I need to tell you a little bit about my friend Mark. We're in the music ed departement together at Portland State and we met at the beginning of this year because we're in at least 3 classes a day. We've suffered through percussion tech, instrumental conducting, music theory, and being beginning clarinetists together. (If you can survive the clarinet thing, you're friends forever!)

Anyway, I love Mark to death because he's really funny, works really hard, laughs a lot with me and staggers into our 9 o'clock classes with his cup of Seattle's Best Coffee every morning. He's also really gentlemanly and nice to my mom (who is taking some classes with us too.) I love him because he's proof that *I* can't judge a book by it's cover. On the outside we're two of the most unlikely friends. But all I have to say about that NOW is "Meh."

Anyway, the whole point is to let you know that Mark belongs to one of the 50 gazillion indie punk bands on the West Coast. [Smile] They're actually doing a tour of the Coast this summer and they're really excited about it. I wanted to link to their website and also to their mp3 page so you can listen to them a bit. "Decorate your Pavement" is the best of those two songs I think. (They'll have all the dates of their summer tour up soon.)

I guess the reason that I'm proud of him is that he manages to work with a group like this as well as continue his education. I think it's really great that he sits next to me in conducting and sings instrumental parts of a Haydn symphony and then goes into the studio in the evening to work on their album. He wants to be a high school band/jazz band conductor. [Smile]

So, anyway, now I've done my duty and have spread the news of my friend and promoted his band to my online family.

Hey, I like their sound. They remind me of The Ataris somewhat.

Do you know if they have more shows planned? I'd go see them if they end up in Eugene sometime.

Wow, that's really great! [Big Grin] If they ever swing down to SoCal, I will totally be there!

*high fives Beren again*

Thanks! I talked to Mark today and he says if their MP3 page gets another 400 hits or so, they'll be bumped up to the front page of "Pure Volume" (the stream site). So keep listening.

[Cool]

I played the mp3 to a couple of people at a party today, it was a hit! I hope they get on the front page. [Smile]

You rock. [Smile] I'm glad they liked it. I'll keep you posted on their gigs around So Cal this summer.

There's a new song on Pure Volume if you've already listened to the first two.

You can also go to their website and sign up for the mailing list to be notified when their concerts are, etc.

Good bump!! [Smile]

I usually despise emo punk, but these guys are really pretty good. Especially "I'll play deaf you play dumb". Great song... THEY should be on MTV instead of the crap that channel usually plays...
