The hour before going to work passes by slower than the hour before going home?! It's so UNFAIR!
Even watching crappy Dharma and Stupid Greg doesn't make the time go by slower.
I just want to sit here and play with this punk music program and not have to stuff bags. [Frown]

Let me get this straight -- you are complaining and yet you get to watch TV at work?

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

Yeah, I'm not following... you're more unhappy at home than at work?

And heh, I wouldn't see tv-watching as a benefit. More like a punishment, to have to sit in front of the tube. [Smile]

When I read this title I hear my mom singing

Tell me why the stars do shine
Tell me why the ivy twines
Tell me why the sky is blue
And I will tell you just why I love you.

[Smile]

Because.

But seriously, does anyone else ever wonder if OSC is able to funnel the time we waste here into a repository for finishing his books and reading all those mystery novels?

Um...no.

And, yeah, Synesthesia, I'm assuming you meant the opposite of what you said, right? Or do you stuff bags at home, and listen to music and watch TV at work? And if so, are they hiring?

i don't get to watch tv at work. i get to stand for hours packing groceries into bags.
with not enough music...
i need an mp3 player, one so small they won't know I'm listening to much needed tunes

Dang, I wish I had a job that involved listening to music all day long and getting paid 20 bucks an hour to do that... since I listen to music almost all day and I'm awake about.. maybe... 15-20 hours...i'd get 20 X 20 bucks... [Big Grin]

TV was before work. Time-dragging is cuz of that 'sigh... I gotta go back to work' feeling.

Be determined to have fun with any job that doesn't require ones full concentration.
Stuffing grocery bags? Play it like Tetris, etc. And smile at the customer like you just hit Highest Score when you finish.
Silly, but silly makes other people happier. And their happiness feedbacks to you.

Pretend the job is a zany role in a comedy. Method act being the type of person who can fall child-like into his/her own imagination: eg who makes gathering grocery carts into a car race -- with grabbing scattered carts as pitstops -- across the parking lot, or a surfing demonstration; finding a product on the shelves into a scavenger hunt in which speed is of the essence to win; etc, the possibilities are endless. Except for the grumpiest of the grumpy, people find their own spirits uplifted just watching the playful attitude.

There's a dude in NewYork who was given the job of making a window display of fresh fish and on sale specials. Rather than playing it straight, he decided to make: "macaroni art" using shellfish; collages by adding small toys, "found objects", and other bric-n-brac; a 'moment preserved' story by introducing themes; etc.
Now he has many fans who consider him a true conceptual artist; who visit the neighborhood just to see and sometimes photograph his latest work. And his boss is happy cuz some fans will also "as long as I'm near a fish store" buy a few items.

Because God made you, dkw, that's why I love you.
You know, I was once in a barbershop quartet that sang that song. We actually won $100 in a musicfest competition. It's a sad day when barbershop quartets can win anything.

Ah, the memories...

Oh. Um. Stupid job, whine whine whine, blah blah blah.

dkw made me think of it...

Why do the birds go on singing
Why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know, it's the end of the world,
It ended when you said, goodbye...

(now that is going to be my earworm for the rest of the day)

Singing makes the time go faster and it cheers me up.

Not if you can only remember half of the chorus, which is usually my problem.

Just remember, if your job is something you love to do (such as listen to music) it will suddenly become a job and not be as much fun anymore.

Keep your fun/hobbies away from work. As soon as you are forced to do it, it just isn't any fun anymore.

hmm. I don't know... I love music so much listenin gto it could never be a chore, unless it was horrible boring pop music.
And also rap

If what you say is true, Tullaan, could we start paying lazy slobs for being lazy slobs, and in effect make them into hard working citizens?
