I'd like to try it, but your links sends me to the answer page. I didn't read any, to keep the test honest. [Smile]

That's my music you're talking about!

It was mine, too, and I only got 73.4. I should probably get myself checked out for Down's Syndrome or something.

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Heh, I had this vision of Ic as Bob or Doug McKenzie.

I got a 73, which sucks because there were 17 that I left blank and actually knew.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Sheesh! 38.5 and that's partly 'cuz he took off 30% for being in the generation that gave him disco and the bradys.

Hmmmph.

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

Man, that test was too long, but on the ones I did know, I got half of them wrong because I spelled them wrong. I mean, really, is it such a big deal if I spell Billie Jean as Billy Jean? Or Jessie as Jesse? And who in the Hell names their boy Jessie?

Ha! I got an 88.5, and I wasn't even alive for all of the eighties. Take that, old 'uns.

(I misspelled Billie Jean and Jessie too. Drat.)

You all forget that Icarus OWNS a karaoke machine.

Literally OWNS one!

He uses it too! It's not like those Nordic track things that you fold up and stick under the bed. Nope, this is a permanent fixture in their house. Like the kitchen table. It's just THERE.

And they actually know good places to buy the karaoke versions of hard-to-find songs.

Now, Moose's performance I can't explain except to point out that his mis-spent youth was mis-spent in Santa Barbara and he knows actual DJs who invite him over to their house and all. They probably play music there too!

My score was a sad combination of leaving things blank that I later recognized and misspelling things that I knew the word, but not how to spell it.

I challenge you all to a 60's duel, though.

HAH! <--- sound of me throwing down gauntlet

WHOA! <--- sound of me marveling at all the cool color trails as my gauntlet falls swirlingly to the ground.

Posted by Ethics Gradient (Member # 878) on :

Hmmm. 34.1.

Lost a few because of typos.

I'm actually pleased.

Very few of the songs I missed are ones I think are good. [Wink]

Posted by littlemissattitude (Member # 4514) on :

80.5.

I'm really frustrated, because there were a lot that I know I know, but just went blank on.

It kind of worries me though - whoever made up that quiz thinks that "Smokin' in the Boys Room" is an 80s song. Thing is, it was out when I was in high school, in the 70s - Brownsville Station, not Motley Crue.

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

Yeah, they released it in 1974, but Motley Crew covered it with a video in 1985. Remember, video killed the radio star. [Laugh]

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

98.5. I think knowing the Hotel California song was what really helped me out...

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

"Africa" was worth 5 points?!? Who doesn't know "africa"?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

[Blushing] Oh, the shame.

Final Score: 56.5

In my defense, I had the same problems with Billie Jean and Jessie as others. And there were a LOT where I knew one of two blanks, or even two of three -- I want partial credit! [Razz]

I did get the 10-pointer. [Big Grin]

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

WooHoo! 105.5!

Same stupid typos as the rest of you. I've never owned a Michael Jackson album! Or a Rick Springfield album! Where would I ever see it spelled?!

And I was only 10 when the 80s ended. [Razz]

And there were more that I would have known had the song been playing instead of having to read and insert the beat.

Had I heard and known "Footloose" and "Physical", I wouldn't have guessed "please" for "Louise", nor "rebel yell" for "body talk". [Embarrassed]

And I somehow drew a blank at the lyrics for Der Kommisar.

Posted by Megachirops (Member # 4325) on :

Yeah, I'm kicking myself over Footloose and Physical too.

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

Did you claim Woodstock or The Twist?

Woodstock is a 30% deduction, and The Twist is a 15% bonus.

I got no bonus because I was three months old when Nancy told us all to Just Say No. [Grumble]

Posted by Megachirops (Member # 4325) on :

"Just Say No"

No bonus, no deduction.

But it's just that you're so mature, Iccy!

I'm almost as embarassed as the last time I took one of these tests and filled in

"I just called to say _____ _____ _____."

i misspelled jessie too!

grrr

many that i should have gotten i screwed up somehow, but i got a 58.5, which aint bad since i was only 7 when the 80's ended and i rarely listen to that crap.

0. Was not very old back then. Never listen to music, even now. [Hat]

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

Wow. I think a blind Rhesus monkey with Alzheimers could've guessed at least one right.

And you get five points just for saying where you heard about the test!

