My son Christopher (five years old) has always had Very Large Tonsils. We got two opinions on it from two different doctors, and we decided to agree with the doctor who said he might "grow into them".

Oops.

Now Christopher has Acute Tonsilitis. He is on Zithromax and has an appointment with Ear, Nose and Throat on Wednesday. Waaaahhhh. I know they are going to want to cut my baby open. *sniffle* To be fair, I know many people who have had their tonsils removed. I also know that this will help with his breathing and maybe he won't be sick as often. But still. Dammit.

He hates liquid food. He is going to be an absolute b*stard during recovery. Poor little schmoe.

If it's any comfort, having my tonsils out really did help with a bunch of things. My voice became less nasal, I got far, far, far fewer ear and sinus infections (also had adenoids removed), and when I caught mono several years later it couldn't take up residence in my nonexistent tonsils, so I didn't get as bad a sore throat as most people.

It did take two weeks before I felt like eating solid food, but I had a LOT of popsicles.

Well I've already had acute tonsilitis (with mono), and now it is becoming chronic tonsilitis, so I went to an ear nose and throat guy yesterday and my tonsils are coming out in two weeks.

They say with adults it is worse because the tonsils are larger than kids so there is more to cut out.

But, we can compare recovery notes!
