I was doubly miffed, and so I really did not vote purely to spite m2.

Honestly people, do you truly think people's actions and posts are good determining factors of who to lynch?? When a mafia member decides what to post, they think the logic back and forth and back and forth. They could do something mafiaish, or something very not mafiaish, and you would never know. Saying you knew I was mafia by what I did does not make sense. This is a game where people try to trick people, come on....

Jeniwren, thanks, that was a great death! [Smile] And atleast I took the doctor down with me (albeit though by chance).

[Taunt]

*drifts off to the ghost's lounge*

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

I am sorry you thought I was cheating the game. I feel, however, that I broke no rules. People are allowed to abstain. I gave my reasons that people should abstain. I felt it was best for the townies. Even with my reasons people still voted. Maybe not in as much numbers. My arguments also helped me flush out some mafia early on becuase they felt that they had to argue against my position. HDD was an example of that. The only reason the police picked him to check on first round was becuase of his opposition to my request.

In this I feel I am channeling Ender in his final battle in Battle School. I took advantage of a loophole in the rules, one that has been there for a while. I assume that the rules will be changed next game. Then I will have to figure out how else to win.

I agree with you however, I had no real proof you were mafia. That is why we were going to check on you. I did not vote for you becuase I was not sure. I have a very high level of proof needed. Like Jeni confirming you are mafia or a confession. If people had followed my idea you would have lived one more day and the doc would still be alive.

Damander, you were the one who told me people's posting styles change when they're mafia!

Of course mafia will examine their posts carefully. And yet . . . I was certain you were mafia, and Narnia was not.

And I was right.

Just for that, Erik, I'm going to not vote for you.

Instead, I'm voting for hansenj. I've been slightly suspicious of her for a while, gradually growing more and more so. And yesterday was the kicker.

In addition, I wonder if jeniwren would really put two roommates on different sides.

Yep, thinking Hansenj

Voted out HDD, after everyone else jumped on that lynch-wagon...

Vote last night for the lynching, right when things could be swayed to whack a citizen...

And has only made two posts so far up to now... keeping a moderately low profile. What about Blacwolve and Avadaru who've been similarly quiet but haven't risked dying from the Plague???

I just found this out. We have to wait until she post the story and then make our request.

This is really important guys: We need to vote. If all the citizens abstain, then the mafia will get two hits a day, because gosh darn them if they won't vote to lynch an innocent townie. We've got to put a stop to that right now. It only takes one vote to lynch. I did what I thought was right and voted for Damander. If other townies had done the same instead of abstaining, we wouldn't have lost Narnia.

Aunt Ashley wants YOU to vote!

PS, if anyone suspects me, I voted twice for mafioso.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

Oh my! It turns out I was horribly wrong. But I still stand by what I said about not being able to tell Damander was mafia by her posts.

Gee, Damander, I don't think I want to be your friend anymore. [Wink]

Welp, looks like my vote has to be hansenj (b/c of course if I didn't vote now everyone would be yelling I was mafia....now who else unknowingly voted for Narnia??)

I was completely duped by Damander. I admit it. Just to make sure I don't kill any policemen by accident now I would abstain but since Hansenj is mafia I vote hansenj .

In Round 1, the votes went in this order. It's redundant, but bear with me:

Eslain voted for Ryuko
Youth ap Orem voted for m2 then changed his vote to Head Ditch Digger
Sopwith voted for Feyd Baron
Narnia voted for Head Ditch Digger
Celia voted for Head Ditch Digger
Ryuko voted for Head Ditch Digger
Anna voted for Head Ditch Digger
Rivka voted for Head Ditch Digger
I voted for Erick Slaine (lied about voting for mafia both times, sorry all. Unless of course Eslaine is mafia, then I'm not sorry)
hansenj voted for Head Ditch Digger
Feyd Baron voted for Head Ditch Digger
Blackwolve voted for Head Ditch Digger
Troubadour voted for Head Ditch Digger
Ryan Hart voted for me (sarcasticmuppet) after, I think, voting for m2 and finding out he's immune.
Ralphie voted for Head Ditch Digger

And round 2:
Sopwith voted for hansenj
Erik voted for herself
Somebody else voted for Slaine (didn't see who, but jeniwren at this point said he had 2 and hansenj had one. I suspect an edited post [Mad] )
I voted for hansenj and later switched to Damander
Zevlag voted for Slaine
Ryan voted for hansenj
Narnia voted for Demander
Ryuko voted for Demander
jamaha voted for Narnia
Demander voted for Narnia
celia voted for Frisco
hansenj voted for Narnia
Feyd voted for Erik Slaine
nfl voted for Narnia
Rivka voted for Demander
Demander switched to Eslaine at the last minute and it wasn't counted.
Anna voted for Demander at like three in the morning and that wasn't counted either

Those who have consistently not voted for mafia are Slaine, Sopwith and Ryan.

Of the living members, Avadaru, blacwolve, fugu13, Raia, and Synesthesia have not voted, and fugu's the only one who hasn't been posting.

May I point out that this is, actually the second time I've appeared in this thread?

