He picks lots of strange movies, and falls into them with ease. Somebody said we "love to see Ewan McGregor falling in love" and I think it's true. I HATED Down With Love because I hated the source material, but he's one of very few actors who can do 'love-struck' without making me gag. Then there's the whole lightsaber thing.
He has a HUUUGE talent, but will never win an Oscar (I predict) because of his tendency towards edgy projects, and pure, infantile jealousy on the part of Academy members.
One actor I can't stand is Al Pacino. HooHA! *shudder* He may be less repulsive now, but I'll never know.

The part in that interview where he talks about singing to his wife's belly before their oldest daughter was born... It's so sweet. It reminded me of Ron, actually. Ron used to sing to the boys before they were born. Of course, he also put headphones on my belly and played Koyanisquatsi to Robert, which I immediately swapped for Barber's Adagio for strings.

I read an interview where he talked about going to the grocery store with his wife and baby daughter while they were there filming. He had this hat on that had a label that said "Pervert". Well, the store was colder than he expected, so he put his nice warm hat on his baby. And, of course, got some looks. Which he described as, "Look! There's Satan! Satan with his baby!" *snort*

Yeah. Ewan doesn't have, you know, like a classically trained voice *cough* like my beloved *cough* but it's still a surprise to hear that sound coming out of such a relatively small man.

I haven't seen Ewan Mcgregor in anything other than the Star Wars Prelogy. I'm also not a Tom Hanks fan. I think I like Keanu Reeve best right now. That's a trend that's been going on for, oh, I don't know, 15 years. At which point it starts to get a little ridiculous.
Edit: That is SO weird. I brought up Tom Hanks, but at the time I began my reply, only Ewan McGregor had been discussed. Do DO do do (twilight zone music)

Tom Hanks is a very humane actor. I mean, you can't help but like him, even when his character does bad things. Like in Road to Perdition. My heart just broke for him.
But he has Oscars coming out his nose, and I know Ewan will never get one.

I have many favorite actors as well, but Ewan is my uberfave. There is just something about his eyes, especially when he smiles. It's just huge and wicked. His eyes just sparkle with this charm that fascinates me to no end. Really... I am very pathetic... hahahaha. But darn it, it's fun!

Not to say I don't love Ewan McGregor or anything...
Though I wouldn't call them my favourites, per se, I do like about half of Tom Cruise's work, most of Brad Pitt, nearly all of Edward Norton, darn near all of Matt Damon, and all both of the starring roles by Kieran Culkin.

I also like Liam Neeson, John Cusack, Kevin Spacey, and Christian Bale (he was good even as that kid in Empire of the Sun, and he's no slacker now. Just doesn't get a lot of mainstream exposure, but he can act.)
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck can both act, but Ben is more limited by type, I think. Loved him in Dogma (you know, when he comes face to face with God, and all his rage and defiance just evaporates, his eyes fill with tears and he says, "I'm Sorry"? OMG).
of the really young set, Kieren Culkin is supposed to be good, but I haven't seen any of his movies. I've liked Ryan Phillipe in the few roles I've seen him in. Ryan Gosling is another up-and-comer. He made Murder By Numbers _almost_ worth seeing. I'm lookingforward to his critically acclaimed turn in Believer, but haven't seen it yet.
Um, Hayden Christensen. Not for the Sucks Woefully prequels ( ) but in Life as a House, he was good, and he got good press for Shattered Glass, which I have not seen.
Or maybe it's that I go for guys in eyeliner. No, I really think he can act, if allowed to do so.
And OOOO1 Almost forgot Alan Rickman. Loove Alan Rickman.

Hugh Jackman brings a surprising amount of charisma to the screen, especially for a summer blockbuster comic book movie. Also, he's supposed to be really good at singing. He turned down Richard Gere's role in Chicago, cause he felt he was too young. Some people want him for the next Bond movies. Though I personally think there shouldn't be any more bond movies.

If Ewan McGregor is only 33 (yes, only) he still has longer than he's already been acting to win an Oscar. If he acts until he's sixty-five that's still 32 years, almost his whole life doubled.

My favourite actor is (was, I guess) James/Jimmy Stuart. Call me old fashioned. I think he's brilliant...

I love Jimmy Stewart! He reminds me of my grandfather (even in the movies where he's very young). I think it's mannerisms more than anything.
Johnny Depp is also a great actor. His choice of roles covers a wide range of strange things. He seems to LOVE trying to cover his pretty-boy image. Just saw Blow this past week, and he was nowhere to be seen. It's like he just disappears in movies. You can't say "He does X well, but he's not the Y type." He can do anything.

I think Ewan will not be considered for an Oscar until people are more comfortable with the fact that he's been casually naked in some of his movies (seems to be when the script or director wanted it that way, but I don't know for certain since I have not seen them all). There was that big kerfluffle about a brief nude scene in Young Adam that had US distributers planning to cut the scene. Which is kind of funny, in that females have been naked in American movies for years and years, but actresses who were thought of as 'serious' didn't show nudity until... Hmmm... Meryl Streep, I guess.
Then Halle Barry wins best actress for a performance that had at least one scene that was essentially soft core pornographic. But Ewan's willie makes people uncomfortable. He can kill hundreds of people with firearms and nobody bats an eye, but people get all upset over a glimpse of penis, just lying there, minding it's own business. Am I the only one who thinks that's whack?

You know, Silence of the Lambs really is one of the greatest movies ever. You can't deny that it really is a solidly made movie in almost every single aspect. And it's one of very few movies to have won the oscar for best picture, actor, actress, and director.

I'll see any movie this kid is in. There is something about his speaking voice which is charming. His clarity in pronounciation is remarkable and I'm not a little bit jealous. I also like John Cusack and Al Pacino.
