Please argue here, because I'm tired of off-topic bickering disturbing discussions. Feel free to copy relevant portions from other threads, and have at it.

Geez people! I get enough of this in RL ("Liam touched me!" "Did NOT" "Make him stop!" *wavesd hands close to sibling* "I'm not touching youuuuu...")

*hug* Sorry, Livvy.

I'll admit the request for compliments was a little snarky. I was feeling attacked, and it was something I both felt like I needed, and knew it would bug the crap out of her without actually being insulting.

No catfights. Or kat-fights. Or fights at all. *pouts* I even conceded a point in that thread. Is that why? It looked like weakness?

Anyway, it's okay. [Smile] Thank you.

So, wait, you're apologizing to Olivia? Excuse me? Two people have said that your apparent lack of respect towards them is bothersome, and not only do you not have a word of apology, you insult them.... but Olivia gets an apology? I guess it's clear that your ability to be polite is on a per-person basis.

Just to get things straight, kat has, in fact, NOT apologized at all. She has dismissed both Sun and I, and implied that we are both ridiculous for caring, but she has not apologized. To the contrary, I find each one of her last few posts on this thread to be highly condescending.
Just to note that Suneun appears to have stopped fighting this particular fight on that thread (meaning, her last posts are on topic and part of continuing the conversation therein). I find her approach rather mature.

Actually, Dag, she was. She's since gone back and edited it, though.

Plenty of people, kat included, seem to think that kat is a sweet, innocent angel without an unkind word for anyone. However, having seen countless instances of her passive-aggressive insults and a general disrespect for those who don't share her views, I'm not inclined to share in this belief.

Ayelar, I don't mean to take kat's side as I kind of missed the whole mispelling bit. I know kat can get a little tunnel-visioned at times in her style, even when one agrees with her substance. But I thought there was a thread a long time about about screen ID's and you said yours stood for A L R. Now you weren't inviting people to use it, of course, but I'm a little puzzled that it offends you.

Posted by Ayelar (Member # 183) on :

pooka, as with any other all-caps word, I find it jarring to see it spelled that way. But, more to the point, I mentioned my preference to both her and John a while back. John stopped. kat still does it, though she spells my name the way I prefer it in the threads where she isn't trying to "bug the crap" out of me.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Oy. Does ANYBODY remember when Kat and I had our flame war? We were entirely horrible to each other, though I was too emotional at the time to have stored the specifics of what I said, as I was coming from a place of almost pure emotion. I do know that she infuriated me, and I did my best to hurt her. *ashamed* We both tried to hurt each other, and ended up hurting ourselves in the process.

It is nothing short of miraculous that we're friends now. I get the giggles just thinking about it. It's ridiculous, in a way. I think it started as a tentative, 'get to know your enemy ' sort of thing. I think we have begun to annoy each other less since we accepted that our basic personality traits are fairly similar (the things about each of us that we like the least in ourselves).

I only wish that all Hatrack Catfights (or Flame Wars, for you manly types) could yield such strange and wonderful friendships.

I didn't start this thread to fight her battles, or defend her, though. What's between you guys is not really my business.

You're going to have to take my word for it, but I've never misspelled someone's name on purpose. The only time I changed someone's name on purpose to try and annoy them was saxon75! Added: And that was trying to be funny. [Frown]

I'm just a very, very bad speller. *sigh* And that time I was even trying. I was proud for remembering the N went at the end.

Ayelar, I have no memory of you expressing displeasure over being called the initials that your username comes from. As I KNOW I can spell that, and it's shorter, that's what I used when I wrote in a hurry. *raises palms in air* I've edited stuff in that thread, but only to add. I haven't edited the spelling of anyone's name.

This is so wildly out of nowhere I'm trying to figure what the heck is going on. I mean, it CAN'T be the name thing. People misspell my name ALL THE TIME and it bugs me, but not this much. Something has inspired an attempt at character assasination. What's going on?

As questionable as it may sound, some people use "poo" as an endearment, I imagine it's derived from "boo" [Dont Know] A former co-worker used to call me that all the time and after the first couple of "what did she just call me" reactions, I was fine with it. But I definitely understand people not liking it and I would never call anyone that.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Wow are we all just really, really TRYING to get offended around here? Me too. I mean everyone's all crappy today.

Someone should just call me PIS and get it over with.

Oh and, I really like (edit to add: the name, so it wouldn't end up in OOC) poo.

would it be Pooh? as in Winnie the Pooh?

Katharina, I guess one of the reasons why mispelling a name after someone specifies that they are sensitive on the issue bothers me is because it APPEARS inconsiderate, even if it really isn't. To me this is extremely inconsistent (I won't go as far as saying hypcritical) with your testimony as someone of the LDS faith. This is simply someone from the outside looking in, but I've come to expect a higher standard of behavior from LDS people after partipating in this forum.

Didn't she say it was an accident?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

[Frown] I'm really, really not trying to spell someone's name wrong. I knew Ayelar got her name from her initials, that's easier to write, and I missed her saying she didn't like being called that. I was really, really trying to spell Suneun's name right. I was so careful about the N at the end I missed the middle. I don't want to be in a catfight. I'm not sure how I ended up in one, although I do apologize about the demand for a compliment. Poor impulse control, and part of my brain (the evil part) thought it would be funny.

I believe you that it is an accident. The thing is it happens repeatedly.

I was just trying to explain the reason why it bothers me. I mean, if it was someone you were inviting to church, wouldn't you bend over backward to get the name right? But it seems (note the seems, I'm not saying it is your intent) that you won't extend the courtesy to someone who disagrees with you. This is why I see them getting upset.

Apparently my screen name is easy to remember, which I find horribly funny because it is a derivative of my real name which always gets screwed up in real life.

Guy: "I already go. Don't you remember me?"
Me: "Um...."
Guy: "It's Alex. You invited me last month - I'm getting baptized on Saturday?"

I guess I needed a smiley there, I was kidding about being offended. Though this ID was chosen during a member number race (which I obviously lost), so not deeply thought out.

My mother in law, however, was not allowed to read or talk about Winnie the Pooh growing up. Just the tip of the iceberg.

Which essay, mack? I kind of had my fill of arguing last night or I'd just check Hobbes thread or the Rejoice in love thread.

I rarely read essays that are linked. When on Hatrack, I want to know what other Hatrackers think, so unless it's a summary of a study and I want to corroborate the poster's interpretation, I almost never follow links. If it has a cogent argument, then the poster can summarize it.

I also don't expect people to follow any links I post, although I rarely do it unless someone asks for an official interpretation of something.
