Since beef stew is obviously out of the picture for a while.

With homemade corn muffins?

A nice cup of herbal tea?

Pull up a chair! Dig in! [Big Grin]

(Dang, I make good homemade soups!)

NEW INFORMATION

Get-together afternoon Sunday Jan. 11? (Unless Saturday the 10th is better?)I'll make some soup, interested Jatraquero's bring board games, etc., and themselves for rainy weather, or we can hit one of the nice hiking paths in good weather? What do you think?

*stays carefully away from Shan*

*cough*cough*

Would you put some over there ===> on the counter? I need some chicken soup, I am sick. But, since I am sick, I will eat it in a corner.

*cough*cough*

You're a doll, thanks.

We need a coughing Graemlin. Heh.

You need a turn on AIM button. *thwap*

And I'd eat some Shan, but I ALWAYS get the bone. ALWAYS. [Mad]

Are you kidding? Now that Japan has refused American beef, prices will plummet. Hope you have room in the freezer!

Oh jexx - you poor thing. Here -

*serves jexx steaming hot homemade chicken vegie soup, cornmuffins and tea with plenty of lemon and honey. also offers a quilt and slippers for warmth, plus the box of kleenex*

mack! I thoroughly de-bone my chickens, thank you! you will find nary a bone in this batch - although, the carrots are a wee bit crunchy . . . hmmm -

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

No, I DO believe you, Shan. It's this weird luck thing of mine. EVERY SINGLE TIME I've had homemade soup, no matter where from, I've gotten the bone.

O_o

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

And that's exactly what my face looks like, too.

Hmmm.

Hmmm.

I am exercising considerable refrainage.

Aw, what the heck. [Big Grin]

Yup. Now I have to give Sara a wedgie at Wenchcon.

[Big Grin]

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

I know, Tstorm.

And since (I believe) Shan's a chick, it makes a lot of sense. But pretty frank, for Mack.

Screw you all! [Mad]

YOU made it dirty!

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

mack, c'mon, we're trying to get off that topic. And you always get the BONE.

Wails in despair . . .

My husband says I am both dirty and inappropriate, and he loves it. [Smile]

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

You can be healthy and wholesome, too.

Okay, okay -- bad CT. Penance of 5 days off hatrack. *sigh

I hope ana kata never sees this.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! [Cry] [Cry] [Cry]

I'm going on vacation anyway, mack sweetie. My baby and I are driving to Winnipeg, a few hours north of Fargo. I try to send emails, though.

But I really have to stop myself. [Embarrassed]

*takes quilt and soup and etc and promises Shan a big ol' thank you hug when the virus has passed*

mack, I'm sorry, but my eyes feel like peeled grapes and I HAVE to get off of the computer.

*cuddles up in quilt, sips soup*

*giggles*BONE*giggles*

Yes, I am twelve.

Is that Soup at Hand?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Naughty girl!

[Big Grin]

CT! Don't leave just 'cause I whined - pretty please? (sniff)

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Ah, that would be knotty girl. [Big Grin]

No worries, Shan -- just taking a vacation. [Kiss]

*pulls up to table with large spoon in hand*
Ahem....

And CT, coming to Hatrack is a vacation. A week away from Hatrack is Exhile.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Here you go, Dan! Sorry about the wait. I was straining the soup for any stray bones, in case mack wanted some. [Razz]

Shan, where? when? I'm in!
I'm not sure when I'm going back to Oregon, or when I'm coming back, but I should be back by the 10th (of Janurary) and I'll be leaving the 16th (for school) any good time between those two dates for a gettogether?
Satyagraha

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Hmmm. Let's see - I teach three hours of Saturday school on the 10th and then I'm free for the rest of the day. Sunday is clear. Week-days = evenings. I take it you'd like some homemade soup? [Smile]

Anyone else?

Shall we have a spur of the moment Washington State get-together?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

bump.

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

*bump*

I'm going to have to figure out how to convince my mother to allow me to borrow her car, but I think this'll work
Satyagraha

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Heck - invite your mom along.

JNSB has cleared his calendar for the day.

Any other interested jatraqueros? I promise not to poison you. (No chicken bones either) [Big Grin]

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

*Psst* Hey Shan, the beginning post now says it's on Sat. Jan. 11th...but the 11th is a Sunday...I assume you still want to hold this gig on Sunday...

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Well, no wonder I'm so confused! Saturday or Sunday - which works best for y'all? And do you want chicken vegie soup or bean soup?

(Good thing you're keeping track of stuff, Jon!)

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

Mother has been convinced, I have the car.
Satyagraha

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

So which day do you have the car for? Saturday or Sunday? [Big Grin]

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

our conversation:
"so a friend invited me over to her house in olympia"
"need the car?"
"sure"

so whatever is easiest, originally thought saturday, but sunday works as well

Satyagraha

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

I think Jon cleared Sunday. I'm okay with either day.

Jon?

*Considers the merits of cornbread with soup versus buttermilk biscuits, apple pie versus apple crisp and tries to remember where the extension for the table went*

This is cool!

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

Either days is fine, just let me know far enough in advance so I can make plans for the other day...

Shan, I thought you had three hours of Saturday school teaching which made Saturday more difficult for you...?