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Yeah, I was about to point that out. Although for a second I was wondering why everyone was voting for hansenj and I had to go back to see where msquared IDed 'em.

oh go back to the ghost lounge, you silly serving wench. [Big Grin]

Can I just point out that this will be the last time I am posting on this thread?

Doubt it.

Hey, hey! SM, I voted for HDD on the first day and hansenj today. I didn't vote for anyone yesterday because I trusted msquared's judgement, and no mafia had been ID'd.

[Grumble]

And here I had my whole defense all figured out in my head...

Fine then! Kill me! [Evil Laugh]

*wanted to hear hansenj's defense, if for no other reason than to use it in her lynching*

Sorry jeniwren, it makes little sense now to say it...leave the townies to figure things out on their own. [Evil]

Hey, the townies don't care either way. All you're doing is cheesing off the mod... Bad idea, bad...

I voted for HDD too.

Dooooooh! [Wall Bash]

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

Sorry pajeba. Must have missed those. Anyway, it's fixed now.

It was clever of hansenj to vote for HDD back in Round 1 when it was obvious that he'd get lynched, no?.

*re-reads death* Oh wait! I'm married. To an awful man named Mennis that wanted to have me killed. Oops, good thing I didn't use this stuff in the brown paper bag.... [Eek!]

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

Mennis will come into play later, remember? It's forshadowing.

Posted by Patsy (Member # 5699) on :

Wait 'til you find out who Mennis is. [Evil]

I had better get my vote in! hansenj

I am wondering that if I keep claiming that I will not live through the night, that I might actually live through the night? [Smile]

I am glad to have been of service. If I live I will do my best to continue serving my fellow townies.

hmmmmmm.....what about

hansenj

Interesting who posts after the target is a forgone conclusion, neh?

Posted by Erik Slaine (Member # 5583) on :

You just might have a point there, rivka....

Time to jump on the bandwagon, wheee!

I vote for hansenj .

Posted by newfoundlogic (Member # 3907) on :

Everyone posted after it was a foregone conclusion. As soon as msquared declared hansenj to be mafia we knew who was going to be lynched.

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

Ryan was a late voter with HDD's lynching as well.

hmmmmmm...

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Beg to differ, nfl -- I actually voted BEFORE m² ID'd hansenj.

But anyway, that's not what I meant. There were those who posted shortly after m² and those who clearly waited to be sure we weren't going to doubt m²'s word and/or argue again that m² was mafia.

Gracious even my schedule is under scrutiny. I am busy till 7:00 everday. Then I go eat dinner. So I don't get home till about 8:30. So yeah my votes are gonna be a little late. Just don't lynch me AGAIN.

eek! My how things are happening (and this is just looking at the opening post of this thread as I do not have much time)

Umm Sarcasticmuppet... you might want to look back to day two when I started out by voting for Hansenj.

And then today, doing it again before Msquared had said she was Mafia...

Then look at who else I said I thought was Mafia by using the process of elimination.

But then again, I could be a spy in disguise, right? Or just a fluffy white rabbit with big gnashy teeth!

Ok, even I am getting bored with the repition, but I would think that this is my last night. I have already made my preperations and give my instructions to my padiwan police. I have talked to the one citizen that we have cleared. This citizen prefers that their identity remain a secrect for now, and I respect that. As I have said before I expect it will be a couple of days before the police report again, so that when they do they will have at least two more mafia names, so please sit tight. We are thinking that there are 6 mafia, well 3 after tonight.

Just a quick run down. By my calculations at the start of the game the numbers were about 4 citizens to each mafia(4-1), give or take a little. After tonights lynching and mafia hit I figure that it will be 5 citizens for each mafia(5-1) and if we had not lost two citizens to natural causes today it would be 6 citzens to each mafia(6-1). Your chances of winning are better if you do not vote until the police confirm the mafia. I know you have your suspicions and leads, but what real leads do you have? There is no real proof, just what you think someone is saying or why they are saying it. Trust me, we can win with more citizens alive if you let the police do their job.

Thanks
msquared

I definetely agree with the whole boldness in your vote thing. I just went through a quick runthrough and I obviously missed a few folks. Jeez. [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin] [Razz]

Or I could just get accused by rivka anyway, because she likes to accuse everyone and their dog. [Wink]

But seriously, of course you have to be right sometime, rivka, if you accuse everyone. I say everyone let the police do their job and keep your accusations to yourself. If someone truly feels someone is mafia, we all have m2's email, we could tell him and he could pass it along to the other police. Just a thought. I admit I was wrong yesterday, but I'm also new to the game. Please don't hold it against me.

[ROFL] That's a great line. I may make it my personal slogan.

You are right, of course. If I'm suspicious of everyone, I'll get it right eventually. But I believe everyone I have actually VOTED for in this game and last (except Ryan) was actually mafia. I haven't voted for you. Yet. [Evil]

Posted by Erik Slaine (Member # 5583) on :

Well, I'm still voting for someone tomorrow, if only to have a lynching death for Patsy to write about (I love your work, Terry Gilliam, I especially loved your version of 12 monkeys!).

Posted by Anna (Member # 2582) on :

Too late to vote, but anyway I'm not sure about anyone being mafia. Except maybe Erik. May be my next choice.

Oh, by the way, I know Troubs is in Australia but we don't hear him too much...
Hmmm...
