I don't watch it often (no cable), but as much as I liked Craig Kilborn, I think Jon Stewart is better. He's got better comedic timing and is a much better ad-libber than Kilborn. Plus Kilborn's smug projector is turned on a couple levels to high (and I can tell -- no one knows more about smug projectors than me).

I have no trouble believing this at all. In fact, I'm surprised that the percentage is so low.

I myself have found it difficult to care about politics. I believe that I *should*, but it is so frustrating and emotionally draining saying informed with politics. I mean, how can we be as stupid as we act? <gruble>

I'm working myself into a tizzy. I'll just end this here.

Truthfully, I've never really watched Stewart much. But I liked Kilborn's smugness...that's what made it so funny for me. (Same with Henson.)

I'll fully admit that The Daily Show is the ONLY news program I watch. Of course, the show assumes that, like me, its typical viewer obtains their news from another source FIRST (probably the Internet feeds); otherwise, the jokes just aren't particularly funny.

Let me say, by the way, that Stewart is -- hands-down, no questions asked, no contest even POSSIBLE -- the single best interviewer working in news today. He's gotten admissions out of people that I've seen absolutely dance rings around Diane Sawyer, mainly because he's not afraid to come out and say something like, "Well, you know, just between you and me and our cable audience here, isn't that basically a load of crap?"

I remember an old commercial for the Daily Show, where Jon Stewart said:

"In a recent poll, it's been reported that x% of people get their news from the Daily Show. And I have one thing to say to you people...DON'T DO THAT! We make things UP! We don't know what we're DOING!"

I love the Daily Show. As Tom says, you need to already know what they're talking about, or it isn't as funny -- so you have to get your news from somewhere else (in my case, news.google.ca and the CBC).

Did anybody here watch Jon Stewart's short-lived syndicated talk show?

I thought it was fantastic -- way better than anybody (Kilborn, O'Brian, Kimmel, Leno) since early Letterman. And in some ways it was a better format for him than the Daily Show because it allowed him to show off his interview skills better because he had more time with his guests. Plus the show always had great musical guests -- usually 'alternative' bands.

He also did some great skits. His one-(wo)man production of the life of Anna Nicole Smith was hilarious.

I, for one, get all my news from the internet (and not by looking for porn either ). That way I don't have to wait till 6:00 or whatever time the news is on. It's updated 24 hours a day. When something really big is out, I buy a newspaper. I think I'm becoming allergic to TV.

I'd find it really depressing if people took any form of television media as their sole source of news. Newspapers are a hell of a lot more informative.

I adore Jon Stewart, but I don't rely on him for my news, even though he was the one who broke the stories about Lieberman being eaten by a bear, and Clark winning New Mexico and declaring war on Mexico with the NM National Guard..... I still depend on others for the majority of my news.

Since I work as a webmaster for a newspaper, asking where I get my news would be like asking a fish where he gets his water.

Let's see - constant Associated Press feeds, regular checks on our competitors, as well as RSS feeds of the other major papers, and news alerts from almost all of them.

But I still depend on The Daily Show to put the daily news in perspective. Half the time when I see a major news story my first thought is "Oh, no, what are they going to do with this?"
