Kinda surprised that nobody has yet started a thread announcing Robert Palmer's death. I liked some of his songs, but don't know enough about him to go into a discourse about his effect on music or the music industry. His videos apparently did result in a 400% increase in the sales of lipstick, though. (Sorry for levity in such a thread, but I couldn't help myself.)

Anyway, for those who know anything and/or care, consider this a tribute thread and add what you wish.

A couple of girls I knew in High School used to swoon over Robert Palmer. This was before the MTV thing, and most of us just passed it off as a pop thing. His most known "hit" at the time was Bad Case of Lovin' You.

Later, in the eighties, I began to realize the impact of this guy. He played with Fripp and Eno, he did other progressive things, and really contributed to the vocabulary of pop music.

I think that most of us would consider Robert Palmer "party music".

And I think that he would be fine with that.

We lost a great pop artist today.

Let us not forget his seminal work with Emerson, Lake & Palmer!!!

To my memory, I never saw him without a cigarrette, and he died of a heart attack at 54.

George Plimpton died, too. [Frown]

Oh, and Palmer might have smoked, but for a rocker, he led quite a healthy lifestyle. He ate healthy, didn't do drugs, was happily married and had two kids.

That's always refreshing to hear. Is is just me, or does it seem like the music industry is the 'party' industry as far as drugs and sex go...is it really like that, moreso than any other industry of fame, or is that just the image that the media feeds us? [Dont Know]

You're gonna have to face it, he's addicted to dirt.

Am I confusing myself or is Robbie Palmer the name of a character on 7th Heaven? And I'm kinda oblivious to anything musical so I'm clueless as to whom you're all actually talking about.

Wasn't there a Julie Palmer who stared in Clueless?

Why did people have to steal my name before I was born? [Grumble]

Julie - believe me. It could be worse. Much worse. Some of us have the misfortune to have the same name as certain porn stars. [Grumble]

Well, if you'd get out of the porno industry that wouldn't be a problem, sndrake.

Ralphie, I had offers, but decided to turn away from the easy road of glamor, sex and STDs. Could be that's why that other guy went and took my name. The imposter!!! [Mad]

If your name is Ron Jeremy, I'm going to die laughing.

For those who don't know who Robert Palmer is

Hmm, don't know if that will actually be a link or not since I've never done this before at Hatrack.

He was actually known for his clean lifestyle as someone mentioned. And he was only 54 (John Ritter was 53) which makes you wonder - how is it that Mick Jagger is still alive??? [Confused]

No, thank goodness. I have the same Opus-like phsyique as him, though.

I'm in shape - round's a shape, right? [Smile]

The guy with my name isn't as well-known. I found out about him a couple months ago when somebody posted a google that gave you a list of sentences that contained your name. When I punched my real name in I got some very surprising stuff!!! [Eek!]
