This is quite an interesting article

but the reason they give...

quote:
The reason for the variations in this experiment is that men are far more stupid than women.

[Eek!]

just a little harsh... (and this is a national news source!!)

Sounds like someone's a little bitter about being rejected at bars one too many times...

The study is flawed. They changed the group of volunteers instead of changing the pictures. That brings a few more variables that severly change the results.

Ahh, but the reporter is a man.

*smile*

Ha! You forgot to provide the logic behind that brilliant deduction.

quote:
Different volunteers were then given varying amounts of alcohol and asked to perform the same task.

Drunken men rated girls several grades up the ladder in comparison with men who had graded the same pictures but had not been drinking.

However, drunken women consistently gave pictures of men lower ratings than women who were sober.

The reason for the variations in this experiment is that men are far more stupid than women.

It goes on to say that men will mate with strangers and women tend to want to make sure that the men aren't involved in "the white slave trade."

I'm surprised a news story of this caliber wasn't reported on Fox News, to be honest.

It has long been known that women do not have the same obsession with looks as men and are more interested in other qualities like personality," Dr Mittermair said.

[ROFL]

Proof?

I don't like generalizations like that. How would women like if I said they WERE obsessed with looks, but not the looks of others. They're all obsessed with the way they themselves look.

This is not true with many women. Just like that "long since known" statement about men isn't true.

Y'all are taking this article waaay too seriously.

Follow the links to some of the articles in the same category.

Out of curiosity, I did a search for this "Dr. Andreas Mittermair." The only thing that came up was variants of this so-called study.

The University of Vienna has no such person on staff.

I think it's a bit harsh that Mackillian always follows up anything I post with a --l--. [Razz]

Back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Ok, so it's a silly article... but it did first appear in the Courier-Mail which is a 'serious' daily paper (though it's pretty rubbish.. as you can probably tell [Wink] )

I just loved the complete lack of substantiation, amazing generalisations and assumptions...
news reporting at its finest [Big Grin]

So, what he's saying is women find men less attractive when they (the women) are drunk.

So, based on this, when I was at a party a few weeks ago and some girl who was drunk out of her mind was throwing herself at me, I can conclude that I must uber-hot. I mean, my attractiveness had to be so extreme that it overwhelmed her even while she was drunk. [Big Grin]

This study is amazing! Bring on more studies!

It probably also explains why I couldn't get Ophelia in my pants at Hatrack.ca [Razz] Her standards are just higher than the previous girl [Wink]

I also like this one: Drama as fowl faints on stage
Surely one of the best news titles around...

This is more excusable though: it's from the Townsville Bulletin (Townsville is a small-ish city in far north Queensland <Australia... but you all knew that [Wink] >) - there's not much else to do in Townsville besides watch chickens! [Big Grin]

You should have tried when I was more sober. [Wink] [Big Grin]

So, if women think men are uglier when the women are drunk, what does that prove? The researchers also said that women don't value appearance as much as men.

So haven't they just proved nothing?

Perhaps when women get drunk, they find other women more attractive. It could simply be that alcohol makes women -- regardless of the gender of the drinker -- look better.

If the study is legit, it makes some sense.

All a man has to do to procreate is mate. A woman has to take care of the child and be taken care of. It makes sense that the brain is wired so that when judgement is removed (this is what alcohol does), men couldn't care less who they are with and will say anything to mate, while women are still concerned with finding a 'real' man.
