My mom smelled alcohol from my brother today. The weird thing is, though, that when she sniffed him, real close, it's not his mouth that smelled, but his nose. And eyes. [Confused]

He says he hasn't had any alcohol, and I see no reason not to believe him, but my mom is never wrong about smells.

So, anyone know what can make his eyes and nose smell this way? This does sound silly, but if it is alcohol (and my bro is not the best-behaved kid) we'd like to react quickly.

[Confused]

I know that yeast in the body can metabolize sugar and produce alcohol. I know this especially can happen in urine and is a sign of diabetes.

Have no clue if this happens in nose and/or eyes (if it happened in sinuses, the eyes might smell anyway).

Hope everything's OK with him.

Some types of poorly cooked bread smell like alcohol, from the yeast.

Well there is one possibility. I have acne issues sometimes (at 19 [Mad] ) and I used alcohol based astringent. My mom thought I was drunk for second, then I had her smell the stuff I used. [Dont Know]

Well, it's almost certain that if it's being excreted in the tears/mucus, it would probably be in the saliva as well.

I think.

Hey Nick, I don't that's abnormal for nineteen year old guys. Give it a couple more years.

He also had a nose bleeding some days ago. No reason, first time in his life. [Confused]

Any chance he's diabetic? Diabetics can often smell that way, and can even act kinda "drunk" when they are having a reaction.

Maybe he's sniffing something? I can't think of what would smell like alcohol, but that's what comes to mind when I think of nose bleeds. That, and snorting heroine. But that's only cause of Pulp Fiction, and i guarantee that's not what happened [Wink]

maybe he swished with baking soda to get the smell out of his mouth, but didn't think of the nose and eyes [Dont Know]

The mental picture of one person bent over another smelling their nose and eyes is a little more than I can handle right now. [Big Grin]

Maybe he got kissed by a drunk? Wouldn't have been on his breath, would it?