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

How far is Olympia from Portland Shan? 3 hours or so?

I'm not sure about either day. That's just a crazy weekend, but if you guys decide on a day, I'll see what I can do about getting there. [Smile]

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

Cecily, It took me about 3 hours to get to Toni's house from Seattle, and that was with getting held up by a derailed train near Kelso. It should take about 2 hours from Portland to get to Lacey (which I think is where Shan lives) unless it is disastrously complicated to get to Shan's house. Hope you can make it!

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

I'm super easy to find, Cecily. Literally 4 turns off of I-5 near St. Martin's College.

And yes, Jon - I teach a third grade class Saturday morning but there's also church Sunday a.m. so either afternoon is okay. Let's do Saturday since that's the day Bernard got the car for?

*Is drawn away from the PC by the smell of freshly brewed coffee . . . mmmmmmm*

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

Narnia~ a typical drive from Portland to Olympia is 112 miles so going at 70 miles per hour it's rougly 90 minutes...of course because the road is usually clear, my father usually makes it down to about *ahem*anhour*ahem* for me it takes about 75 minutes.

Shan, what exit are you off of? I don't think we can do it, but knowing exactly how far it is would be helpful for me. [Smile]

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

:: Nods ::
I as well need directions via I-5, and possibly a phone number to call in case I get lost...could you possibly email that to me?

And I think I'm forgetting my manners THANK YOU FOR HOSTING!!!!! :: GLOMP :: (consider this e-glomp and IOU for a real glomp on Saturday)

Saytagraha

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

It'd sure be great if you all could make it! Love to have you!

I-5, Exit 108 (Sleater-Kinney) heading towards St. Martin's College.

Bernard, I will e-mail directions and phone number. Anyone else?

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

*drat*

I have to take the world's worst teacher training/graduate entrance exam on Saturday. It's going to last until noon (from 7:30 am!!) so I probably won't be able to make it.

We'll get together soon Shan, I miss you and Bernard (and I'd love to see Jon and Jennifer too.) Have tons of fun though and take pictures.

Posted by BYuCnslr (Member # 1857) on :

I shouldn't be the one asking this, but would you be able to come if we possibly rescheduled for Sunday? :: would have to make sure everyone else can make it ::
Satyagraha

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

Probably not. I have a bunch of church responsibilities in the afternoon on Sunday that I couldn't ditch. Don't worry though, I'll just have to haul my butt up there this spring or even sooner. [Smile]

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Weeellll - we could just eat chips until you arrive, my dear . . . [Big Grin]

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

[Big Grin] I love you guys for wanting me to go. Take many pictures and I'll rely on JonnyNSB to bottle the essence of the homemade soup for me.

*Tee-hee*

Gasp! Who has one of those funky cameras that you can put on the PC right away? Gasp!

Consider a digital camera and Enguin as part of my luggage and call me Bernard the Mobile Media Centre (note the centre to be arte-istic). [Big Grin]

Shan, thanks for the email...I can't make it. I have to go to Denver again next week. So this weekend will be full of preparing my family for me being gone for a week.

Have a great time, and take lots of pictures!

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Well shucks! Have a safe trip, jeni!

Bernard - around 1:30 p.m.? Sound good? Unless you want to come earlier and help tutor third graders . . . [Big Grin]

1:30 work for you, JNSB?

Anyone else?

Homemade soup . . . the best possible homemade soup in the whole world . . . a fun almost 10-year old, lots of board games, a pretty kitty, good tunes . . . and picture-taking! None of which holds a candle to the company! A chance to prove yourself real! Come on - don't be shy!!!!

Awesomeness, how are the roads looking? They're starting to scare me...if they stay completely frozen....I may not even get up to Seattle till Sunday...they're starting to thaw out right now...hopefully the weather will warm up.

Ah! That was awesomeness!!!!
Well then, I drove down to Shan's house...after leaving an hour later than I thought I would...the first part of the drive was rather uneventful...though once I got off I-5 I was completely lost...I spent the better part of an hour trying to find her house (I hate suburbia), but once I found it, it was awesomeness from then on! It was Shan, her son, two of her friends, and me, sitting around and drinking tea (mmmm....tea), and then dinner. Dear Goodness!!!! That was some awesome soup! I was torn between being full and wanting more. Post-soup, we had a few rounds of Uno (vicious they were), and then two games of Spoons....a most harrowing card game, I'll tell you! After that, I had to leave, and the drive back was rather foggy but good, especially with awesome soup in me...mmmmmmmmm and... No bones! :: glomps Shan again ::
T'ANK 'OU!!!!!!

Wow! Sounds like you had a great time! I'm sorry I couldn't make it! Stupid car alarm... [Grumble] I didn't get to meet Shan or Bernard and I didn't get to bottle the essence of the soup for Narnia! [Cry]

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

The company was divine! I was so glad that Bernard could make it and meet a couple of my "real-time" friends, Doug and Laura. Jon, we were all sorry not to meet you! I'll second the stupid car alarm comment. We'll just have to get together another time and yes, spoons is a wicked game! We all laughed hysterically.

Bernard and I have a gift we want to send mack . . . [Evil]
