In school I just finished reading Fahrenhiet 451 and realized that I loved it and that it was originaly a short story called The Fireman. I searched the internet looking for it, but came up with nothing. I was wondering if anyone has any information on it? I would really appreciate it and I really, really want to read it. Thanks! Ray Bradbury is fabulous, isn't he? [Big Grin] He's probably my favorite author ever. I'm not sure which anthology you might find The Fireman in, but I'll look around. Most of his best works are collections of short stories; he wrote very few novels. If you haven't read anything else of his, I must reccommend The Illustrated Man and The Martian Chronicles. Enjoy!

The Fireman was first published in Galaxy Magazine in February 1951 and you can get it here. [Smile]

I'm not sure who this Bradbury fella is, but The Fireman was released in 1984--a hit single by George Strait off of his "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind" album.

Good song.

Didn't bradbury just publish a big collection of short stuff? Seems like he did.

I just read "The Veldt" by Bradbury. Great story.

"Galaxy Science Fiction, February 1951. Contains the Ray Bradbury short story "The Fireman" which Bradbury expanded into the novel Fahrenheit 451."

...so in other words, Calvin Maker says to find a copy of Galaxy from 1951. Chances are he might have one, if it has any OSC stories in it. [Razz]

I've looked through the biggest anthology I could find, Stories of Ray Bradbury, but no luck. You could try this anthology (which has BRILLIANT cover typography, by the way), but I don't think it's been re-printed at all.

I guess you might just have to work through all of his other short stories. That'll keep you busy for a few years.

Or you could go to abebooks, amazon zshops, or half.com.

I'll go check them myself now.

At Barnes and Noble there wasn't an unopened copy of that calendar to be found.

Hey, thanks y'all for responding you've been great help. I haven't read any other novels by him, but I have seen the movie "Something Wicked This Way Comes". It's a pretty good movie.

Now to watch!
