If folks are interested in seeing this continue, I need another round of writing samples. Send ‘em in please.

dkw275@hotmail.com

Fiction or non-fiction creative writing. 200 words or so. Doesn’t matter if you’ve played in previous rounds or not.

Can you post an explanation of the game for those of us who either forgot or never knew and thus shied away the last time?

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

No.

Yay! I am so on the way...

Bob, the game is simple – people send me short excerpts from something they’ve written. I post them one at a time and other people critique the writing and guess who the author is.

I make up reasons to give people points – usually to encourage people to critique.

And that's all there is to it.

When's the dead line? I' haven't written anything in years but am starting to keep a journal again? can we submit even after the game starts?

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Wow! The game is simple. Deceptively simple. What's the catch? Hmm????

Anyway, count me in!

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

No deadline. It's a very open ended game.

If you think you might submit something, let me know and I'll put you on the "guess from" list so I don't have to edit you in later.

I think I'll submit something.

I want to submit something. I'll just have to write it first. I think I'll get right on it, and thus avoid studying.

Put me down as a contestant. I have a few ideas bouncing around my head.

I sent you a paragraph a few weeks ago, dkw. I wonder if it just got deleted by accident. No matter- I'll submit again.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

It did not get deleted. I already had three submissions for the next round, and yours was one of them. [Smile]

OK, Guess Locke every time now. We know he might be one of the first.

oops, was that out loud?

I'm game.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

dkw, did you get mine??

Did you? Did you!

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Very good. Now I need lots of people to post here that they sent stuff, to confuse Dan.

(and lots of people to send stuff, without posting here. shhhhhh.)

Posted by beatnix19 (Member # 5836) on :

i guess :Locke. Am I right? Is this too soon?

Posted by Jon Boy (Member # 4284) on :

What if we post here without sending stuff? Is that okay, too?

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Yes, that's what I meant. People who did not send stuff should post. People who did not post should send stuff.

And then, just so it's not a simple reverse, some people should both post and send stuff.

And I suppose it's okay for a few people to neither post nor send stuff. But not too many. [No No]

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

and whatever you do, don't send stuff, and not put your name on it, and hope that she'll be able to tell from your email address who's story it is, because that would be like, really silly and embarrassing, if anyone did that, not like I did or anything, but...well...I was rushed...I mean, someone could be rushed and forget and....

just don't do that.

I'm sending something, just as soon as I find something that no Jatraqueros have read. [Smile] Then again, if Irami's not playing, I'm free. Fat chance. [Razz]

so if i post here i'm sending something, but only i only post so i can say i'm posting and not sending so people won't guess me, but they will because i posted?

I can't submit anything... I'll have lost the element of surprise...

Perhaps if I...

I sent stuff.

No, I didn't.

Yes, I did.

No, I didn't.

Gotcha Dan. Will do... not...do that.

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

So do we send the whole thing, and you pick the excerpt, or just send the excerpt?

(And did I spell "excerpt" right?)

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Just send the excerpt. Most have them have been the beginnings of stories, but they wouldn't have to be.

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

i'll submit.... after exams (which end tomorrow, woo hoo!)

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

I'll submit right away... or I'm just posting for mystery's sake... we'll see.

Posted by beatnix19 (Member # 5836) on :

*bump*

for two reasons,

1.) what is the timeline for starting new game?
2.) hopefully more people will sign up. [Smile]

If I did send a submission... is it alright to assume it was recieved?

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Good question. I should send out confirmation e-mails. I'll get right on that.

I had intended to have round one up first thing this morning, but I had a funeral. It should be up sometime this afternoon -- I just have to finish the "guess from" list.

Okay, confirmation e-mails have been sent.

I'm sorry that they're kind of form-lettery, but the idea of trying to find 30 ways to personalize "yes I got your entry" made my head spin.

Oh, and if we've already had correspondence about your entry (like, "thanks for entering, who the heck are you?" or "did you really mean to have line-breaks every three words, or did hotmail do that?) then you didn't get a form letter. Otherwise, if you sent an entry and haven't heard from me I probably didn't get it.
