Am I missing something really obvious? I have mozilla Firebird and IE, but I always use mozilla. I clicked on the thing to get the java runtime environment, installed it, but it still won't work. Is it possible to use Hatrack Chat with Mozilla, or do I have to install the JRE for IE?
EDIT: Does anyone know how to get it to work with Trillian, without having to have someone invite me every time?

If you want to talk to lots of Jatraqueros, there are far more who use AIM than parachat. Most times of day you can find anywhere from a couple to a couple dozen (well, rarely THAT many, unless many Myrs are present) in the chatroom called, oddly enough, "Hatrack Chat."

I think I do my fair share to contribute the population of Hatrack Chat at times.

I tried joining Hatrack Chat through Trillian, but nobody was there, does anyone know how to get it to work with trillian? I don't really want to download AIM, I suspect it is made by the devil to bring souls down to hell.

Indeed. But Myr has SO many alter-egos, I don't think anyone else is in the same ballpark.

Hmm. I know several people use Trillian, but I am not among them. I think fugu might be . . . ?
Of course, it's also possible that you just happened to go at a time no one else was around.

Is there anyone in there now?
Posted by Koga (Member # 5646) on :
There are a few people there now, but no one is saying much.

I think someone may need to send me a chat invitation or something, my AIM: sbporter747 (I am aware that my AIM ID sucks, it was all I could come up with at the time)

I don't use Trillian, but have you tried adding yourself as a friend and then inviting yourself? That's what I do on AIM.
Posted by Liquor and Fireworks (Member # 5785) on :
thank you (whoever sent the invitation)

I was looking for something like that in the options, but it doesn't appear to be there, I guess I'll have to install AIM if I want to use Hatrack Chat.

Nope, I'm on trillian and it's quite easy. Just add yourself as a buddy, right-click on you and then click "invite to chat". Works just fine.

Hobbes is right, that's how I do too.

I've tried to use trillian to connect to hatrack chat on AIM, but there's never anyone in the room (I'm using 1.0 pro). However, if I sign off and use AIM to sign in, I can see people there.
I think we should just go to IRC for chatting (maybe on Effnet)

Hmm. I probably shouldn't contribute to my own delinquency by pursuing the possibility of chat any further. But I agree with L and F about the evilness of AOL.
Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :
If we do IRC (which seems unlikely, since most are content with AIM chat, I think), I'd prefer Undernet. I do think IRC is better for group chat, and AIM better for one-on-one chat.

I sure wish they would let us use AIM at work here. We have MSN messenger (which I have on now) but we aren't allowed to load AIM.
I have AIM at home, but am rarely on the computer there, because the kids are always on it.

Ooh, I have MSN Messenger... pooka50@hotmail.com

I tried inviting myself (I found it now) but it didn't work. Is the chat room "Hatrack Chat" (without the quotes)?
Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :
Pooka thanks! I added you to my list now. But I'm getting ready to leave work, so I'm about to sign off!

L&F, yep!

Is it case sensitive? Because I always go to "hatrack chat". Whenever my office firewall is feeling friendly, that is.
Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :
Doesn't seem to be. I sometime capitalize, sometimes don't. I think I had my caps lock on once, and it worked anyway, iirc.

What in the heck is Trillian? And while you're at it...what's Mozilla?
Just curious.
Posted by Liquor and Fireworks (Member # 5785) on :
Trillian is an instant messaging program that works with AIM, ICQ, IRC, Yahoo, and MSN. So instead of having to open multiple IM programs, you can use one.
Mozilla is a web browser which is based on Netscape, and has more features and security than Internet Explorer (when I say netscape, don't picture that old version some people still cling to, that one sucks).
Posted by slacker (Member # 2559) on :
Grr....I hate netscape. Our version (4.6) at work loves to hang up if you click on a link while a page is loading. Lovely.
I'm using Firebird at home, which is based on Mozilla, and is very nice at blocking scripts and popups.
Firebird Posted by Liquor and Fireworks (Member # 5785) on :
At my school they still have netscape 4.73 or one of the 4.7x series, It freezes pretty frequently and makes doing assignments a pain. I don't think they understand that they should update it, they probably think it will break something.

Well, after pulling my head out of my butt, I got it to work. Hooray for me!
