Anyone else snowed in tonight?

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on :

I've been stuck in the house all day.
Not snow, just enough sleet to make the roads a mess.

Welcome to hatrack, thrak! [Wave]
(edit: hey, that rhymed! [Smile] )

Sleet now on top of snow from yesterday. The roads are nasty here.

Poetry already? Coolness. [Cool]

Any suggestions to pass the time tonight? Movie suggestions?

Welcome, thrak! What made you decide to make the leap from lurker to poster? Tell us all about yourself. If you've been lurking you already know all about us so it's only fair. [Smile]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Awesome! I look forward to our upcoming friendship! [Monkeys]

Fair enough Aka.

I am a computer programmer from Raleigh NC. I used to work on games, but moved to a more secure position. I have been reading OSC since he taught at App State in the 80's. I am a big fan of Philip K Dick and if anyone can guess the origin of my handle, they could guess my favorite band.

I also grew up in the mountains and hope to move back someday. I dig Bluegrass and Punk (Is that strange?).

I know. Information overload.

I will be quiet for a bit now.

If you're bored, you could watch Pirates of the Caribbean.
*is watching it right now*

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on :

Or, you could've hung out in the last post thread, but it's gone now. [Frown]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Yeah, where did it go?

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Pirates is a good suggestion. I am also considering some movies like Fargo or The Shining for the snowed in feeling.

Last post thread got deleted. [Frown]
But I had the last post this afternoon! [Big Grin]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

I wish things were good enough to be hiring Richard. As soon as things turn around, I will let you know.

I miss the last post thread, nothing makes sense anymore [Angst]

Wow, guys, let go, it's ok! *pat pat*

Congrats, Eru, on having the last post...

FARGO! YES!

I just saw "Down With Love" again, I love that movie!

Has anyone seen All the Real Girls ? It was filmed in the mountains of NC. Perhaps I will watch that...

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on :

I'm waiting to see how long it will be before there is a new last post thread... [Wink]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Thanks for another poem, Bob.

I haven't seen Down with Love. That's the one with Ewen, right?

Posted by Eruve Nandiriel (Member # 5677) on :

Ewan McGreggor and Renee Zellweger.
I haven't seen it, but I want to.
*sigh* He's so hot. [Wink]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Renee ain't bad either. [Eek!]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

*swoons* Ewan: [Kiss]

Yes, it is great. I like it. Nobody else does, but I do. [Razz]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

I jest saw Big Fish and I thought Ewen was great... still I would prefer Renee even it was from Cold Mountain (wish she was awesome in). [Blushing]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

I WANNA SEE "BIG FISH" SO BADLY!!! *pouts*

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Raia, it is great movie. I am glad I saw it alone though. It is tough for me to see a movie about a son and his father without getting emotional. [Cry]

Posted by Richard Berg (Member # 133) on :

I agree -- I'm no softie, but something about the "passing on of generations" theme gets me every time. The metaphor used is especially well filmed here.

Thrak, I'm just putting out feelers like any other local senior, so thanks for whatever info you have. Feel free to contribute to my beverage fund by participating on Party Poker, of course [Smile]

Posted by Raia (Member # 4700) on :

Awwww, thrak, I can imagine!!

But I have a huge group of friends who all want to go see it, so I might have to put up with them while I let my emotions wild. [Wink]

I've heard amazing things about it, though!

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Anytime Richard. If you are local to the triangle, perhaps we can get a table together some night.

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Raia, I am sure you will love it with your friends. I think that Richard explained my situation well... [Big Grin]

You DO have a welcome thread! Welcome! Where did you find the Tron game? '84? '85? It's sooo hard to remember those days . . . like anyone would want to . . . except for Wayne's World, of course - kind of like what Grease did for my mom's generation, I suppose . . .

*ends rambling*

Just remember what Bob said - now that you're here - you'll never go. They might even offer to pay to make you stay. [Wink]

*also a long time lurker*

And if school gets cancelled tomorrow (today?), I may get to do even more lurking.

*lurks*
*shifty eyes*

Hello, and welcome to Hatrack. I lurked for a while too, but before I registered. I don't remember how long, and at the time, I just wanted to hear people's opinions on things; I didn't care what their names were. Now I wish I would have paid more attention, as figuring who's who would be a lot easier now.

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Shan, the Tron game is currently in storage, but I hope to find room for it in my house soon. Tron was the inspiration for me to become a programmer, so it holds a special place in my heart. [Big Grin]

Da Goat, I know what you mean. Now I am trying to remember what I read from whom. Tough job.

So, thrak, you are named after a King Crimson Album/Song, yes? [Cool]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Wow. Eslaine you are correct. Few get that connection.

[Hail]

Hullo thrak!

[Wave]

I hope you get to meet some jatraqueros someday soon. They're just as cool in real life! (so far as I know [Smile] )

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Hey Jexx. [Wave]

It would be awsome to meet some jatraqueros in person. If only I could be so lucky.

<--Saw King Crimson twice. Saw the first "Bears" show, Adrian Belew's solo effort band.

You have excellent taste. Maybe I should register "Matte Kudesai" as an SN!

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Eslaine, I have a Bears CD, but I haven't had the chance to catch them live. I have traveled to Nashville/Chicago and West Palm Fla to see KC until they finally played in NC for the first time in over 30 years. Seeing Crimso play at the Orange Peel in Asheville was a dream come true. Great venue.

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

Fun! They are amazing to see perform, going from a complete improv into a tight off-time song, and back. They've done things live that no one else I've seen have done.

Do you visit Discipline Global Mobile?

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Yes, I am been on the DGM web. I must admit that when it comes to King Crimson, I can be a bit of a geek. Is that allowed around here?

I would have loved to have seen them back in the 70's Lark's era. At least many of those shows are available on CD. [Smile]

*nearly pees self laughing*

Yes, dear. *pat*pat* That is completely allowed.

[Evil Laugh]

Liking KC and DGM has little to do with biting the heads off of chickens.

Doesn't it? [Dont Know]

Nerd then? [Razz]

Posted by thrak (Member # 5499) on :

Eslaine, so when did you see KC?

I have seen only seen them in the Double Duo configuration (2001-2003).

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

I do date myself.

Doesn't date you.. just says that you had better taste than me during the eighties. At that time, the concerts I was attending were Huey Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, 38 Special, and Eddie Money.

I love the Discipline era Crimso. Thela Hun Ginjeet is my favorite tune. I was so glad when they played that in Nashville the first time I saw them.

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

"...'n he was holding a gun against me...."

Actually, my interest in KC started in the 80's incarnation. I had been following Fripp's solo career, and in the vinyl on Exposure is etched "The next step is discipline".

Once I bought Discipline, I was hooked by polyrythym and tight progressions. I have always liked strange time signatures. I was amazed when he brought Adrian Belew with him. Belew had been brought in as a hired gun on both Bowie's Heroes tour and with Talking Heads.

To watch the two duel on stage is amazing. They feed on each other, often taking turns on the rythym, while the other pulled an amazing, completely unheard-of-before solo off.

They are/were/will be awesome. What a great SN you've chosen.
