So if the ultrasound says I have a cyst on my spleen, what do I have to do to "keep an eye on it," and how do they tell that it's a cyst and not, like, a tumor or...a small leprechaun, or something?

*wanders off to fret*

Well, by "keeping an eye on it", they probably mean that you will need to have periodic ultrasounds to watch for any changes in the cyst (changes ups the changes that it's a nasty tumor). The only way to know for sure what it is is to either biopsy it or remove it, which wouldn't be much fun, so they'd rather wait to have a reason to do it (changes in size/shape/etc.) before cutting you open.

I wouldn't fret about it yet. [Smile]

yeah, don't worry about it.

i freaked when i first read through your post because i know they followed my sister's ultrasound with a biopsy of the cyst. then i remembered that her cyst was the size of a grapefruit, which was the real concern (not simply that it existed). and keep not worrying, because even at that size, hers was still just a cyst.

I figured they wanted you to have a small window installed and, using a series of mirrors, take a peek at your spleen a couple of times a day just to see what's doing.

Yikes! Glad it's harmless.

Why did you get an ultrasound? Is there other symptoms?

I got the ultrasound because the doctor thought there was something wrong with my gallbladder, and because I have a lot of abdominal tenderness and nausea and other such unpleasant things.

Everything was okay except for my spleen, and I have to take pills for acid reflux or ulcers or something. I guess my high-strung, stress-inviting nature finally caught up to me?

Or your body is defective...do you have a good warranty?

If you don't have rainbows springing out of your belly, we can pretty much write off the whole Leprechaun theory.

However, please contact your physician immiediately if they should start appearing regularly.

What if you only get them every once in a while? Does that warrent a doctor visit?

I always thought it was funny when my doctor would diagnose an ovarian cyst (which was a monthly occurrence for a while) and then say "Watch it, and let me know if there are any changes."

Um...sure Ted. I can do that. [Dont Know]

I know, I know, he meant pay attention to any changes in my symptoms, but the verbage was still amusing.

I would not worry, pH. Really. In all likelihood it will be gone when you have your next ultrasound.

First find the pot of gold. Then you don't have to worry so much about medical expenses.

I'm not really a Leprologist (medical person specially trained in the diagnosing and removal of Lebrechauns) but I did play one on TV (I climbed up on my TV and started shouting repeatedly "Look at me. I'm a Leprologist." But the medication soon kicked in. I'm feeling much better now).

I would say that intermittent Belly Rainbows are nothing to be worried about. There are over the counter medications that will remove any discomfort.

However, if you find yourself apparently very pregnant after one of these events you may want to check with your doctor. You may be the holding place of a pot of gold.

In such cases DO NOT allow the doctor to put you under general anesthisia if he goes to remove this inappropriate blockage. Patients have been known to wake up from the Leproctomy with nothing but an empty bucket, while the Doctor drives off in a new Lexus.

Leprechauns are silly. And they're short.

But they can be lethal...

The link was blocked, deemed Pornography. No worries, so is OSC's Uncle Orson column. I was jus trying to be funny. I'll stop now.

Uncle Orson deemed pornography? That is funny on so many different levels.

Yeah, but as amusing as it is, it is also very frustrating. I'm afraid to say something, though, because my luck, they'll make the entire site off limits, and I won't be able to get to the forum.
