Let me first state that I don't think Janet Jackson was innocent in the shirt ripping incident, nor do I think she was the most guilty party. But in the media frenzy that has followed, she is getting the most - uh - coverage. In fact, I can't even remember the name of the guy who did the ripping.

CBS is being pelted with protest but MTV is not. I guess the FCC problems the protesters hope to press only apply to CBS (and their affiliates) as the broadcasters.

Don't forget they are both owned by the same people.

You have come to expect things like this on MTV.
You have not come to expect things like this from CBS.

Most of the protesters already boycot MTV for purely taste reasons. They, however, don't want this to become commonplace on public airwaves.

The FCC has no legal basis for fining MTV. All MTV did was produce a show. CBS broadcast that show so they are the ones whom the FCC can legally fine.

CBS can then turn around and sue MTV. If they weren't owned by the same company, I'm sure they already would have.

Were you referring to MTV and CBS, or Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake?

Oh for crying out loud. It was obviously planned, she had a pasty on, it was funny, who cares? Its no different than lil kim's outfit a couple years ago at the VMA's. she was exponentially more covered than any july day at any beach.

This is ludicrous.

Uh, odouls, it wasn't a pasty. Take a look at a closeup. It was definitely a nipple ring attached by a piercing, and it covered a lot less than a bikini or anything else legal in most states could (interestingly not including New York, where it is allowed by the state for women to go topless whereever men can: http://www.fltimes.com/Main.asp?SectionID=38&SubSectionID=121&ArticleID=1476 ).

Though I agree that its not nearly the big deal that's been made about it.

Wow. really? wow.

I stand corrected. I have not taken a look at the closeup, I only saw it the one time. But i take your word for it.
