Last Friday was the last day of my last round of chemo.
Abbreviated form, 'cause it's really a celebratory thread:
In February, I was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. Radiation and eventually chemo (fludara) followed. Ick.
I didn't miss much work, though, and things weren't as bad as they could be. And working at a children's research hospital where my sort of leukemia (CLL) isn't squat compared to what these kids are going through really kept my perspective in line.
Plus, I didn't lose my hair. (I really like my hair.)
Any definitive idea of where things are now are a little premature before mid-January, early February but still...
When the first of next month rolls 'round, I won't have to be infused with chemical poison! *parties*

I'm glad you're all right. Congratulations on not losing your hair.

Side note: My grandmother underwent chemo and lost her hair, and got several wigs. Here's the thing: my grandfather's never seen her without them. They're both fine with that - so, okay - but that seemed odd to me. I wonder why? I mean, heck, they've been married for almost sixty years!

That's makes me sad, though. They're happy, so this is all Katie-thinking, but I hate the thought of still playing the game after sixty years.
The romantic in me wants the person I'm married to to be the one person in the world I don't have to repackage myself for.

That's fantastic news! Congratulations! I'm glad that it wasn't as rough as it might have been.
By the way, how do you pronounce your Hatrack login? When I say it in my head I always go with "Asthma Q", but I'm guessing that that's a relatively rare pronunciation.

That's great to hear, Q. My wife's mom went through chemo a few years back for colon cancer and it was really hard on her, so I can imagine how happy you must be to be done with that. Right on!

Quiara is the coolest person, with the longest name, that you will ever meet (largely due to the fact that most of you are in America and will not likely ever meet me). kat, I agree and disagree. I would also hope that I not have to repackage myself for my spouse. But that's what works for me -- this works for her. And I didn't so much mean game-playing. Hmm. More that for some couples, part of keeping romance alive is tied to keeping some amount of mystery there. Maybe it is a sort of game, I guess. Dunno, it's not my thing, but I know others for whom it works. Maybe it's generational?

re: the initials, my parents (and everyone else for that matter) called me "ask 'em" for the first three years of my life. "What's that baby's name?" "Ask 'em." ^_~
When I was three, I went with Quiara on my own. It was shortened to Q in college 'cause it was easier than correcting the pronounciation constantly. (It got a little old). That's what I get for having nutsy parents. Who else would let a three year old choose by which name to be called? So if I'm a little odd, feel free to blame my parents.
