Is anyone else here still watching Survivor? Any ideas on who'll win this time? Personally I've been rooting for Drake tribe for no other reason than that I want Rupert to win. (That's the big hippie guy with the skirt.)

I am utterly and completely disgusted by everything about all reality tv.
Yes, this includes Real World and Road Rules. All the dissolute, prurient 'Porn Island Threesome Cruiseliner' shows. Yes, I hated Survivor from the first moment it was ever on. All the 'be a star now American Idiot Dance-a-thon Pop Bars Making the Crap' shows. I hate them all. Reality TV sucks. Horribly. everything about it. And no, the 'queer eye' guys dont always give good advice. In fact, the one episode i saw tells me that often, they give downright bad advice, AND they wanna have all of the sex with the straight guy.
boo reality TV. it never even resembles reality. Except elimidate. i was in a fraternity, and girls really ARE that slutty.

That's really the only reality TV show anyone needs to watch. Tuesday nights, 9/8c.
It's horribly mean, but so funny. It's like a train wreck, really. And I can't wait to see the last episode.

Hate to display this side of me but...
The new series of Survivor starts here in Oz tomorrow night, and my little household is hanging OUT! I'm not sure why...I always end up hating everyone on it....
Queer Eye also starts here tomorrow - is this a good or a bad thing? I can't make up my mind from the trailers. I'm going to watch, anyway.
For that matter, the first ever series of Australian Idol is happening here at the moment. Equally awful. Equally compulsive.
Anyone else heard of a little show called "The Mole"? We have it here, and it's great. Series final tonight. One of them is the winner, one of them the loser and one is....the MOLE!

But I am delighted with the trend towards "making" in the later shows. Queer Eye, like all of the redemptive makeover shows for people, homes, and even Harleys ( ) is a welcome change from deliberate tearing down.

Let me just say that I don't watch any of the coupley ones (For love or money, the bachelor, joe millionaire). I watch the contest ones (Survivor, Amazing Race) and the home remodeling ones (Trading Spaces, While you were out, Designing for the Sexes). I also watch a lot of regular TV. In fact, I watch way too much TV in general.

The Amazing Race is the only reality show that my wife will watch with me. She said that she would do that show with me as long as she did not have to be on TV. Not sure how the producers would handle that.
I always watch Survivor. While I like Rupert, I am rooting for the Boy Scout Troop leader from Cincy, Ohio. I am involved with scouts and live only 40 minutes north of there.

What's people's thoughts on Big Brother? (I'm presuming it's pretty much a universal phenomenon by now.) It's one I've never been able to get into... while I'm a bit of a reality TV junky (as you might have guessed from my previous post), this show has always struck me as particularly unengaging.
Or is it just me?

I get really tired of reality TV. All the people on the show are strikingly similar. If they're not at the beginning of the season, they are at the end. They all turn into morally corrupt gossiping fiends that live off of scandal and betrayal. I swear that some of the alliance-brokering in Survivor isn't for mutual protection, it's so that there can be an uproar when someone breaks the alliance. I'm a strategy-minded guy, and I'm also a Quaker (in behavior, not in belief), so I can't stand it. It gets under my skin and I declare that if they had me on the island, they'd be having at least 2.5 times more fun.

My only problem with Lillian, the Boy Scout Leader is a basic one: If she's a Scoutmaster, where are her outdoor and leadership skills? I haven't seen her do much with the shelter, getting more food or even tying a knot. I know Scouting is much more than that, but aren't those the basics of being a Scout. I think when it comes to the old "Be Prepared" motto, she isn't.
As a matter of fact, the only Boy Scouts wisdom she handed down was to Ryan S. when she explained that she taught her Scouts to tuck in their blouses (her words if I recall) because "to be a scout, you have to look like a scout."
Give me the skirt wearing, unshaved guy who steals shoes and skewers fish any day of the week!

I haven't seen any of them. I used to have a conflict with my roommate because The Bachelor was on at the same time as The West Wing.
However, this article has almost convinced me that the Joe Schmo Show would be worth it.