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

73...better than I thought. I was actually surprised and rather proud that I knew that many! [Smile] I'm impressed with all the rest of you. [Hail]

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

Too lazy. I stopped after question 20 when realizing that there was no possible way that I could have answered any of these questions without a random guess being correct. I put something like pepperspray for "She blinded me with ______."

So, I just scrolled down and hit submit. [Big Grin]

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

The only ones I definitely knew was the Weird Al, Beastie Boys, and Billy Idol songs. The rest were just guesses.

So....I only got 17.5 [Blushing]

But this isn't my generation. I didn't even start getting into modern music, really, 'til '97 (before that, it was only my dad's music that I also liked [lynyrd skynyrd, Beatles, etc.]). So gimme a break!

Posted by Scythrop (Member # 5731) on :

88, but only really respectable thanks to Hotel California. Can't believe I didn't get Little Red Corvette [Blushing]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ok, everyone who knew Hotel California -- are you SD fans? Or do you just know the lyric?

Posted by Ryuko (Member # 5125) on :

60. That's respectable. I got the Hotel California lyric because A. I heart the Eagles and B. I read the lyric in the book "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" or one of its sequels.

90.5.

I easily missed five questions due to stupid typos. "Stream train" instead of "steam train" being a prime example.

I deserve not to get those points out of carelessness. Bad Ralphie.

Posted by Megachirops (Member # 4325) on :

I got the hotel california one right . . . I dunno why, I guess because I really like the Eagles a lot. I didn't even realize that was a controversial/often-misheard one. I missed the Toto one, because I put "Hurry, now" or some such instead of "Hurry, boy." Stupid Joe. That one was 5 points?!?!

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Okay, I can't figure this out. I got a 93, but Claudia Therese is not only completely tone deaf but claims to not appreciate most music. *looks suspiciously at her*

73.75 with a 10% bonus for the Church Lady era and 5 points for where I heard about it. I was kicking myself when I read the answers though and if I could hear the music I would have gotten a lot more.

Posted by Megachirops (Member # 4325) on :

Pat, did you have a 30% penalty?

Posted by dangermom (Member # 1676) on :

114.5, but by the end my head was so full I couldn't think of the songs I knew I knew. Argh!

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Tom, I have a retentive memory for the lyrics. If I tried to hum them, they'd all sound like my version of "Stairway to Heaven." [Wink]

Posted by Papa Goose (Member # 5848) on :

Yup. Although now I forget what the 30 percent penalty was for. Was is for not getting the Eagles reference? I knew it was the eagles, but just couldn't place the stinking words.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

I gave up because I'm pretty sure it's "down at the 5 and dime" not "bought it at the 5 and dime". So if I can't even have confidence that the cues are right... Also I got to #33 and there hadn't been any Duran Duran lyrics. Stupid Anglophobes. I don't think, anyway. Maybe I'll take it some other time. I'm sure I'll get much better results using my Mac.

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

It actually is "bought it".

Posted by Megachirops (Member # 4325) on :

Yes. And there was a Duran Duran line.

-o-

Pat, the 30% was for your age (i.e., old), and in that case, you did comparably to me. 73.6 is 70% of 105. So you did fine!

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

And Tears for Fears was #3, Depeche Mode was #5, the Buggles were #8, Wham! was #14...Duran Duran came in #84.

*whispers*
I got a 14.35 [Frown]

I left most of 'em blank, and I accidentally used the wrong word in the Beach Boys one. What are they doing there anyway?

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

You know, I'm a little miffed at the distinct lack of REO Speedwagon in that list.

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

And another thing, there are some mistakes. I just took it again (119.5), and as I was perusing the answers I saw some stuff that didn't jive with my memories of the songs:

The line in "Whip It" (#18) is "Whip it. Whip it good," not "Whip, whip it good." Fortunately I was thinking Salt n Pepa anyway so I got that point.

The line in Africa (#19) is "Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you," not "it's waiting there for you."

Sometimes he includes things like "oh" and sometimes he doesn't. If he is, then the line in #28 should be "Don't turn around, oh oh oh. Der kommisar's in town," and if he isn't then the line in #40 should be "Here she comes," not "ooh Here she comes."

In "Living on a Prayer" (#25), it should either be "Oh, we're halfway there" or "Oh, oh, we're halfway there" (it's definitely two notes and he doesn't say "yeah");

Posted by Ralphie (Member # 1565) on :

I agree.

The test is shifty. SHIFTY, I say.

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Yes, exactly. In fact, I think I may have seen a picture of this test not too long ago...
