Well, I think I missed the last wave of Hatrack pregnancies, but perhaps I'll start a new one? Tom and I are very excited to be parents. Due Jun 20th.

Stayed home from work today, puking my guts out...not so fun [Frown] Hopefully that part will pass quickly.

Went to the doctor, though, and actually heard the baby on the doppler. That almost makes all this sickness worth while.

Good lord! Nobody expects pregnant Davidsons! Their chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and fear. Their two chief weapons are surprise and fear. And an almost fanatical devotion to the pope.

Oh, I'll come in again!

Congratulations guys! I've never met either of you in real life, but you both strike me as people who'll make wonderful parents (and with CT in the area, you know that she'll have the best aunt imaginable, not to mention first rate medical care.

You guys know what this means, don't you? Mini-Tom. The last thing we need is a baby putting "j/k [Wink] " in every other post. [Angst]

But in all seriousness, congratulations. I'm happy for you guys.

Thanks guys!

CT is a doll. I am anything but radiant. I am at least beginning to look a bit less deathly, though. I'm hoping this means that I'll get all the problems out of the way early, though, and have a remarkably easy delivery. My mom had both of hers within an hour of going to the hospital and easy deliveries. *hopes*

So we're back to the whole TED IV or not to TED IV. *grin* I'll be pleasantly surprised if it is a girl, but with Tom's family history, I'll be very surprised. Four uncles, and all but two had all boys.

I've been told to get all the sleep I can get now because it will be the last good sleep I'll get. My body doesn't seem to be giving me much choice. *laugh* Even if it is only in two hour stints.

I'm certain neither they nor we would be interested in such a competition, Lalo -- signifying, in my opinion, a greater likelihood that the four of us could actually be good parents.

Well, there go my dreams. And here I was making arrangements for a game show...

I hope you take my comment as a backhanded compliment to you and yours, rather than a serious proposal. No matter how fun it may be to watch you and Tom speed-stroller your kids back and forth from soccer practice and violin rehearsals.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

My problem with those "best parents" competitions is that people always demand a best two out of three rematch.

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

[Big Grin] @ Bob. I think we'll stick to one at first, or so I'm hoping. CT has already mentioned the possibility of twins. [Angst]

I didn't even consider it backhanded, Lalo. And our kids are taking piano, not violin. Definitely.

[Smile]

Serious suggestion, though: if you don't already own a glide rocker, buy one. As soon as you can manage to do so! So I was advised when pregnant with my first, and I heartily endorse the suggestion.

You will be glad of it as your pregnancy progresses, bringing tired feet, legs, and back. The soothing rocking motion helped me get through early labor (and later labor too, but that rocker belonged to the hospital [Big Grin] ).

And it's the absolute best place to nurse an infant. [Smile]

I'm glad dana bumped this thread -- I was computerless also at the time and had no idea! How wonderful, Christy and Tom! I'm so happy for you!

I'll second what rivka said about puking being a good sign, much as it isn't much fun. Pregnant with my son, I would prepare two breakfasts...the first I lost, the second I got to keep. Crackers never did much for me in helping alleviate the nausea, but a friend of mine *swears* by mild cheese. She said nothing else worked for her, and she doesn't even like cheese.

Congratulations, both of you! You're going to be great parents!

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

Actually, I went off my prenatal vitamin and have been feeling much better. My doctor said to try it again in a couple of weeks, but if it still produces the nausea to get childrens chewables. [Smile]

Thanks for the congratulations! Glad you pulled the thread out of the depths.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Which prenatal vitamin were you on? The only one I could take without getting sick (and my doctor recommended it, because she had had the same problem when she was pregnant) is the vanilla-coated ones. I think Ethex makes them?

Posted by Christy (Member # 4397) on :

I was on an over the counter generic (which I've been told is problematic by a lot of people). The one the pharmacist gave me when prescribed was only available in a small amount of pills in a perscription bottle, which I didn't really like because I didn't get the "ingredients" and had to keep refilling. They suggested I just get an otc.

Are the Ethex ones available otc? Do they have iron? We think that's what was causing the problem.

Christy, I have to be in dire pain to swallow pills. So for both my pregnancies, I took two Flintstones Complete a day. Worked fine for me, didn't trigger nausea that I know of. Toothpaste did though, making brushing my teeth each morning a two minute test of concentration.

No matter how icky the icky parts of being pregnant were, it couldn't take anything from the wonderful parts. The moment they put my son in my arms was easily the best of my life. My wedding days, wonderful vacations, the day I got that big raise, even the day my daughter was born, none of them compare to that first moment I became a Mom.

I hope it's that way for you too, Christy. [Smile]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

OTC prenatals have only been readily available for a few years, so that was not an option with my first (and I stuck with what worked for my others).

You can usually only get a 30-day supply of prescription ones thru your insurance carrier -- sometimes it's worth getting 100-day supply and paying out of pocket. (Last time, iirc, it was a $10 copay for each 30-day supply -- or I could pay $27.99 for 100-day supply. Thank goodness for intelligent pharmacists!)

But the paperwork that came with your prescription should have included "ingredients"! I think it's legally required to do so.

Anyway, these are the ones from Ethex, and I personally recommend them. Might be worth asking your doctor about them. [Dont Know]

They do have iron, but it's in a different formulation than most prenatals, specifically to deal with the nausea issue.

A nurse dietician friend of mine said that if you don't mix solids and liquids it helps with nausea. I had never heard that before, but she said it works. Eat crackers dry right when you get up, for instance, and don't drink anything until a while later.

Congrats Christy. If your little one comes 10 days early he/she can share a birthday with Mooselet.

There are a couple good websites you might want to try out. americanbaby.com and babycenter.com. I prefer the bulletin boards on American Baby to the boards on BabyCenter. They are much easier to get around.
