So yeah, it's my birthday, but instead of just saying "Hey, it's my birthday; be happy for me!" I thought I'd voice some of the milestone-related thoughts that have been going through my head.

See, today I'm 25. Gasp, I know. And about the only advantages to being 25 are lowered car insurance and the ability to rent a car. This I have known since the great anti-climactic turning of 22.

Anyway, while thinking about my life is not reserved for my birthday season, realizing what a bizarre life I've had in just 25 years is a new thing. I don't mean to say that my life has been any more tragic or scarring or full than anyone else's, regardless of age, but I am suddenly intrigued by my journey thus far.

I hesitate to elaborate for fear that this will inadvertantly turn into a landmark thread, and I don't believe I'm entitled to that yet. My overall point is that I feel like I'm finally starting to grow up and that my horizons are expanding. I've spent a lot of time in the past lamenting about how behind I am, especially in my love life. (Both of my brothers were married by this age, and a vast majority of my friends are as well.) Now, I think it's finally sunk in that I need to be more concerned about me, for one thing, but about where I am now as opposed to where I think I should be based on other people's lives. I have known for some time that my ultimate goals, which change every now and then, won't be achieved tomorrow or the next day, but I tend to overlook the fact that it is the things I do, the choices I make, the paths I follow that determine when and where I get where I'm going. It's like a burden lifted and placed at the same time.

Well, if I don't stop now, I may go on forever. Thinking caps off--party hats on. I like chocolate, pictures, and dvds...and I'm willing to share.

Happy birthday! And good for you for realizing you need to live your life, and no one else's. Good luck!

Happy birthday.

Do not look upon this day as yet another dreaded step away from youth...

Think about how much closer you are to that fun filled "Mid-Life Crisis". Start planning it now and avoid the rush.

Remember, you have to grow older, you don't have to grow up.

Look at Micheal Jackson. He was a child star. He was a great youth pop star. Now he is getting older, but he still has his childhood youth locked away where he can get to it whenever he wants. At least until the police find the kid in that secret room under the Neverland ranch.

You know, I think I went one step too far. Have a happy birthday.

Happy Birthday!

You know you've been working with cows too long when you get excited by the word ruminate! [Smile] We even had a kickball team this summer called the ruminators.

Happy birthday! You're halfway through your 20's decade and on your way to 30. I hope that greets you as the good news it is -- survey after survey indicates that the 30's are the best of your life. And you're almost there! [Big Grin]

Hoping your day is fun-filled and joyous!

Really? That's encouraging!

rivka, so I've heard. I've seen a couple of surveys that say so, though I couldn't find any of them through google. Personally, I think the 30's have been great so far. [Smile]

Thanks, everyone. The non-Hatrack birthday festivities went well. There was food. There was fun. There was a steady flow of mixed drinks. However, my dignity and reputation are intact.

Now, my party hat is back on the shelf, resting up for the next Hatrack birthday.

(P.S. Happy Birthday late, Banna.)
